Blake Griffin Injures Knee, Anthony Davis Called Back To Las Vegas

UPDATE: Here’s the LA Clippers’ statement regarding Blake Griffin’s knee injury, via the OC Register: “Clippers forward Blake Griffin experienced some left knee discomfort after completing Wednesday’s practice as a member of Team USA in Las Vegas. He will travel to Los Angeles today and will not be available for Team USA’s game Thursday night in Las Vegas versus the Dominican Republic. Upon arrival in Los Angeles, Griffin will undergo an MRI and be examined by the Clippers’ medical staff. On Sunday, he will also be examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic. An announcement concerning their joint conclusion and a further course of action will be made available by the Clippers, as soon as possible after that.”

Blake Griffin, who signed a five-year, $95 million extension earlier this week, twisted his left knee during yesterday’s Team USA scrimmage and is returning to Los Angeles to be examined by team doctors. The injury is to the same knee he injured during the Playoffs. Yahoo! reports that rookie Anthony Davis has been asked to return immediately to Las Vegas for training camp: “Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin hurt his left knee in a Team USA scrimmage Wednesday and is returning to Los Angeles to be examined by team doctors, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Griffin twisted the knee in a scrimmage, a source said. The severity of the injury is unclear. He’s expected to have an MRI, possibly as soon as Thursday. Griffin injured the same knee in Game 5 of the Clippers’ first-round series against the Memphis Grizzlies. USA Basketball officials have asked New Orleans Hornets rookie forward Anthony Davis, one of Team USA’s final cuts last week, to report to training camp. Davis was on his way to Las Vegas on Thursday afternoon after attending a cable TV event in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, sources said.”

Clipper Curse! CP3 and Dwight to join Dallas next summer…
And now you see why NBA owners don’t want their players playing for free.

  • patrick

NIce, this would be awesome if a rookie is on the team

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

sucks, i want to see him dunk on everybody over there except for spain

  • bdogg

this is bad! got a bad feeling about this! i do not see CP3 stay in cliipperland as i feel this injury is more than just a sprained knee! i hope i am wrong..that said the big names are paid, indirectly. USA hoops is nike..bron and kb are nike’s biggest endorsers..you know those to are compensated well! gear, jerseys, and of course usa cw kix! bron and kb for nike in the olympics are like the Kardashians..they whore the product! i do not mind it but it is what it is…i am a buyer!

  • ti-sizzle

is this the same knee that needed surgery in his rookie season??

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

“Dwight, can we still be friends?”
    “No.”
    “Can I call you?”
    “No.”
“Can we at least hang out?”
    “Only naked.”

Hope this injury isnt too serious. I dont know how injury protocol works for Team USA, but if they are calling in a replacement, i’m guessing he’s gonna be out for a bit.

  • pposse

naw, this is the knee he injured in the playoffs this past year

  • cbb_fanatic

Mixed feelings about this one. I really do hope that this injury is nothing too serious that it will jepeordize his upcoming season. No offense to CP3, but the Clippers are just not as fun to watch without Griffin. On a more positive note, I am glad to hear that AD is going to get a second chance to join the team whether or not he plays significant minutes. It’ll be very valuable experience for him and another opportunity to learn more from the bigs because they’ll be willing to teach him and share their knowledge with him if they feel it can help the USA bring home the gold. Kudos to AD, and best wishes to Griffin.

Thought Davis had a bad sprained ankle…this might turn out to be 2012 Team Gimpy.

Blake Griffin injured his knee, trying Melo’s step back back jumper. Griffin’s knee was not used to be relaxed in a position where he set his feet to shoot. CP3 never should have went to clipper land anyway and Griffin will be demanding a trade in 2015.

Surely, NOW with the Unibrow on the 2012 team, they would hammer the 92 team senseless. Think Barkley would get all those easy layups? AD would erase each one. No aerial attacks for MJ. Not on AD’s watch. They would barely break 40 points. For. The. Game.

I guess the ’12 team has one advantage.
Their college player was better than the one in ’92

  • Fresh Boirdee

Davis is a liability, they should have picked up a real legitimate center.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

Another knock on Cousins? j/k lol

  • MeloMan15

If Blake is injured seriously then the Clippers need to move. Seriously, that would just be way too much bad luck for one franchise

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

@niQ I was gonna say the same thing lol. If im DeMarcus Cousins i’m pissed right now

  • O

Clipper curse strikes right after dunn signs his contract?! Chris Paul, get the f*ck outta there!

  • surety

Great to see in hindsight and who knows how Davis’ NBA career will turn out. But at that time, Laettner was thought of as the greatest collegiate player ever and was probably better than Davis is right now.

  • Marc

Blake was the real excitement of this team. Damm it.

  • http://www.nba.com Gman

And then he got an arrow to the kneee.

  • ALD

    yall should calm down

  • rob stewart

    Could AD play tonight?

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

This is why Wade and Ray wanted to get payed to play in the olympics.

  • RIGGS

somewhere, greg monroe is throwing darts at jerry colangelos picture.

  • rob stewart

Wasnt Javelle Magee with team USA

  • LA Huey

Last I heard, McGee is trying to get a Phillipino passport to play for them.

  • http://bogoyme bogoyme

@LA Huey: mcgee is not goin’ filipino. some gov’t officials against it. btw he’s gon’ be a handful for them haha poor short people ain’t got a thing against tougher Asian rivals

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Damn….McGee is philipino? I never knew asians could reach McGee’s stupidity level.

  • Mvpitzki

    Lol @ JTaylor21

  • LA Huey

As far as I know, he’s not. He’s pulling the JR Holden trick.

  • Gusist

Wow, Tyson chandler is going to play like the whole game now, should of brought in Monroe, cousins or hibbert

  • Dingo Rob

One or 2 more injuries that makes a player pull out should shake USA camp a little, I predict Carmelo to be next

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danfields

i bet he twisted his kneews while trying to repeat what melo taught him

  • Bt

He had no business been kn the team anyway, he was basically a fourth string injury replacement as it was Dwight, bosh and aldridge).

  • Mundo

I still don’t understand Davis being there

  • bigA

Hi trolls, you’re so pathetic with your useless comments.
    Be inspired. Be great.

  • barnabusb

    Someone call Greg Monroe, quick!

  • MeloMan15

    @Dingo: Knock on wood man!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

Taj Gibson should’ve been on the team!

  • Donte

He should’ve rested anyway. Cp3 too. Groin injuries don’t just disappear.
They do get paid by sponsors. And owners don’t want them playing at all paid or not.

  • http://www.reverberation.com/tray24 T-Ray

So apparently it’s a meniscus tear

  • str8 from samoa

they dont need blake anyway. how many otha stars r on da team who r betta than dis guy?

  • Justin G

I’m pretty sure Laettner was not regarded as the greatest college player ever. At that time yes. Ever? He was not a better player than Abdul Jabbar or maybe even Walton

  • http://www.fbuckdavidstern.com WTF.DAVIDSTERN

are you serious? am I the only one that thinks this replacement is downright retarded? you would seriously put this weak ass rookie that has 0 games played in the NBA, that so happens to be on the team the crooked ass NBA commissioner David Stern has ownership of. I find this nonsense to be horsecrap. really????!over Josh Smith? Pau Gasol? Aldrige? Stoudemire? Garneet? Boozer? David Lee? Zach Randoplh??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!!!

  • http://Slamonline.com Kevin Durant’s Backpack

He Played great considering he only play 9 or 10 minutes

  • SayWhat!

    @JTaylor21
“Damn….McGee is philipino? I never knew asians could reach McGee’s stupidity level.”

JaVale McGee is not a Filipino. He is an American and a product of an American education system.

  • Brad

These sort of injuries happen to players like Blake because HE AINT EVEN STRETCH DOOOE! DOOOOOOE!

  • http://slamonline.com LLC#12

WTF.DAVIDSTERN, Stern doesn’t own the hornets anymore. Also, Gasol is Spanish, so he couldn’t be on the USA team…..

  • pposse

hey SayWhat dont let the Shock Exchange hear about Javale McGee and his education levels, he might have to add to his book!
