NBA Players React to the Draft Lottery

A tweetcap.

The NBA Draft lottery went down Wednesday night, with the New Orleans Hornets winning the rights to this year’s No. 1 pick. And both during and afterward, several NBAers took to Twitter with their thoughts, many of them centered around a certain conspiracy theory. (We’ll let you figure that one out on your own.) Scroll through the gallery above to check out a variety of reactions to the big event.

DeMarcus Cousins, Kevin Love, Derrick Williams, Ty Lawson, Johnny Flynn, Brandon Jennings… all know whats happening

Tracy Mcgrady signs with the Magic the Raptors get Michael Bradley. The Sixers trade Allen Iverson and get Thaddeus Young. Shaq leaves the Magic and they end up drafting Michael Doleac and Keon Clark. Are you going to tell me the fix was in for the Timberwolves with Kevin Love after Garnett got traded, when everyone said he was going to be a bust? I swear 99% of NBA fans have Apophenia.

  • Love The Game

@Haslem….Hey man you can only give them the pick…Who they choose with that pick is up to them. But I get your point. This lottery still feels a little wrong though.

  • Steps Around Lue

@haslem…what you wrote makes no sense. all those players you mentioned were all bums, except thad young. and no im not just saying that b/c im a sixers fan, but honestly how are you going to consider thad young amongst those players caliber? by the way, love was drafted by the grizzlies and was traded to the wolves for mayo…so thats not even a fix. go take your “apophenia” comment elsewhere.

To be fair, for almost every team there’d be an uproar and a reason to suspect a conspiracy theory if they won; Hornets (owner sale), Bobcats (Michael Jordan connection), Cavaliers (Lebron still/BACK TO BACK?), Sacramento (#1 pick to keep team in Sactown), Portland (do-over after Greg Oden), Nets (Ease transition to Brooklyn), Detroit (make the Pistons an NBA power again/help new owners), Milwaukee (compensate for loss of Bogut), Phoenix (Consolation prize for Nash), Houston (keep the Chinese Rockets fans happy). Doing the lottery live would be nice, but there is something to be said for the format in terms of suspense. Perhaps record the video and release it after the picks are announced?

Um, Steps Around Lue, I think you totally missed the point of Haslem’s comment. Totally.

@omphalos – you left out Toronto (waste on a skinny Euro kid with ‘upside’)

@ Steps around Lue Haslem was trying to dispute the conspiracy claims about the draft by pointing out that busts (except Young) replaced superstars who were traded. Haslem is saying that young talents who come in to replace superstars don’t always live up to their hype, contrary to all the examples about franchises who need help getting rewarded future superstars.

Personally the draft is kind of suspect though, too good to be true.

Has nothing to do with the topic but I want to know if Austin Rivers falls into the 20′s do you think Ainge will take him? Rondo, Avery & Rivers would look really good for the next 10 years.

  • haslem

I don’t think Ainge would hesitate at all to take Rivers in the 20′s but from what I’ve read there is a slim to none chance of him dropping that low.

I love Eric Gordon’s reaction lol

I saw where they said he would fall to 18-22. It’s a strong possibility considering they have the 20&21 pick. They’re saying the Celtics might pick up Fab Melo as well with one of those picks.
