NBA Fines Erik Spoelstra $25K For Criticizing Officiating

After the NBA’s suspensions of Udonis Haslem and Dexter Pittman, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra was quoted saying the NBA “does not have a problem” with Indiana committing hard fouls on LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. Spoelstra went onto accuse the Pacers of more than a dozen hits to the face of Miami’s players—”some of the tomahawk variety”—in the nine games between them this season. The League responded by fining Spoelstra $25,000 on Friday for “critical public comments” about officiating: “The NBA fined Miami coach Erik Spoelstra $25,000 on Friday for “critical public comments” about officiating in the Eastern Conference series with Indiana. Spoelstra made the comments before Miami’s shootaround Thursday in Indianapolis, hours before the Heat beat the Pacers in Game 6 to win the series. Spoelstra was quoted by several media outlets saying the NBA ‘does not have a problem’ with Indiana committing hard fouls on Heat stars LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. Spoelstra told reporters he counted more than 12 instances where Heat players were struck in the face by the Pacers this season.”

Ironic considering the heat benefit from the most BS calls out of any team in the league

Every year when March Madness ends and we are forced to watch the NBA it serves as a great reminder why we all enjoy college basketball so much more. NBA used to stand for No Boys Allowed, now its like if you aren’t whining you aren’t trying. Bunch of spoiled grown children now.

You are in the minority if you enjoy college more with its crap referees and over coaching.

I know the ref’s for the most part don’t have instant replay BUT they do make or not make calls that can cause a team to lose & they sure as hell should have to answer for that…. The best way for the ref’s to deal with a game is to have another ref in on the sidelines watching TV as well as instant replay, if a ref makes a call that is wrong, that extra ref can change it ASAP… Do that & there won’t be any more problems….

PS If a player commits X flagrant fouls he is fined, so should the ref’s. If they make X wrong calls they should be the ones fined…

Spoelstra had it right. Everyone loves to hate on Heat players. Well, if it goes against the Heat, it is fine. Pittman mugged, Pittman sat. Haslam played hard and clean, Haslam sat. If D-Wade or LeBron (or any Heat guys) get up, it’s “no blood, no exposed bones, NO FOUL”. C’mon haters, MAN UP and watch the real game.
