Greg Stiemsma Signs TWolves Offer Sheet

Restricted free agent Greg Stiemsma is prepared to sign an offer sheet with the Timberwolves, reports ESPN.com. The Celtics are unable to match due to salary-cap constraints and have already found a replacement in Jason Collins: “Restricted free agent center Greg Stiemsma has reached an agreement with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to his agent. Terms were not disclosed, but the Boston Celtics own only the biannual exception ($1.975 million) to match. The Timberwolves’ offer was expected to trump that, meaning Stiemsma is almost certainly bound for Minnesota. Stiemsma received consistent interest from the Timberwolves this summer, meeting with them near the start of free agency and waiting patiently as they sorted out their own cap issues while pursuing front-line players. The Celtics would have three days to match an offer sheet, or they could simply rescind their $1.1 million qualifying offer to allow Stiemsma to sign as an unrestricted free agent.”

Nice pickup for the twolves, he’s no batum but he’s a solid backup that will swat some shots for Rubio to turn into fast breaks ;) this Minni team is one of my favourites so far!

This has been a less than impressive off-season for the Wolves. This team is a joke.

Sportmentary, I disagree entirely. If you want to talk about a bad offseason, talk about the Bulls or the Rockets.

Steamer is a more consistent mid-range shooter on pick and pop plays, a better help shot blocker and gutted thru injuries most of run last season so he’s definitely a more team first player than Darko. And he’s cheaper, win-win for Greg and the Wolves…

The wolves need a winning season more then any team in the league. Good pick up for them.

na stiemsa gets too much hype. He also averages 1 foul per minute.

How can you average 1 foul a minute if you play 14 minutes per game?

  • vtrobot

Those us of in Boston know that this is a nice pick up for the Wolves. Steimsma did a nice job last year. I think KG got into his head. Greg >>>>> Jason Collins and Darko.

how many Centers and Forward do the twolves have now?

  • ClydeSays

Unless he can resolve his ongoing foot injuries, he’s a 10-15 mpg backup. I suspect that’s why Ainge wouldn’t give him the bi-annual exception (1.95mil) He plays with a ton of energy and actually shows up on D. Good pick up for the Wolves if he’s healthy.

I love him because he blocks shots, hustles, rebounds, and scores every now and then. He does have shortcomings… He can’t defend off the pick and roll, fouls way too much, and it has yet to be determined if he can stay healthy for a whole NBA season. He also was getting pushed around by other NBA centers. Not worth the money Boston would have paid. Now that Wilcox is healthy and Fab Melo is in the wings. Collins will now assume the 10 minutes a game, at a third of the price. I’m happy he is making money, but he would have been much better off playing for a contender, with Doc and KG pushing him. Good luck, Steamer.
