Scott Brooks Defends Russell Westbrook’s Fashion Choices

OKC Thunder guard Russell Westbrook has been the butt of jokes throughout the postseason due to his questionable attire to press conferences, but his coach thinks Russell has the right (and look) to wear whatever the hell he wants. From the Oklahoman: “Russell can wear anything,’ Brooks said. ‘He’s great looking, he has an incredible body, a great smile. Anything, he’s going to look good. I have to dress up nice to look decent.’ Westbrook and Kevin Durant have drawn attention for their wardrobe during the playoffs, most notably Westbrook’s fishing lure shirt and red glasses without lenses. ‘As long as they keep playing the way they’re playing, I don’t care what they wear,’ he said. ‘I don’t care if they wear glasses with no lenses in it, I will always wear mine with a lens.’”

    Cool story bro

  • Jake

Should have said no homo at the end.

  • BWill22

He probably didn’t have to say no homo or pause because he’s not 12 years old and comfortable with his own sexuality.

“…has an incredible body…” i can agree with everything he said but idc if the man is %2 body fat i would never say he has an incredible body. maybe stong, maybe muscular, maybe fit, but incredible is something i would say about katy perry or scarlett J.

Wearing glasses without lenses is a symptom of heuristic personality disorder.

I’m sorry but that is gay. Everything he said was cool except ‘incredible body’ and handsome would’ve worked too. That was just..Bosh will be signing with the Thunder now.

Let’s just be open minded… They are young and of course they want attention no hate, I’m interested how they playing not what they are wearing. Coach S can say whatever he wants he’s grown and knows what he’s saying, plus he’s a really nice guy.

What’s with the “gay” comments? Pretty much any of the guys who work out like Westbrook will have a great body, and Scott Brooks is manly enough to speak his mind at an on-the-spot interview. To each his/her own about someone’s handsomeness. Maybe he sees the babes flocking to Westbrook.

Lovin’ his clothes and glasses too. Westbrook is fun loving enough to still show the kid in himself and then play in a real man’s game. BTW, D Wade’s glasses have no lenses either. Did you like when Wade was rockin’ the red pants?

What I find funny about the whole “pause/thats gay” thing is the double standard that goes with it. You can say another man is fat and sloppy, or ugly as hell, but the minute you say a dude is good looking or in shape, you’re gay. Aren’t you critiquing another mans physical appearance in both instances?

Shh be quiet dfrance you’re not supposed to make sense.

Westbrook’s outfits are pretty cool, and he can actually pull them off. He looks like a member of the Native Tongues.

i’ve been finding the fashion thing pretty interesting. we see the guys on the court, they may as well be in hard hats. in the post-game room, though, not only are they standing in front of (with the exception of craig sager) a bunch of schlub sportswriters who aren’t interested in fashion, but they’re likely dressed to go out on the town. so you’re reminded that they’re young millionaires who are going to these incredibly expensive restaurants and clubs where everyone looks much like they do, and are dating/married to women who want their husbands to wear fashionable clothes and yeah, sure, show off their quite unbelievable bodies. it’s like a glimpse into a private jet or yacht, really, and only seems funny because you’re doing the equivalent of watching actors in costume who are about to leave the room and go into a completely different kind of play.

Reminds me of one of the Blue comedy tour guys who said that would you rather watch an adult movie featuring a grotesquely obese dude who is dimensionally challenged in that dept. or the obverse? If it matters to you then you cannot judge/condemn others.

Obviously Brooks is just cool with his sexuality and comfortable with his team mates because he is a grown up, but Russell is probably thinking ”CHRIST Coach, Choose Different Words”

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

Bwill22, you meant to say no homo.

  • coppermouth

I don’t give a F U Q if Scott Brooks is gay. They just better beat the Miami Heat. OKC Championship!

  • http://slamonline.com Caboose

Half of the people who comment here on Slam are gay. I see nothing wrong with it.

  • http://slamonline.com Caboose

In fact, just to show you all that orientation has nothing to do with how you judge a person, I’m going to let you in on something. I’m gay. Does that make me less of a person? No. Does that mean I’m less knowledgable about the game? Of course not. Homophobia is so played out. We’re all human.

Scott Brooks just said what a lot of us OKC fans think: Russell is unique, good=looking and his wardrobe shows a fun, young guy. I love that he doesn’t fit the old stuffed, stuck on themselves persons walking in the tunnels all suited up, kobe, etc.
Russell and the Thunder are great!
