Danny Ainge on Re-Signing Ray Allen: ‘It’s Our No. 1 Priority’

When the Boston Celtics walked off the court in Miami a few weeks ago, there were some who believed that we would never see Boston’s Big Three playing on the same team again. Celtics GM Danny Ainge, however, appears to have other plans. The Celtics have already re-signed Kevin Garnett, and now the Boston Herald is reporting that Ainge is currently putting all his efforts into bringing the NBA’s all-time leading 3-point shooter back to Boston: “Danny Ainge says he’s serious about bringing Ray Allen back for a sixth season with the Celtics, and put his cell phone where his heart was at midnight yesterday, at the moment the guard’s contract expired. ‘We want Ray back, and we’re approaching this as the first thing we have to get done,’ Ainge said yesterday morning. ‘It’s our No. 1 priority.’ The Celtics general manager also understood that Allen, who unlike Kevin Garnett is committed to testing the market, was about to be consumed by a rush of calls. The Celtics, though, came in with the confidence they can pay Allen more than any other team — in this case a potential $12 million, two-year deal that would pay Allen $6 million each season.”

I love this. Another run for the Big 3 is not a bad idea. They made it to the ECF game 7 and they were all banged up pretty badly. Bring Jesus Shuttlesworth back

I think they’re trying to hang on too long…They’re going to need some other pieces to make a title run.

I say give them their shots for the next year or two along with the “new” pieces they already have and just acquired. Bradley, Steez, Green, Bass and this years draft picks.

hopefully boston can sign both ray allen and oj mayo. boston needs some more offensive pop. ray isnt a starter anymore. boston played better with bradley in the lineup last season but ray can be a key contributor off the bench

Obviously.. They don’t have enough money to overpay one of the other SG’s on the market and still remain championship competitive. It’s Ray Allen or Jason Terry.

Jumping to title contenders seems so trendy. I can’t wait for above average players to flock to lottery teams.

    I agree with BostonB
Might as well keep the Big 3 together. With the draft picks(more size&depth) and the returning players they could make another run. Also if Jeff Green resigns he gives them more versatility and can backup PP or slide to the 4 spot.

its crazy how the “old” boston celtics are still very much relevant in what is probably the better conference in basketball..it speaks a lot to just how good a leader KG is and how great of ball players ray allen, pierce and rondo are…no wonder wade james and bosh “colluded” with each other back in 2008 to get on the same team..the same Celtics squad that was tormenting them are still gettin down…one game away from the nba finals..and hell who is to say they would not have beaten the Thunder too?!

true that tpathi1…T-Ray is right about Green and what about Pietris? When healthy he can play some ball
