Tyson Chandler: Amar’e Stoudemire ‘Probably Going to Be Out’ With Lacerated Hand

by Marcel Mutoni @marcel_mutoni

Following the Knicks’ second consecutive painful loss in Miami last night, Amar’e Stoudemire briefly lost his mind, and may have doomed New York as a result.

Stoudemire punched the glass case containing a fire extinguisher outside the team locker room, and suffered a severe laceration in his left hand. STAT left Miami with his arm in a sling, and teammate Tyson Chandler guessed that the Knicks would play Game 3 (and possibly longer) without his services.

Per Newsday:

Reporters were prevented by security officials from speaking to Stoudemire as he headed for the team bus. The Knicks said his status would be evaluated upon their return to New York. They are not scheduled to practice Tuesday; Game 3 is Thursday at Madison Square Garden. The team’s locker room was closed to reporters for about 40 minutes after the game — four times longer than usual — and paramedics were seen leaving the room after treating Stoudemire. Both the Knicks and Heat doctors also worked on Stoudemire.

His teammates did not sound optimistic that he will be in uniform Thursday. “We just know right now that he has a laceration and he’s probably going to be out,” Tyson Chandler said. “It’s tough, obviously. Amar’e is a huge part of this team. Without him, it’s going to make it more difficult. We already lost one player [Iman Shumpert]. That’s two players out of the starting lineup. It makes it tougher.” Carmelo Anthony said he did not know much about Stoudemire’s condition, but he shook his head when asked to comment on the latest turn in a postseason already hampered by injuries and illness. “Man, I really don’t know how to put that in words,” he said. “But it’s a tough situation. It seems like it’s always something happening. Snakebit. But it is what it is. We have to move forward.”

Amar’e Stoudemire has struggled against the Heat defense in the first two games, posting mediocre averages of 13.5 points, 6 boards.

Stoudemire’s only postgame comments appeared on his Twitter page, on which he offered an apology to his teammates and fans:

“I am so mad at myself right now, I want to apologize to the fans and my team, not proud of my actions, headed home for a new start … We all have done thing out of anger that we regret. That makes us human. Bad timing on my part. Sorry guys. This [too] shall pass.”

Lets face it, they can’t beat Miami, with or without STAT.

  • http://www.twitter.com/hurstysyd Hursty

    They play better without him.
At least ‘Melo can take 35 shots and go out blazing.
Seriously though, this is one of the dumbest ‘off court’ things I’ve ever heard of, that doesn’t involve anybody else.
It’s easily worse than Boozer cutting his hand in the Bulls pre-season last year. Just…WTF dude.

Like I said b4, Amare was just being a team player. Mike Woodson told him he needs to hit the glass, so he did! Let’s remember Amare never went to college; cut him some slack!

  • Oh Nose

STAT hit the glass hard last night..

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

thanks Dr. Chandler, and yeah blessing in desguise, they always seem to play better when of their top players is missing. not that it matters in this series

  • abaci

Saying that what Amar’e did may of doomed New York is a bit much, they never had a chance.

  • Mas

If STAT was the dude from the XX Dos Equis commercial…the story would have been something like…: When STAT punches a glass case…the glass gets cut…STAT…the stupidest player ever! The Knicks could have pushed to have a top 3 point guard but no…don’t listen to the GM…listen to a dumb “daddy’s little rich boy” owner and go get a averge player in Anthony. Blow up the whole thing insted of going for Deron williams or CP3. We could now have a solid PG-C-PF combo and now we have NADA! Agian and agian. Bring back Donny and FIRE Dolan.
If Knicks fans had stone the would not show up for game 3 until the second quarter of the game. Send a message to ownership. MAke Dolan fire himself. That would be the best basketball move he’d ever make.

If the schedule wasn’t so compressed amare’s hand would have been stronger and would have smashed through the glass no problem. Another injury to blame on the lockout

  • iLL-P

@Mas “…and go get a averge player in Anthony.” Man, we must not be watching the same basketball on TV.

  • crooklyn

Losing iman was a way bigger deal, sorry stat but you give zero. He’s shaping up to be our next steph, mad drama and no wins

  • ctk

Amare got flaws n his game …no argument ..but the fact remains there aint that many bigs n the league better than him …I dont care for the point guard until one wins a title as the best player …Rose is down ..CP3 wont come out the West

  • Sharydhakrya

If this were Lebron and/or the Heat, nobody would ever stop talking about this. But since it’s the media’s beloved Knicks, it’s really not that big of a deal. HE’S GONNA HAVE TO MISS A GAME FOR THIS. It’s so stupid. This team constantly find ways to F*** $hit up (except Jeremy Lin, I think he’s a swell guy). And when I say that, I’m only talking about this Stoudemire/Melo led team. All the BS that people accuse the Heat of doing is a reality with the Knicks.

I love Amar’e. I love the Knicks. Having said that, Amar’e needs to be fined. There is no fine line between passion and stupidity. There is a large gap between the two. Amar’e dived into stupid.

Here’s in interesting story, in 1974 Kareem Abdul Jabar broke his hand punching the basket support during a preseason game, in the same play he scratched his eye and would forever go on to wear goggles.

@ctk Bigs I’d take over Amare Stoudemire:
    Josh Smith
    Al Jefferson

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

Meanwhile two of the Knicks coaching staff suffered concussion after the hardest facepalms in franchise history.

  • vtrobot

    Ha ha, Ugh.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

Cool story, nbk . . . did his hand ricochet off of the basket support and then poke his own eye? I’m trying to picture it LOL

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I think he got fouled and punched the hoop out of frustration. Because of the injury. I just thought the parallel is ironic considering Amar’e has to wear goggles his whole career.

Sad…this reminds me of Shaq playing for the Wizards back in 02. He didn’t get enough touches from MJ, got pissed, and punched a window. Y’all remember? Why CANT y’all remember? What year is this? 2015? EDDIE. SQUAD UP.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

if only there were a way to help this guy

  • http://wikipedia.org Eddie1

It gonna be a Celtics Lakers rematch. Y’all heard it here first as I am the prophet of the NBA. I saw all it became in 2017, the year the NBA changes to the EBA (Earth Basketball Assocation). In 2047, it changes to GBA (galactic basketball assocation), but that’s a different story. For now, let’s enjoy the last Celtics Lakers finals EVER. Predicted by me. From me. Eddie. SQUAD UP.

NBK i see your were on true hoops, but he joins the list with kevin brown

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Naw, I heard that on the Dan Patrick Show. Which makes sense that it showed up on ESPN, they take a lot of stuff from them. And DP makes fun of them regularly.

  • ClydeSays

I thought the Rondo bump was dumb, but this incident makes that seem level-headed…

  • ctk

@france …thats not many ..on bout half of them they flaws is just as bad as Amares

  • Waggle

Oh Eddie, how I’ve missed you.
