Mike Brown Thinks He Could Have Done a Better Coaching Job

Lakers head coach Mike Brown was tough when grading himself on the coaching job he did, during a predictably tumultous first season in Los Angeles. From the LA Times: “I feel like I could’ve done a lot better,’ Brown said. Players loved his enthusiasm and work ethic but tired of his lengthy practices and film sessions. Some soon questioned him. Metta World Peace labeled him as a ‘stats guy.’ Andrew Bynum defiantly shot three-pointers. Pau Gasol wished he had been featured more in the offense. Plenty of players lamented the shuffling rotations. Still, all players gave a generally positive review on Brown’s first year, considering the circumstances. ‘The toughest part is, I’m not using this as an excuse,’ Brown said. ‘We had as much time as everybody else. But it was tough from the standpoint that you didn’t get to practice. We wouldn’t have practiced that much harder because we have an older and veteran team. I still need to be conscious of not running those guys in the ground in the course of the regular season.’ [...] ‘I know there were a lot of things I rushed on that I kind of did on the fly based on the lack of time,’ Brown said. ‘To really give myself a true evaluation would be hard. Based on the circumstances as a staff, I had a great staff and they helped out a lot and we did fairly well. Could we have done better? Yes, we could’ve done a lot better.’”

Yeah he could have done a better job , but the players should have played better at the end of games two and four….those were two games that the Lakers just gave away

    You think??!?!

@Royal…youre taking a team that ran triangle for years and trying to have them run a completely different offense….problem is when you start a new system with new players it throws of rhythms and chemistry. its going to take time. the players were not used to being in the positions they were in. mainly pau. granted at some point i feel if you are a professional, you should be able to adjust to any scenario, but some people just dont have that in them. pau should have been in the post more, not shooting jumpers. he wasnt able to get into any of the games. brown is not a good in game adjustment coach. he is good at developing schemes after watching film, but not while the action is going on. thats why he stands there with his mouth open all the time, cuz hes confused!

I disagree. I watched a lot of Cleveland games, and this is as good as it gets, Lakers fans.

I know he can’t do better, but I think he can set himself up fo rhis team to do better. I think he needs to re-evaluate all he hold dear in basketball. Realize that, yes, defense wins, but offense is also needed. He should assign one of his coaches to be the offensive coordinator. Someone with a little over 1 iota of offensive ingenuity.

Now he has time to make adjustments, hopefully better next season, hopefully

To he is barely an average coach. I mean his offense was stagnant in Cleveland and this year his offense didn’t give any esay shots to Kobe who had to work so hard for his shots. The inside force of Bynum and Gasol was not fully used as well. I’d give him a much better feel for defense but still it’s not enough when you coach a ball club like the Lakers.L

In other news, grass is green, and water is wet. NO DUH YOU COULD’VE DONE BETTER. All 29 coaches who weren’t on the winning squad could’ve done better.

You guys are idiots…for real. Every coach should have had somewhat of a free pass this season, even D’Antoni. The circumstances being what they were, it’s incredibly hard, dare I say nearly impossible for any new coach to be immediately successful. But, you guys just keep putting it on him
