Amar’e Stoudemire Says Not Winning a Title Would Be ‘Waste of a Season’

Amar’e Stoudemire has big expectations for his Knicks, and claims that it’s championship or bust for New York. Per Newsday: “Amar’e Stoudemire said the only thing that’s going to cut it next season is a title. ‘Anything less than a championship,’ the power forward said on MSG Thursday during Knicks’ Summer League broadcast from Las Vegas, ‘is a waste of a season.’ Stoudemire, looking leaner, said he’s down to 245 pounds and has been training two times a day since May. He said he’s strong, healthy and ready to go, and is thrilled with the trade for Raymond Felton. The two worked well in their short time together before Felton was dealt to Denver as part of the Carmelo Anthony trade. ‘Awesome, awesome acquisition with Raymond,’ Stoudemire said. ‘He’s a phenomenal player. He’s one of those guys you know is going to bring his ‘A’ game. Hes going to play extremely hard on both ends of the court and hes ready to win.’”

your team’s self-esteem has never been a problem if youre a knicks fan lol

  • RunNGun

Are you Felton kidding me? LMAO Stat should be prepared for more failing seasons with Melo in the front court.

  • markorsomething

All the Knick’s players and fans think their soooooo entitled to championship. Honestly, all the sh*t people kept accusing the Heat of is true with the Knicks. F*ck this team.

going to “waste” your career in new york buddy

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/tray-5 T-Ray

And I thought my Lakers and our fans were messed up in the head. You guys barely made the playoffs last year and managed to squeeze out one game. Get in the top 3 in the East first before you start having genuine championship dreams.

    ‘waste of a career’

  • Flame Heart

How many times does Amare use the word “phenomenal” in his interviews? He should be focusing on gaining weight instead of losing it. These NYK posts always make me smile. They’ll be lucky to make it out of the first round yet alone make it to the finals.

Did Amare get traded to the Heat and I just dont know?

THIS MIGHT SHOULD CRAZY BUT I DON’T LIKE AMARES GAME ANYMORE HE TAKES TO MANY JUMPSHOTS I LOVED WHEN HE USED TO DESTROYED THE PAINT OR WHEN HE AVERAGED 35/12 AGANIST TIM DUNCAN

  • Mas

Amare playing with Nash would be like the Amare of old. Vintage Amare if he had NAsh to feed him. We can take Gasol of your hands. Come on!

  • Sparker

i’m pretty sure amare said almost the same thing last year, god love ‘em

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danpowers

yup, but something was wrong with amare during 90% of the season. i dont know if it was just health or also something mental, but judging by what i have heard n seen so far, he should be the old stat by the start of the season. not many ppl outside ny believe in this team n i cant blame anyone. but considering the circumstances under which the knicks suffered during last season, nobody should be suprised if they actually put up a great seasom this time.

They have no chance at winning a title. so this season will inevitably be a waste. Knicks fans who actually buy into this sh*t are sad. Your squad has no chance, adopt realistic expectations, stop believing your over confident players. Their job is to be unrealistic about their abilities, your job is to remain rational. Or semi-rational at least.

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danpowers

their chances might not be high but there is a slight chance, like for almost any team. what kind of fans would we be if we wouldnt believe in our guys?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

logical? — The only chance the Knicks have at winning a title is if the 10 or so teams better then them all are decimated by injuries. – so the Knicks don’t really have a chance at a title. – they do have a chance at homecourt in the 1st round, and only a handful of teams can say that. — Believing they can do that, even though they probably shouldn’t, would be believing in your guys. Believing they can win a title, is like believing you can build a space shuttle from scratch. it “can” happen, but it won’t.

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danpowers

sorry but i disagree on that. talent wise they have a legit shot. the teams struggles came due to system and injury matters with wich they hopefully wont have to suffer from this season (knock on wood)

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

that’s fine that you disagree – the struggles have more to do with James Dolan fitting players together than don’t compliment each other like a drunken sailor playing with legos (like he has been doing for the past decade+). But i applaud your optimism. Biased fan love must be a blissful experience.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

    They shouldn’t suit up then!

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danpowers

well, it wasnt during the entire 2000s. so the last two seasons meant alot of excitement, ups and downs and joy for us. whatever dolan threw out there on the court, it would really suprise me if woodson wont make this group work. as knick fan you aint too concerned about players fitting together. we only fear injuries ^^

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

NBK seems to forget that the word “fan” is short for “fanatic.”
YOu don’t expect logic and reason from a fanatic.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Yeah, Allen with that damn logic again.

  • O

It’s funny how Amare says something and heads start swinging on Knick fans. I’m a hardcore Knicks fan, but this ish from Stat makes me roll my eyes. Dude said “the Knicks are back” which was somewhat true when him, Felton, Gallo, Chandler and D’Antoni were making strides. Then the Melo trade happened. Then he said he was going hunting in South Beach. How’d that turn out, Stat? Then the dude responded to a fan with a little constructive criticism by saying, “I ain’t got to do nothing, f*g!” Now this? Stat, the Knicks aren’t even COMPETING for the Atlantic Division unless you and Melo learn how to A. Play DEFENSE. B. PASS THE BALL. And C. Stop being overconfident and learn some humility. I can’t wait till 2015 when EVERYONE’S contracts come off the books and we can start over…

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

NY best be getting in line behind:
    MIAMI
    BOS
    CHI
    LAL
    OKL
    SAS

THEN they can jockey for position with the Grizz, Clips, Indy, Nets and Wolves.

    Sorry NY.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

    I’m James again??

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danpowers

@nbk: i am aware of what happened in ny since melo arrived and i dont actually believe that we are the team to beat. i think i repeated myself many times here when i say that i think that we will suprise many people this year, but that not much will change. we finished the season 18-6 under dificult circumstances. with things going better (full training camp, no heavy injury yet except shump, etc) it shouldnt be too tough to keep that pace up or even improve it. i only read rumors about felton losing weight but its obvious that melo is in the shape of his life and that stat is healthy again with a full training camp to find a system that works. thats many reasons for knicks fans that the chemistry problems of last season shouldnt repeat. untill shump repeats were lacking depth at the 2-guard position, but things could be worse ^^

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

so you think the Knicks are going to win 75% of their games or even improve on that? Are you drunk? That means you think the Knicks will win 61+ games next season. If you really believe that then you are going to be severely disappointed – or in denial – when the season ends. The Knicks will be very lucky to win 50 games.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Redd

@Dan it doesn’t take an idiot to know a 7th seed Knicks team is not the team to beat…lol nobody thinks that. You have a Superstar & an repeating All Star…if you guys do well it’s not a surprise but even then you guys will suck. So if you win, don’t feel special cause u guys have 2 stars & the DPOY. Knick fans are the worst man.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

@nba: maybe i shouldve checked my calculator b4 i made that statement. i dont think its gonna be a 60+ season but definately a 50+ one.
being a 7th seed was the worst case scenario and it can just be better. understand me when i or knicks fans in general are a bit hyped up about the team we got now, maybe it is because all that stuff we had to go through from 2000-stat. the development during the last two seasons went a bit bumpy, but still forward (even though dolans idiocracy). we have nice interior defense and at least the potential to be great on offense when the key guys stay/get healthy.
@redd: well, this is just a matter of taste man. and uhm… yes, this is exactly the reputation of knicks fans in the basketball world – that we are the worst/dont know much about basketball? well, click on my name.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Generally Knicks fans (the ones who, like you – no offense – believe the team is better than it is) ruin it for the ones who are realistic about the team. Which is what Red is talking about. You can believe whatever you want about how good the team is, but the facts remain, they literally are not allowed to add any player to the roster who makes over $3M dollars a year (and only 1 per off-season) for the next 3 years, unless they make trades to acquire such players. They have 0 starting caliber guards on their roster (unless you consider Shumpert a starter, despite his ACL injury and lack of offensive production) – their forwards are the most one sided players in the league (aside from Al Jefferson & Kevin Love) – There is only 2 good defensive players on the roster, Chandler & Shumpert. The team’s offense is reliant on isolations (it’s what all of Woodson’s offenses have ever been reliant on) – for Melo – to think they actually have a chance to win a title or even compete for one, despite these obvious fatal problems with the team is irrational. And frankly, the type of thing that causes Knicks fans opinions in general to be taken as unrealistic, to be polite.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Redd

matter of taste? What are we, Soup chefs? No the reputation being that you guys are obnoxious, dramatic, and say unrealistic crap but I see you however think that you guys are the worst. Lol

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

ok guys, if next season proves you guys right in a way that the knicks win less than 50 and exit in the 1st round due to other reasons but mayor injuries, ill eat my words and spare any knick threat as long as dolan is still the owner of the knicks. if not, ill let you know by referring to exactly this discussion by using the following words “told you so”.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

I didn’t say they would win less than 50 games. I said they will be lucky too. Which how I meant it being, they make it through the season with relatively no injuries and the chemistry actually gels. Best case scenario, Knicks win 54+ games and get a 2 seed. Then lose in the second round to either Boston, Chicago, or Miami. Because in a series, they probably aren’t beating any of them. Maybe Chicago. So best case scenario they get to the Eastern Conference Finals. I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened. They just aren’t winning a title, and likely, not going to make through round 2. That’s what is LIKELY.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Will be lucky to win *more* than 50. – my bad

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    Sorry commenting on my phone

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

so then it does come down to taste here. this is about how much you appreciate the skill sets of the players on the knicks roster. you said that the front court guys are one sided players. i say they are specialized lol. to me this 50-something season and going beyond the second round is very likely. there are so many great teams in league history that didnt win a championship or get to the finals even though having a legit shot at it (93/94 knicks, 95/96 sonics, 01/02 kings, 99/00 blazers). would you call their fans back then “bnoxious, dramatic, and say unrealistic crap” for believing into their teams having a legit shot at the crown as redd just call the knicks fans? at the end it can always only be one team. and its not allways about skills or greatness, sometimes its also just luck as shaq for example once said about the kings or blazers, coz this series couldve gone either way. same for me about the knicks, it feels as if all the crap and obstacles are behind us since woodson took over. thats why i dont think that it is too foolish to believe in this team.

ps: nevermind, i dont look for typos neither but i think we all understand each other anyway

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

Told you so? Again Dan, if the Knicks do good it shouldn’t be seen as an accomplishment with regards to how good they are on paper. I do want to say that you’re surprisingly very respectful and seemingly cool, usually Knick fans go into douchebag tirades so I’ll give you that.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Those teams had legitimate chances to win a title Dan. Your 2012-13 Knicks, don’t.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Redd

The Knicks just don’t have a chance Dan..they do not mesh. You’ve got Gimme Carmelo, Will Punch Extinguishers Amare, and Do These Jeans Make Me Look Fat? Felton. You gave up both Jared & Fields, two guys who would play hard for you every game. You didn’t even least dump JR, instead you grabbed a flashy dunker in James White…thats the Knicks for you.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

nah, i know myself that i am not able to be objective about the knicks because any glimpse of hope after all these years during the 2000s gets me excited like a little kid. i follow the nba since the 90s and i must say that knicks fans as a group are generally expert and passionate compared to many other fan bases. but i also know that the big media attention the team draws due to its city also attrackts alot of bandwagon fans, for example 14 year old pimple faced nerds who would switch to exactly that douche mode you (redd) were just talking about. i am a man, play bball for more than 16 yrs myself n used to be a boxer too, which is the reason why i fell in love with especially the knicks in the early 90s when i discovered basketball (am german). that go ny go ny go hype reached untill there then, while people didnt even know that teams like the kings or nets even exist unless you werent a big nba fan. after seeing all the diferent fan cultures and teams out there, the ny knicks delivered some special energy (yes, even garden games just on tv) untill today. leave out the silly silly silly years between 00-09.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

Knicks arent winning the Chip next year but I think they’ll drastically improve…probably will be third or fourth in standings and almost mae it to the ECF after having to face the HEAT or Celtics…No other team is better than them in the east as of now.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Redd

Lol, fair enough I understand. I’m viewed as quite passionate myself with the Bulls. I get it though, but at this point sad to say Knicks won’t win unless Amare & Melo team up properly & defense becomes a thing. Knicks nor Bulls or anyone in the East will not come out against the Heat. Their biggest flaw was zone D & they knew it..they grabbed Ray & Lewis. My Bulls are lucky in that the players we still have are committed to D, so I’m hopeful we’ll be ok. But Knick players have a issue with sharing+D. Best of luck tho.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

lol thanks but its gonna be tough enough for the bulls to wait untill drose comes back n then we all dont know in what shape he will be in. their great team play of last season will be tough to repeat over so many games in a regular regular season instead of a shortened one, when shooting percentages are going to be higher and offensive systems went to training camp b4.
like rose, same with shumpert on the knicks (tho his impact will be a bit smaller than rose’s impact on his team) who will be a tough loss untill he returns. when stat was healthy in 10-11 his defense was quite ok n i think anthony will also defend better after he lost so much weight and being motivated like he hardly ever was b4. with chandler and woodsons d-drills thats gonna be ok. stupid fan hype or not, they r most likely to gel on offense with true point guards at the helm.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

ps: good luck to ur squad too but we shouldnt get too friendly in here as we are supposed to be rivals and foes based on tradition ;)

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Redd

True long as Felton slims down. The issue in all essence I think is Melo&Amare not willing to share like Wade&Lebron. But I agree with nbk, the East is really heating up, it’s hard for Knicks to win now more than even last year. Training camp or not…teams are really getting serious. Sadly, I dont see any team in the East still threatening the Heat.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

me neither, will be same s***t like the 90s when everyone not caught in the jordan hype (one of the few justified hypes in the nba) was wishing that maybe, could, should, would but in the end the jordan bulls almost allways won it all.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

I swear, I can’t tell who’s worse, Knicks fans, Lakers fans, or Bulls fans. It must be wonderful to live in a world with no salary caps, injuries, or player frustration and just enjoy the “seamless blending” of overrated and overlapping talent. The Knicks won’t win 50 games, I’ll call that right now. They’ll win no more than 3 playoff games, I’ll call that too. Quote me. I’ll put my (little) reputation on the line because I simply do not believe in this mismatched Knicks team.

  • Bill

Funny talk. As long as Melo is the core, Knicks would be lucky just to make it to playoff. This team is a mess with the overpaid stars like melo and Amare.

  • eZ

IMO East next year, barring new trades and injuries, but taking into account current injuries:

    1-2 Seed: MIA/BOS
    3-6 Seed: IND/NYK/BKL/ORL
    6-9 Seed: ATL/CHI/PHI
