Karl Malone Would Start a Team With Scottie Pippen Instead of Michael Jordan

Various members of the legendary Dream Team were doing promotional work with various media outlets yesterday, as they hyped up the documentary that aired last night. Karl Malone created the biggest stir, by claiming that if he had a time machine (and owned an NBA team), his first pick would be Scottie Pippen instead of Michael Jordan. From the Dan Patrick Show (via CSN Chicago): “Malone made a surprising choice when asked which member of the Dream Team — other than longtime Utah Jazz teammate John Stockton — he would have started a team with that included himself. ‘I would have to start my team with Scottie Pippen,’ he said. ‘This is why I would take Scottie: Do you remember the time that Michael retired? I watched Scottie Pippen when the Chicago Bulls weren’t really good and Scottie led that team in every statistical category, and I just remembered that. Plus, he’s a guy who could care less about scoring. He wants to stop the best player on the other team. That would have been pretty cool, to see Scottie guarding Michael.’”

Ryne got right back to me (much appreciated) – he said they are working hard to fix the issue. So as long as I’m being communicated with and the problem is in the process of being fixed, i’ll remain patient. it’s just been a bit frustrating the last few days. and it’s not even that i have a troll, it’s that my troll is now trying to use my name (for whatever reason) to have a real basketball discussion. sounds petty, but, i earned my reputation around here bruh, good or bad, i would like to be treated the way i’m treated for the things i actually say.

Teddy, you on Twitter? Or you just thinking about joining the fray?

  • nick

Yahoo has this bullsh*t story on their front page. Unreal how pathetic and transparent the media industry has become. Equally as disgraceful is the retard masses who eat it up blindly. What a joke.

  • Sollywood

Sounds to me like the Mailman is bitter about his package being RETURNED TO SENDER in the finals, twice!

  • freezy

Jordan carried the bulls in the 98 finals pretty much by himself while scottie had a bad back

Nbk, I got the same problem as you. I’m tempted to just leave till the summer is over. Wouldn’t a log in system solve everything?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

yes it would. Ryne said they are working on it, and I trust him. He’s never lied to me in the past. And he’s not who told me they were fixing it 5 years ago.

The Onion should do a report on this…
(Old deep voiced strange accented white dude voice)
“Trolls are attacking from all corners on our very own SLAM web page.”
“Web-Developers are looking for a way to get rid of them once and for all, but attempts have been rendered unsuccessful for the last 5 years.”
“Some long-time ‘SLAMmers’ are threatening to move themselves and their opinions away forever.”
    “Will these trolls be banished?”
“If not, will society on SLAM go on as usual?”
“Will there be a new ‘spanny’?”
“Questions remain, one thing is for sure, these trolls have found themselves a bridge to live under, and they aren’t going to stop ‘trolling’ till they get what they want… And that’s your attention…”
You won trolls. 1-0, you guys. Congrats.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

We won? Somebody put on a queen CD

  • http://facebook.com/tronjohnson Chief

What a tool, yeah and I’d take Messier over Gretzky…what a moron. You just want to be able to get away with grown men in short shorts in your squad Malone.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Question nbk, how would we be sure that we get to register our own names first before the trolls do? Like, what if your impostor registers the name “nbk” before you get a chance? There’s gotta be some way to blockade that…

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

I don’t know the logistics of how they are going to solve the problem. But if nbk gets taken I ain’t gonna be too stressed. If you want my reputation THAT bad, take it. You won’t fool people for long.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Haha fair enough. I guess my rep on a basketball site isn’t that valuable (especially since I’m not an “elite” commenter). If Slam can just get something put together, it’d make things so much better. What’s frustrating is that my troll does occasionally make grammatically correct statements. Your troll is rather…easy to spot.

  • http://blackamericaweb.com Caboose

Wah wah wah. Mama, I want milk. My troll this my troll that, I want a troll. Wtf are trolls status symbols? You prostitutes are amazing. This jackarse thinks he made it as a commenter if he gets a troll. How about u get a girlfriend? Now if you’ll excuse me, the great Dev0, I have some poon to get into.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Well I hope real nbk and real caboose are happy with themselves. You interupted fake caboose’s poon!

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

I’m all broken up about it

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

You should be. The man just wanted to watch some POON. Is that too much to ask.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    It’s DevO…talk about a cry for attention.

    Lmao…mama, i want milk

  • Kobester

Didn’t Barkley pick Toney Andrews over MJ on his team back in the days as well? MJ is the greatest but that doesn’t mean he can co-exist with anybody on a championship team. Do you really think MJ and Dominique Wilkins on one team can win 6 rings?

  • http://blackamericaweb.com Caboose

Bike has had a troll since forever. Where is his sympathy? Or are the pity parties only for the two SLAMers with delusions of grandeur?

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Two other teams picked players other than MJ…. Ewing, Bowie… look how that fared….

  • Chris S.

@JTaylor21: hard to be ball dominant in the triangle?? Kobe says hello! As a matter of fact, Jordan always demanded a high number of shots, and this did not change with the introduction of the triangle. He was still a gunner. Also; Jordan’s game changed after his first retirement, but not for the better. More jumpshots and fadeaways made him less effective than he was at his peak. His improved post game did not compensate for the decline of athleticism.

Back to topic, if you think about it, it is not crazy what Malone is saying. Pippen is one of the best SF of all time, and his greatest strenght was making everyone else better. His 93-94 campaign is the ultimate proof of this. How else do you explain that the world’s greatest basketball player quits on your team just before the season starts (the Bulls were upset that Jordan never gave them a change to make the necessary adjustments), but your team does not miss a beat, and nearly makes it back to the Finals?

I also remember an interview with John Stockton after the Finals in 97, where he was asked what was the most difficult aspect about facing the Bulls. Stockton answered: “Scottie Pippen. He was in the way.. a lot”.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Delusions of grandeur? And how exactly did I convey that?

  • TheWhiteMarkPrice

@Dacre, Hakeem the dream was no.1 in Jordan draft class.

  • http://slamonline.com Mars

Still bitter after all these years. LMAO. Funny stuff. Pip is a legit pick tho. MJ must be cracking up. Like damn, Karl probably hates the number 23, and Byron Russell is STILL on his SL.

  • http://www.starting5.com.au NM30

And if I had to pick a team, malones country ass wouldn’t be on it

  • JoshGaloff

what the damn hell. two thirds of the people posting these dumbass comments need to learn how to read first. In the interview he is asked which other player he’d place next to him and John Stockton already on the team.
