Are the Orlando Magic Ready to Trade Dwight Howard?

Depending on which media outlet’s so-called “sources” you want to believe, the Magic may or may not be seriously thinking that it’s time to trade superstar center Dwight Howard. From SheridanHoops and the Orlando Sentinel: “The source said that when Magic team president traveled to Michigan last weekend to speak in person with owner Rich DeVos, the conclusion was reached that not only was it time for Stan Van Gundy and Otis Smith to go, but Howard, too. That means the Magic will be proactive in soliciting deals once next week’s draft lottery results are in, clearing up the lay of the land in terms of which teams can offer the most value in return.’ […] ‘Magic CEO Alex Martins said on Thursday that he expects to begin interviewing candidates next week. Time is of the essence, because the Magic’s new head of basketball operations will spearhead the search for a new head coach and because the NBA draft looms on June 28. The new hire also will try to sell Dwight Howard on a long-term vision for the team and will attempt to secure a definitive answer from Howard on whether he will sign a contract extension. Two sources familiar with the Magic’s thinking said a report Thursday by the website Sheridanhoops.com that the team has decided to trade Howard is not true. However, Martins already has stated publicly that the franchise will not go into the 2012-13 season with uncertainty about Howard’s future, meaning that the team will trade Howard if he doesn’t sign an extension or provides no clarity on his plans this offseason. Rumors continue to swirl that Howard wants to be traded — that he cannot be swayed to stay long-term by any new hire the Magic make.”

Lakers Get: Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Jeremy Lin
Magic Get: Andrew Bynum, Amare Stoudemire, Metta World Peace

Make It Happen Walsh (and Buss, and Devos family)

Please, nobody comment on this story… Do more productive things with your life. I know that I am contradicting myself by wasting time typing this comment. At least it was an attempt at a warning to sway you from another pointless Dwight Howard story.

D12 is as lame as it gets trade the bum

  • coggie13

Man, I find Bynum to be a more skillful player than Howard, not necesarily better at the moment but in 5 or so years when its fathertime I can see Bynum still being able to drop 20ppg and howard really struggling as he hasn’t quite learnt how to play under the hoop yet. I may be wrong but only time will tell. Personally I would keep Bynum.. Oh and don’t mention kobe in trades because he hs a no trade clause.

  • momoney

whoever would trade howard for bynum is a fool, even if you are desprite

  • Mack

Howard for Bynum – it’s going down people. The Magic don’t want to get LeBron’d (at least I hope they don’t) so it makes perfect sense to try and trade him if he doesn’t want to stay. Regardless of what he’s said or done in the past they need to make a move ASAP to salvage what they can of this mess.

As a magic fan I am so sick of dwight, time to trade him to the worst team to get the #1 pick and screw howard at the same time. even if anthony davis is unproven, its probably the best option for the future, cause im sure youd also get other peices with him. SVG was the best coach the magic ever had and didnt deserve this. i just dont see how you can upgrade from him. if dwight walks, even phil jackson wouldnt be able to win with what wed have left. i was a huge dwight fan before last season, but now i cant stand him. if he cant carry the team to a championship on his own, then hes not worth all the drama. i think its sad when players can fire coaches.
