Joakim Noah Likes the Bulls’ Chances Even With an Injured Derrick Rose

Just about everyone wrote off the Chicago Bulls once it became clear that Derrick Rose would likely miss most of next season. Well, everyone but Joakim Noah, it turns out. From ESPN: “Rose tore his left ACL in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Bulls lost that first-round series in six, and Rose underwent surgery on May 12. The prognosis was for him to be sidelined 8-12 months. ‘I haven’t seen him in a couple of weeks, but I know he’s working really hard at getting back as soon as possible,’ Noah said. ‘Obviously, it was a tough break for us, but we’re going to bounce back. Right now, people are sleeping on us, and we’re all right with that. We know at the end of the day, come playoff time, we’ll be ready to go.’ While other Eastern teams, such as the Brooklyn Nets, made big splashes in the offseason, the Bulls lost key members of their bench in Omer Asik, C.J. Watson and Ronnie Brewer. The Bulls picked up Kirk Hinrich, Marco Belinelli and Vladimir Radmanovic. With Rose out, not many would expect the Bulls to notch the best regular-season record for the third season in a row. ‘I’m just focused right now on what I can do to help the team,’ Noah said when asked if he’s concerned the Bulls didn’t improve. ‘Obviously, we’ve lost some pieces. We’ve added some pieces. It’s exciting. We’ve gone through a little bit of adversity, but I think we’re a team full of fighters. That’s what I love about Chicago, about the Bulls.’ Noah said the ankle problems that precluded him form playing for France in the Olympics are improving. ‘My ankle is feeling a lot better,’ he said. ‘It’s not 100 percent. I’m rehabbing it in NYC. It’s one of the reasons that I’m not playing in the Olympics this year, to make sure it’s 100 percent for the NBA season.’”

Agreed with that assessment of tanking. Especially hearing that Rose won’t be back until March??? March 2013?
The season is almost over? The Bulls are like 5-60 record and Rose comes back and wins like the rest of the last month’s schedule to make their bad season more respectable? HA! Bulls just erased their season & I can’t wait to see what guy they can draft that will help pair up with Rose to build back up to respectability again.

  • Oh Nose

Tank next 2 seasons -> get higher picks -> create cap room for a better free agency period than 12-13′s

As a PROUD bulls fan..I silently believe they should tank..then again remember what happened to the Bulls during MJ’s 2nd season..playoffs! East is still not a strong conference..but tank to get a good rookie scorer would seem ideal. I have faith we will do well either way..in tanking or playoffs

I like Noah. Wish he didn’t play for a team I hate. Bulls better not tank. Karma already helped them land Rose, it won’t like it if they’re trying to game the system.

Teague would’ve been a lottery pick next year so they got one in a way if you think about it since this draft was so deep

They will not lose on purpose as promise. But the will lose real bad. get shabazzzzzzzz

I love noah but he’s gotta be dreaming. Bulls dont have much of a chance without derrick :(

Bulls obviously won’t be a top tier team, but they’ll make the playoffs, Thibs won’t let them tank.

Even if it is the smartest thing to do…

  • LP

i’ve been promoting a tanked season for awhile now, as a Bulls fan..ever since we signed Richard Hamilton as our 2-guard option for scoring

That sounds 2 Hollywood. He actin’.

  • LP

Thibs wont let us tank, but it will be a Lottery pick year… we can’t compete…Kirk Hinrich, Marco Billeneli, Luol deng, Carlos Boozer (amnesty candidate next year), Noah and Nazr muhammed…? who will avg over 15 points per game? What good is defense if you can’t score?

  • Ses

I’m so surprised that you all are saying we should Tank, WHY???!!! Rose missed half of our games last year and we still had the best record in the league (Oh how quickly we forget!) Ok, we lose our bench mob but we have workable pieces in their place. Hinrich is an upgrade to CJ, Bellinelli and Radmonovic make up for Kyle’s perimeter play, Butler can play defense like Brewer and has shown that he possibly can be an upgrade offensively (Once the Thib’s shackles are unloosed). The only real downgrade is Mohammed for Omer (But he is still a serviceable big man. If Teague can get it together then he can take JL3 spot. We still have our starting core (minus Rose). Come on people, have faith. I understand that we will not win a championship this year but we are no where near bad enough to even come close to a lottery pick. Get real guys (Charlotte still exist)!!!!!

  • Ses

    Teams in a much better Lottery position;
Charlotte, Cleveland, Detroit, Golden State, Sacramento.

The Bulls will definitely be within top 7 in the east maybe even as far up as 4 seed. Then we try our best to give people hell in the playoffs!

  • LP

@Ses I just rather not be mediocre..if we gonna have a bad year, lets at least be rewarded for it..Rose won’t play much this year, if at all…Luol is getting surgery after the Olympics…Tanks sounds bad, i’ll just call it ” lets develop our younger players”…i like teague and butler…We need a scoring punch tho..someway somehow…and we currently don’t have that, haven’t had that for 2 years, besides rose…

why are people saying their going to tank. Im a bulls fan and im not too excited about the the disassembled bench mob and the new pickups but we will still have a decent season. Still say the bulls make a low seed in the playoffs but we will be lucky if we make it past the first round.
