    Deservedly so.

  • robb

    Nobody deserved it more.

  • Mike Mihalow

    Agreed.

I can respect this decision. Pop did a hell of a job this year! Congrats to him!

  • http://slamonline.com 1982

    Happy for him.

  • Youngindy21

Frank Vogel deserved It. But whatever.

  • Sarah

Very happy for Coach Pop. And of course he showed a lot of class and gave credit to many other coaches during his speech. Proud day for Spurs fans.

the best part about this is that pop probably couldn’t care less about this award. well deserved though

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

    Agreed.

  • Bt

Still a joke of an award, pop and phil Jackson should have about 10 each instead of the novelty factor the award has currently in that every second head coach who has a talented roster gets one

@ Spit hot fiyah. You are absolutely right and it’s yet another reason why nobody deserves this award more than Pop does. An old timer once told me something along the lines of: “Basketball should be about three things: the court, the game and the players, that’s it.” I like Pops because he has a no nonsense attitude about hoops. Just get on with the job. I like that.

Thibs should have received more votes but I’m happy for Pop. Frank Vogel didn’t deserve it over those two guys. It’s the same with the MVP award. Can’t give the COY award to the best coach each season, can’t give the MVP to the best player in the league each season.

Best coach of all time. Never had a second superstar. Drob was old. Tony and manu are allstars but not superstars. Pop never had mike and scottie, nor shaq and kobe, nor kobe pau bynum odom. Rasho nesterovic. Nothing but wins

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Vinny Del Negro got 3rd place votes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am throwing up.

  • 23

tarzan, as great as pop is(goat imo) having the most coachable set of SUPERSTARS helps. ginobili might not get love from mj or other greats, but ask kobe about manu and that should say it all right there. ask shaq about duncan. parker with a finals mvp. SEVERELY underrated players with the perfect coach. duncan has been getting some love for best power forward ever, but lets be honest. why doesnt anyone add him to the goat conversation? he accomplished EVERYTHING. he was ELITE at BOTH ends of the floor on a nightly basis for about 12 years! dominated straight from the get go. SPURS are the most underrated franchise in all of sports.

Guess this means Thibodeau is gonna win MVP

Nbk I think they meant CP3 instead of Vinny..simple typo

if you are on twitter and are not following @FakeCoachPop, you’re missing out. Like this tweet moments after it was announced he won the COY award: https://twitter.com/#!/FakeCoachPop/status/197415621615562752

  • bike

He won this because nobody rests his players better than Pop. Nobody.

  • ClydeSays

    Congrats Pop. Well deserved.

  • Greg

In a recent Bill Simmons podcast Robert Horry said that Pop is a better coach as he had less talent to work with, doesn’t that mean that Tim Duncan is better that Shaq too? Props most definitely due to Pop for his no bull@£$% approach to the game but lets not get it twisted: If Timmy is your franchise player, you’re set for the next 15 years. No drama, no beef, arrives at camp in shape, unselfish with a capital U, in check ego etc…total package.

  • blakos

LOL at Vinny Del negro getting anything near top 10 votes, sheesh. Hope they lose 1st round, then he should be fired..

  • spurs4life

    Congrats Coach Pop! GO SPURS!!!

  • Holiday

Coach of the Year and the MVP never make sense for who they go too! I mean POP is a great coach, one of best all time. But he has plenty of talent, and they finished first last year as well! I would say Frank Vogel, Doug Collins, or Tyrone Corbin should have gotten it! I mean are any those teams (Indiana, Philadelphia, Utah) where you thought they would be… Especially Utah with no true star, and what Corbin got out of 2 rookies, 2 2nd year guys, and a couple of D leaguers and Journey men!

23, I’m the biggest spurs fan on here, I agree with what you’re saying, but tim has been their only superstar. Holiday, the lockout, roster turnover, and another year were going to cripple the spurs according to a lot of “experts”. Damn I hope spurs win the title, its there to take. I’m glad sjack is back, he should have never left.

  • MookieBlaylock

    Bernie Bickerstaff? hello?

  • http://slamonline.com J Du Bois

Coach of the year should go to Paul Sails he had to choke some sense in to Tryus Thomas … That’s the toughest coaching job all year

  • MikeC.

Stan Van Gundy should be COY. Who else had to deal with their franchise player mailing in the season, selling out his teammates and asking for his coach to be fired? Magic had every reason to fold it up and quit on the season. SVG kept all the non-Dwight players going hard all year. Great job by Stan. If he can’t be COY maybe we can all pitch in and get him a punching bag with Dwight’s face on it.

  • AsadSaleh3

The Sixers started off hot against mediocre competition and fell way off to the 8th seed so no to Doug Collins. They were the 7th seed last season so they had a worse season this season. The Pacers took a step forward so Vogel belonged in the conversation but you can’t give an award like that to a team that didn’t finish in the top 2 in their conferences. Same with the MVP award. Just can’t happen. If it could, Kevin Love and Chris Paul would deserve a lot of votes for MVP behind LeBron and Durant.

Everyone jumps at Timmy D as the reason Pop’s teams have been so good… But hes been coached by Pop his entire NBA career, theres no love the other way?

  • http://hotmail.com GBtha G

It makes sense. The Spurs have been unbelievable winning 10 or more games in a row 3 times.no other team has done it not even once. The Spurs are the silent killers I think most teams will be glad to avoid them.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Frank Vogel deserved it. BOOK IT!!

  • http://www.yahoo.com The Fury

@Seed….no he doesn’t. POP got this. HE BOOKED IT!!
@Tarzan…been a Spurs fan since the Admiral played with Terry Cummings here. You are not alone lol. ;)

  • Rainman

@ Everyone who says Ginobili wasnt a superstar. He wasnt (in his prime) Kobe’s favourite player in the League for no reason. He was a superstar, limited to an all star role for the good of the team. A Great team.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

My all time favorite coach, well deserved. And Tarzan, I’d love to see the Spurs win it all. Easily my second favorite organization (just the epitome of class and intelligence) behind the Magic. Timmy D getting #5? That’d be sweet.

  • RickyRude

He earned it. Great job Pop.

  • L Dribble

@23 – Tim Duncan – the only player in NBA history to be selected both All-NBA and All-Defensive Teams during each of his first 13 seasons.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cheryl

I mentioned previously that it would be a crime if he didn’t get it. No charges need be filed. Congrats, Pop.
