Report: Dwight Howard Still Wants the Orlando Magic to Trade Him

The departures of head coach Stan Van Gundy and GM Otis Smith are reportedly not enough to convince Dwight Howard is the right place for him to continue with his NBA career. He still wants out, per SheridanHoops: “On the day coach Stan Van Gandy and general manager Otis Smith lost their jobs with the Magic, a source who has spoken with Howard recently said the All-Star center desperately wants to be traded prior to the start of next season. And although the Brooklyn Nets are still considered the frontrunner, ‘it is not going to be a one-horse race,’ the source said, listing the Mavericks, Knicks and — to a lesser degree — the Clippers and Lakers as among the destinations that would appeal to Howard. When the news first broke Monday that Van Gundy had been fired and Smith had agreed to leave, the knee-jerk reaction was to assume that Howard had won the power struggle, and the Magic would now empower him to have a say in who the new hires would be — provided he agreed to sign a contract extension and commit to the Magic for the long term. But in fact, the source said, Howard wants out of Orlando more than he ever did before in order to start a new chapter of his career. And it is well-known throughout the league that the Magic do not want to endure another soap opera season like the one they just experienced. Orlando team executives are expected to meet soon with Howard as he recovers from the back surgery he underwent last month in California. If Howard tells them he wants out, they are expected to try to accomodate him and deal him to the highest bidder.”

  • CrossOver

This franchise just put itself back into lottery status. Future #1 overall pick coming right up.

  • Thee SwissArmyKnife

If the Knicks sign this clown I’m down with them I will be offically be picking a new favorite team smh.

Rashard Lewis, Gilbert Arenas, getting back Turkoglu and then trading Bass for Big Baby Davis. GM screwed the pooch on every move. Now he’s got a whiny center with a bad back who can’t shoot from outside 4 feet. Sounds like an easy move to make. See what the Sixers have done with Spencer Hawes this year? You can roll the dice on a cheaper player and do pretty well.

  • Rik Smits Mullet

invent a fake expansion team in siberia. and trade him there.

  • LA Huey

As long as Dwight doesn’t publicly ask for trades or speculate. I’m fine with him. If Orlando doesn’t trade him before the start of the season, blame is on the organization, not Dwight.

  • Ash

If this is true then I’m not suprised he wants to leave. He should of just left last year. This will be intresting offseason.

  • Bt

Lol at d.a – Jordan and mo ‘regular season’/'I only care about my shot attempts’ Williams for Dwight? I don’t think so. Try adding Bledsoe and multiple first rounders while taking on turkoglu and they might take the clippers (half) seriously

  • http://www.slamonline.com Dagger

Yeah . . . probably shouldn’t have fired van Gundy. Duh.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

SMH Dwight. Should’ve just said yes during the trade deadline and got traded. Turrible.

  • FnF

Orlando’s biggest mistake was misusing Gortat, either play him or trade when his value was high. He could have been packaged with Hedo for Monta or sent to Detroit for Prince or Hamilton or simply could have played alongside Dwight. All of the other moves were the best thing they could do at that time. Who on Orlando is worth trading for? Dwight put them in a tough spot by making himself available. What team trades with a team that has an unhappy superstar and NOT get that superstar in return? The Magic should have gotten Monta but if GS wants Dwight why take on salaries, lose your best player, and then not get Dwight? The entire organization is to blame for this ordeal, players and management.

Not that this makes me Nostradamus or anything but, I told y’all this was going to happen the day of the trade deadline. As soon as he signed that extension I said it will be announced he wants to be traded right after the season ends….

  • ClydeSays

Such a mess. Devos really needs to hire a smart GM & then step away from the business.

  • sam j

Trade him to charlotte or whoever wins the lottery for the number one pick and players.
Forget sending him where he wants to go, Orlando just ditches their coach and gm to appease him and he still wants to leave? Screw him, I think they’ve catered to his whims enough already

  • http://slamonline.com Datkid

I’m really annoyed but at the same time this is hilarious to me.

  • shutup

lmao, I thought I wouldnt have to hear about this sh!t till at least a month before preseason.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Sigh. Just gtf off the Magic already. We don’t want you anymore you arrogant, whiny, caustic gasbag. Go and miss free throws somewhere else.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Caboose, the Magic did basically blackmail him into staying. It was announced in the media, that he would ask for a trade as soon as the season ended. Which the Magic had to have known was going to happen. If they didn’t, then well, y’all got bigger things to worry about.

Agree they should have kept Gortat.

  • http://www.google.com/news BETCATS

Not sure if this is true. The source could be false or it could be a front office person loyal to Otis Smith/Van Gundy. Don’t believe everything you read online. Dwight isn’t saying it (and we all know he isnt shy on this subject) so I don’t believe it.

  • havenoclue

IMHO whoever is signing the big fella next year is out of his mind. Mr. Howard is far from the level where he could allow himself to put on such a miserable show we were “lucky” enough to witness this year. I do not think there is a level where an athlete can act this way. You do not like what’s happening on your team? Request a trade – quietly – or settle the differences instead of acting like Zsazsa Gabor.
Whoever acquires him has to go through the cheating girlfriend syndrome: your girl cheated on her ex because of you, and you have to fall asleep every night with the thought: “She wouldn’t do that to me, right?”
    And that back surgery…

  • bike

Well, he’s overdue to say something like this. What about his back surgery…how did that go…should have had his vocal chords removed at same time.

  • Hey-ZEUS

Sports media reaaaally needs to stop writing from “anonymous” sources. If the damn player did not say it publicly, it doesnt mean ish. Also if it is true, these sources really need to check themselves in the mirror, because its both a dirty thing to do, and makes sports seem like media takeout.

  • Hey-ZEUS

Also, we all know that there is only two different places Dwight would play; Disneyland or Disney world :D

  • http://www.piratebay.org bike

oh and I stink of gorilla juice all day. Errday.

  • http://required.com required

they should trade dwight while he’s still healthy. oh wait…

  • anonymous

nowadays sports reporting is the equivalent of tmz gossip because every source is anonymous yet supposedly linked to the particular publuc figure about which the story is written. you almost never hear reports coming directly from the public figure themselves or the sole person who represents the public figure i.e. their manager and/or agent. anonymous sources are not credible. this report means nothing. who knows who this source is? this could be someone outside of dwight`s circle who wants some face time or a total fabrication to get reads or meet a deadline.

  • robb

    shut your mouth Dwight.

  • What

Dwight for Bynum seems fair. They both are no where near as good as they should be despite believing they are the best centers in the league (dream on) and they each have the personality and mentality of a 15 yearold girl. I can not stand these players who think they are bigger than bball. GROW UP AND BALL OUT. rich dumbies.
