Houston Trades Kyle Lowry to Raptors for Pick

A busy day in NBA news keeps getting busier as the Rockets have agreed to trade point guard Kyle Lowry to the Raptors for a ’13 first-round pick according to Adrian Worjnarwoski of Yahoo! Sports. With both Dragic and Lowry suiting up for different teams next season, who’s going to run the point down in Houston?

    RU DUMB??

  • PGGP

Trading what will probably be a late lottery pick in a weak draft for a border line all star PG is a great move, Lowry is now the raptors best player.

good move, lowry contract is good. what is houston doing? have to have more moves planned

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! I’m not going to lie, I like this pick up a LOT more than if we paid $36M for Nash. And to answer the question, Houston will probably Scott Machado to run the point.

  • LA Huey

Houston GM has lost his mind.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

And besides, I hear it’s going to be a protected 1st. But we don’t know protected how far yet.

  • anonymous

good pick up by the raptors. what about calderon?

  • Kyle

Jeremy Lin will be the PG in Houston

  • http://minusthebars.blogspot.com don

Toronto fans should be happier Raptors were able to sign Lowry than if the franchise had signed Steve Nash

  • anonymous

if lin hasnt already agreed to the contract that houston offered him I not why they just got traded both dragic and lowry (2 good pgs) within a 24-hour span. houston must know something that no one else knows

  • anonymous

“I`m not sure why they traded both dragic and lowry”

  • LP

WELL Lowry doesn’t want to be there, so thats why the traded him (excellent trade, went from losing a player to getting a LOTTERY PICK!) ….they didn’t want to pay DRAGIC the money, he was looking for 10 milly/year apparently…they may be going after FELTON… Maybe they should have kept Dragic, but thats the only thing they could have done wrong….

  • Ill Smith

Damn. No Lowry, no Dragic. Bring in Asik. Guess Houston finally got the cue it’s better to be awful than aight.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

First solid decision Colangelo’s made for quite some time…

  • Fresh Boirdee

    They must really want Lin.

  • MattieRog

Kyle Lowry is a DIVA. Thank God I do not have to watch him complain, flop, an lie. Its about time we started rebuiling. I’m glad Morey and Mchale sent him to freeeze his butt off. Have fun Toronto watching your new cry baby. GO ROCKETS.

How’s the bonfire on that Yao Ming jersey, Teddy?

  • Mas

    Good plan B for Toronto.

  • Mas

How about we send Amare to the Lakers for Gasol? That works with the cap right?

  • http://www.nba.com VanCityBBall

i cant remember the last time ive seen BC be this agressive with drafts and trades/ signing… great pick up, but this is a big sign that they will amnesty Caleron… too bad, i liked him lowest turnover to assist ratio

  • Yep

@niq : conflicting reports on whether or not it’s protected. any update? if it’s protected top 5, it’s a great pickup. if not, i still don’t like it. this could have been toronto’s year to unload and rebuild.

  • timbo slice

all together a good move, send calderone away pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Anti Rob

Toronto still lacks that superstar, but this is a good move… Very deep team, needs someone to really step up. Jonas/Bargs/Derozan/Fields/Lowry with a bench of Davis/Amir/Kleiza/Ross/Bayless is probably a playoff team in a couple years, if not right away, but they are NOT contenders.

    Jerome Solomon ‏@JeromeSolomon
Rockets won’t get top-3 pick next year, top-2 pick next two years or No. 1 pick the next two. Otherwise lottery pick goes to Houston.

This means the Raptors still have a chance at Andrew Wiggins if this plan fails! It’s a GREAT deal. I’m hearing protected pick + Forbes for Kyle Lowry.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    Tried to tell you Teddy

  • RunNGun

Nice trade… looks like Houston is all in on Jeremy Lin. If not, they can settle for Ramon Sessions.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

Only downside I hear is that Kyle Lowry will be an unrestricted FA in 2 years… But for what it’s worth, I think he’ll be a fan favourite in Toronto soon enough.

yes i’ve always been a fan of his. last year he was killing my fantasy team before he injured himself

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

is lin a FA or RFA?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Keep It Real

Two Words….. “Jeremy Lamb”!!! Houston is his

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

@spit. He has early bird rights, I guess that’s sort of RFA since I hear Knicks are able to match any offer.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    WHAT THE EF?!?!

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

glad it’s to Toronto though… one of my 3 favorite teams. So I can still root for my favorite player there. This is absolutely stupid. I have no idea what the hell is wrong with Dork Elvis.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Rockets are so stupid, why wouldn’t they just offer 9 mil for Goran Dragic? Now they just lost 2 potential All-Star point guards, and Lin might not even sign with them. JESUS CHRIST.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

omg now i have to burn my Yao Ming jersey. thanks for reminding me Caboose. Sorry Yao…

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

New York will match for Lin. I have been reading they would have matched for Lin no matter what he was offered or who they got. Even if it was Nash.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

NY fans wouldn’t forgive the Knicks if they let Lin walk. Even for a max deal.

  • Lloyd

@MattieRog misconception homie. It may get kind of cold in the winter, not so bad this year actually, but tomorrow is supposed to feel like 36 degrees which is close to 100 farenheit for you Yankees.

  • Lloyd

    That said…welcome to Toronto!

  • Mack

Lowry could be the best PG the raptors have had since poor TJ Ford.. Great pick-up to replace Calderon in the starting lineup (never thought that day would come). Nash woulda got overpayed at 38 years old (still plays no D) to run a team struggling for the playoffs

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

And you have my empathy Teddy, you guys lose 2 excellent point guards, my Magic keep two mediocre ones. Can’t tell what’s worse.

  • MeloMan15

this is really good… really really good. Colangelo saved his ass

  • anonymous

All this did was buy BC some time, which sucks. Get him outta town, u just know the pick he traded away will turn into a HOFer.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca niQ

@Lloyd. Also, Kyle Lowry was born in Philly. It gets cold there too, no?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Please f*cking trade Andrea Bargnani. He’s literally the only thing keeping me from watching every Raptors game. This is a 7 footer who shoots 43% from the field and grabs 5 rebounds a game, as a starter. That’s just grotesquely sh!tty.

  • Yep

@ Teddy, let this year play out and see what he can do at PF with a legit rebounding/defense first centre. if jonas has any sort of post game, bargs may be able to develop into a poor man’s dirk — he’ll shoot over almost any pf in the league.

the bigger concern would be his inability to guard a true 4. bargs has cement blocks in his shoes.

  • Lloyd

@niQ true. Lowry should fit right in!

  • http://www.twitter.com/hurstysyd Hursty

What the actual FU*K are the Rockets doing? We now have NO PG. I DO NOT want Jeremy Lin running this team. He’s just not that great. I am so confused by this.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

Co-sign Teddy, Barg’s lack of defense, rebounding, and post-play disgusts me. At Yep, Bargs has had 6 years to show what he can do. We all know what he can do. He can get you 20 and 5 while shooting 43% from the field and offers absolutely no help defense, post defense, or resistance from the power forward/center position.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

@ Hursty: Lin is definitely a promising young PG but a proven talent like Goran Dragic he is not. Dork Elvis must be high off shrooms this off-season. Apparently the Rockets are letting Courtney Lee walk as well… Jesus Christ. But hey, at least we still have 5 combo-forwards!

There’s NO reason a player {Dragic} would ask for more money from Houston and then sign for less money to get out… He’d had enuf of GM Morey’s attitude of treating the players like “assets” to be used as trade chips. Houston once had a Proud basketball tradition ,..Moses Malone, Ralph Sampson, Hakeem. They still have a rabid fan base and a great owner. Owner going to right the ship.
