Eric Gordon Still Planning on Becoming a Free Agent

The New Orleans Hornets may have landed the top pick in this year’s NBA Draft, but that good fortune won’t dissuade Eric Gordon from looking for a big payday this summer. Per Yahoo! Sports: “Eric Gordon was surprised to hear the New Orleans Hornets won the top pick in the NBA’s draft lottery. Hornets coach Monty Williams and assistant general manager Tim Connelly called Gordon to talk to him about the windfall that will bring Kentucky forward Anthony Davis to New Orleans. But despite the news, Gordon still plans on exploring his options in free agency. ‘Wherever I end up will be a good situation or I’m going to make it a good situation,’ Gordon said. Gordon made $3.1 million in the final year of his contract and will be a restricted free agent this summer. He turned down in January a four-year contract that would have paid him close to $50 million, league sources said. He averaged 20.6 points and 3.4 assists in just nine games last season after being slowed by a right knee injury that required surgery. Gordon said his knee is ‘good’ now. New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson agreed last month to buy the Hornets. Gordon has met Benson, but they have not had any contract negotiations.”

  • CubicleWorker

    I thought he’s a restricted free agent, NO will match w.e he’s offered…

  • greg

he can sign a qualifying offer and become an UFA next year like ben gordon did

    Hope he signs with clippers

  • Ldub

Never really understood why teams sign a player that doesnt want to stay there. I understand you want his talents there, but can a player really give his ALL every day if he doesnt want to be there? I know personally, being placed in a situation I dont want to be in, would be difficult. Would also give the ability to make swift excuses for failures.

i seen gordon play in high school glad hes getting some league buzz

  • Patrick

Can he still resign with Hornets if he wants? I think he can, don’t see why wouldn’t be able to…if he decides he wants to stay…otherwise i think Chicago BUlls should sign him.

Teams won’t pay him much money knowing he’s injury prone.

  • LA Huey

Ldub, Bird rights are a great bargaining/trade chip.
Bulls are going to sign him with what cap space? If he doesn’t return to New Orleans, I think he’ll do a sign and trade with the Pacers.

Either way EG is gonna get paid. Hope that knees 100%.

This n*gga is a DIVA.! He’s tryna act like hes running sh*t but he can’t even keep his WACK ass knees healthy. Smh, divas these days

  • LP

Sometimes, i don’t think you guys understand two terms: “RESTRICTED FREE AGENT” and “SALARY CAP”…he can’t just go to the Bulls, he clearly wants at least $11M a year…

  • LA Huey

Jzakoni is a CORNBALL! He’s acting like he’s Debo but he aint pulling this tough guy act in real life. smh, internet gangsters these days…

  • bike

    He turned down a 4 year/50 mill. contract…idiot.

  • chris

Pacers, bulls, or back to new orleans. Portland will throw some big money at him tho, but he’s either going back to the midwest or new orleans matches his offer.

  • PMAR

Its not that he has declined the offer yet, its just that he hasnt accepted it. the man wants to keep his options open. cant blame him.

  • http://slamonline.com Datkid

smh if he wasn’t so injury prone he would’ve been an all-star. he’s probably the best young 2 guard in the game today.

All I care about is that I stink of gorilla juice all muthafckin day. Errday.

  • Brad09

good point LDub i never understood that either. Teams that match these offers when the player really wants to be somewhere else are asking for a dramatic situation.

  • Brad09

gordon will get a better deal than 4 years 50 million, the bulls would have to give up deng in a sign and trade, no one wants boozer and i dont think the bulls would trade noah. So it could be possible for gordon to land in chicago

  • LA Huey

If I were New Orleans, I’d rather let Gordon walk then take on Deng’s salary.

  • ai come back

lol if portland throws money at him theyre gettin broy again
