JR Smith Arrested in Miami Due to License, Then Released

New York Knicks guard JR Smith was booked and released this morning in Miami, due to a non-valid driver’s license. Per the AP: “Sgt. Bobby Hernandez says 26-year-old J.R. Smith was stopped Thursday night on Washington Avenue in South Beach. A routine search revealed the bench warrant and he was arrested. Details were not immediately available on what led police to stop Smith around 8:30 p.m. Hernandez says Smith was taken to the Miami-Dade County jail, where officials say he bonded out early Friday.”

He was down there to express his desire to play for the Heat. Nice cover up story though.

At least he didn’t blow a stop sign, get t-boned from the side, and kill his best friend…..this time.

    ^your criteria is pretty low

  • ChipS

He wasn’t driving. He was inside a “business” and police recognized him.

wtv not a big thing considered to what hes done.
he should just improve his outlook on the game, and make the right choices. he results to much to the pull up or spot up shooting. though, i must say he has impecabble and effortless form. if he were to attack the paint and dish more often, he will be much more than a 6th man. i think hes a kobe but a raw version of him, no consistency but trigger free.

Cover up story eh? Coverups don’t make the news.

  • LA Huey

That’s what I heard too, ChipS.
If that’s the case, WTF did they need him to produce ID for? We’ll wait and see if more details arise but it seems like Miami PD was in the mood for harassment.

  • ChipS

co-sign LA Huey. This does nothing but support all the things I read about Miami PD this week. Gotta say, JR had the “troll face” in his mugshot lol.

All you need to say is “Officer, am I being detained or am I free to go?” If you don’t have a warrant out and you’re not a person of interest in a particular crime, they have no right to ask for your ID or search you. They need to have reasonable suspicion to stop you in the first place or you can get your charge thrown out in court for a procedural violation. JR just needs less tattoos and attitude to not spend a night in jail…

    Good old J.R.

  • LA Huey

Horsey, JR “don’t know his rights so they don’t need a warrant for that”. He got 99 tattoos but his 4th amendments rights aint one.

  • Mack

The Knicks need to TRADE JR SMITH NOW! I’m not saying that because of the arrest in Miami, but you don’t win games with him in the line-up, simple as that. He shoots threes like Antoine Walker (that’s not a compliment) and plays defense maybe 50% of the time.

oh come on guys, whatever. no drugs, no bad behaviour, no scandle or incident at all. that was just a lil adversity not even worth a headline

Horsey: Hiibel v. Sixth Judicial District Court of Nevada. You gotta show your ID. Stop with the fake lawyer nonsense.
