Report: Hornets To Match Any Offer For Eric Gordon

All reports indicate that the Hornets want to build its core around Anthony Davis, the 10th pick in the Draft and Eric Gordon. The Times Picayune reports that the team will likely match any offer sheet for its restricted free agent, including a max deal (New Orleans certainly has bread enough to do so): “All indications point toward the Hornets making a concerted effort to re-sign their restricted free agent, shooting guard Eric Gordon. New Orleans appears ready to match any offer Gordon might get on the open market, even if means extending him a maximum-money contract of five years worth $80 million, league sources said.”

that trade gave them lots of flexibilty. only worry about gordon is if he can hold up

I like the Hornets, they have a good team so far with Jarrett Jack, Eric Gordon and Anthony Davis. New OKC in few years

  • jose

i don’t think anyone in the league would be willing to hand him a max deal so it’s cool. i like the hornets saying this, hopefully they keep him and start building something good there

Who do y’all think they’ll pick with #10? Damian Lillard if he’s there, but after that? Rivers? Marshall?

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

Don’t think Lillard will be around at No. 10, but he’d be perfect for this team.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Nah, I don’t think there’s any chance he’s around at 10. Blazers could reach for him at 6 (they LOVE him apparently), plus the Warriors and Raptors would both love to have him.

Screw the Hornets I’d be a Heat fan before I’m a Hornet fan. The NBA set all this up.

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

didn’t the team just get sold?

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Spit hot, yeah, it sold for about $60 million above market value and New Orleans was selected as the site of the 2014 All Star Game 3 weeks after that.

  • Reggie06

Lakers? Make it happen in multi team trade, yo im desprate for my lakers

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

caboose, a lot of teams seem to sell over market value, didn’t the warriors sell for much more than the market value, and they have been sucking for a minute now. as for the all star game, a lot of cities are getting robbed for sure. But since the nba doesn’t own the franchise anymore, why would they want to promote a market like NO over other bigger markets?

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Very true Spit Hot, it was just very….convenient timing. That’s all. Same with the Lottery.

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

    ^no doubt

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

@Spit because that was probably the bait they gave to help the Hornets get sold.

  • Raseven

The nba is so blatantly sheisty right now this whole hornets mess is disgraceful at least okc did it honest they think davis is a franchise saver i see a healthy Marcus camby in his game

  • yc

    agreed allabove sly stern

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Sorry but EGordon is not good enough to be a go-to player on a playoff contending team.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

He’d be a fantastic second option, JT. But, if the Hornets get -incredibly- lucky, and their lineup ends up looking like Lillard, Gordon, Aminu, Davis, Kaman with Jack, Lewis, and Landry off the bench, they could find themselves contending for an 8th seed. Just maybe.

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

    @redd good theory, very possible

  • http://blackamericaweb.com Caboose

Not a good theory. Highly improbable. Carry on weirdos.

80 million? Wow, if Gordon can stay healthy, then he’s worth it. With the addition of Davis, N.O. has a bright future. Who do you pick at 10 though? I would go for a big, Maybe Tyler Zeller, Myers Lenoard, or Arnette Moultrie, maybe even Terrence Jones.

  • Shem

They better match any offer that comes in, otherwwise all of the bargaining that occured during the CP3 trade where LAC refused to give up both Minnis pick and EGordon ends up being useless.

  • Basketball iQ

KrisKaman is a ufa… hes not coming back. They’ll draft big with the ten spot too. they have enough pg’s and 2′s. they lack size & skill at the 5. Gordon wants to win now or he doesnt like this franchise or something because he still will pursue other teams, next year as a ufa. Hes right to do so, he just left the Clips, this team will be the Clips of old next year… why stick around for “we’re re-building?”

  • 2Quick

They need a PG/Kendall Marshall if he’s avaliable and Anthony Davis

  • Youngindy21

Some other team should offer him 5 years 80 million just so that New Orleans is forced to pay him maximum money. It’s best not to say anything so a team will not do that and you may not have to give him max money. New Orleans is stupid for letting this be known.

  • floe

i think the only reason they can do that is because no one is going to mess around with stern. if anything, i think this just discourages the rest of the league from making any legitimate offers to eric this summer.

  • http://slamonline.com Datkid

JT EG isn’t NOW. but he will be very soon I think. If he can stay healthy he’ll be a problem.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

    Stern’s a b***h & lol @Caboose. WHATEVER MAN, it’s true!

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

^not definetly true, but not highly improbable either. @caboose if the nba doesn’t own the team, or doesn’t plan to own it in the near future, why give the asg to a market like NO that just had an all star game? if the nba wanted to make more money on the asg they would pronbably benefit from having it in a bigger market

  • cbb_fanatic

Yes!!! EG is going NOWHERE. It’s only right. Stay and let them build around you. Train with Davis and Lilliard. They’ll need it.There’s been a lot of concern lately about Lilliard not playing against any Top 25 teams last season and some scouts are starting to doubt the authenticity of his stats because of that. I know it’s selfish, but I kind of hope that’s true. I want other teams to pass him up so NO can get him. But in the most likely event that he’s not there, NO should grab JLamb, Terrence Ross, or another big. No Rivers. I get depressed just thinking about that possibility. We need team players. It can be a triple combo: Davis-Lilliard-Gordon can be the new Durant-Westbrook-Harden.

    ……And they should.

  • RunNGun

    C’mon Dolan… 4years/50 million.
