Lance Stephenson Apologizes for Choking Taunt at LeBron James

In the second half of the Pacers-Heat game Thursday night, Lance Stephenson flashed a “choke” gesture in LeBron James’ direction following a missed free throw. Then Saturday afternoon, the inevitable occurred: the Pacers guard apologized for his actions, admitting it was disrespectful. The Miami Sun-Sentinel has the report: “Lance who? That was LeBron James’ response Saturday when asked about seldom-used Indiana Pacers guard Lance Stephenson giving him the ‘choke’ sign after James missed a third-quarter free throw during the Miami Heat’s 94-75 Thursday loss at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Even with the video of Stephenson crossing his hands over his neck having gone viral, James insisted at Saturday’s practice he had not seen or even heard about the display on the Pacers bench. ‘What happened?’ he said in response to the question about the action, which came in the wake of his missed free throw following a technical foul on Pacers forward Danny Granger. ‘Nah, I didn’t see that.’… ‘I’m not…I’ve been there before,’ he said with a pause. I’m not going to stoop down to Lance Stephenson. Lance Stephenson? You guys want me to quote about Lance Stephenson? I’m not even going to give him the time. Knock it off.’ Stephenson knew he had gone to a bad place. ‘I was wrong and disrespectful to my teammates, the Miami Heat and their organization,’ he told NBA.com after the Pacers’ Saturday practice. ‘I’m sorry that I did that. It was very disrespectful.’”

How the hell am I supposed to make my teammates better by talking ’bout Lance Stephenson?!

  • neaorin

LeBron talking about Lance Stephenson would be like Jay-Z talking about Justin Bieber.

  • Top$helf

Not at all cause Beiber has actually accomplished something

  • robb

@neaorin nah man Bieber may suck but he’s got his own public, Lance on the other hand is a nobody, plain and simple.

I really feel bad for Lebron… I really do, as a basketball fan. Seeing him in CLE I thought he was going to be GOAT when started winning. Unfortunately he surrounded himself with the wrong people, who gave him really really bad advice. First was leaving for Miami. Then doing The Decision. The way he and his people handled his exit from the Cavs was a PR disaster. Lebron is the best athlete the world has ever seen in any sport. 6-8, 260, 35inch vertical, amazing ball IQ and skills, the world of sports has never seen anyone like him. He lead his Cavs to the Finals only 23 years old, showing poise, clutch, dominance. His team was a post scorer away from destroying the league (Boozer really bleaped him up, had he stayed they would have crushed it). Had he stayed with the Cavs they would have sorted it out. At this point I cannot root for him. He listened to bad advice, he put himself in a position where everyone knew was coming playing with DWade. Is it his team, is it Ds? Who takes the last shot, who leads the last 5 mins? This things need to be clear as river water for a team to have success. He blew it. I am not sure if I want him to figure it out, as his behaviour is an example to avoid. Taking the easy way out. Teaming up with his biggest rival. Thinking that he was making things easy. Tough luck. But still, such a shame

PS I am not for Cleveland, I don’t even live in the US for that matter… my anger and disappointment only stem from seeing his talent wasted due to bad decisions outside of the court

That response seems like 2 years too late.

It’s too late to ‘paul-a-gize… Its too laaaaate…

Ol’ Lance is smart enough to know about “clout”.
The King has too much clout for a player of Stephenson’s caliber to say or do anything that can be construed as negative.
And now that I’m thinking about it a little, this may be Stephenson’s attempt at getting some attention.
    “Put me in, Coach!!”
    You know.

…and LeBron now has a championship ring, Lance who?!
