Knicks, Suns Reportedly Working on a Steve Nash Sign-and-Trade

According to the NY Daily News, Steve Nash could soon be taking his basketball and heading to Gotham. The Knicks and Suns are reportedly negotiating a sign-and-trade for the former NBA MVP: “The proposed deal would include Iman Shumpert, a player the Knicks are reluctant to part with, as well as Toney Douglas and at least two other players. The trade is necessary in order for the Knicks to give Nash a contract comparable to the three-year, $36 million offer he received from the Toronto Raptors. The addition of Nash would make the Knicks one of the league top offensive teams but also one of the NBA’s worst defensive starting units, especially of Shumpert is included in the trade. Regardless of what happens with Nash the Knicks intend to re-sign Jeremy Lin, who is meeting with the Houston Rockets Wednesday.”

  • Lorenzovanmatterhorn

this is stupid, if ny lose shump.

  • dma

man Mike D’Antoni would be perfect for this team.

  • Riki

    Giving up too much depth.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Giving up one of the best perimeter defenders at such a young age would be one of the stupidest moves made the Knicks in a while.

dolan is such a worth and useless peace of (human?) meat. f***ck up the roster once more just to have some more ticket sales? we need shump, that guys defense is much more important to the knicks than nashs offense, they better just keep lin or if not, try to get felton. dang. first time this offseason that it hurts again to be a knick -.-

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

co-sign jtaylor, nash is not brining a championship anyways

  • melvinorsomething

Still waiting for the delusion Knicks fans declaring themselves 2013 Champions…

  • http://www.nba.com VanCityBBall

Sure they will score like 150 a night but their gunna allow 300

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

@danfields. Hurts to be a knick? Try being a Raptors fan. We haven’t had much to cheer about in a good minute…

  • timbo slice

    lol vancitybball true say

  • Blamo

You gon give a YOUNG perimeter defender for an OLD facilitator who also can’t play D

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Only player from NY, PHX actually wants is Shumpert.

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danfields

    piece, sorry, typo

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Why do they even want Steve Nash? This is so stupid.

  • Jake

So in just over a week the Knicks lost their best defender, 6th man and starting pg

  • l2ising Phoenix

Smfh, are you kidding me Knicks? Trade Shump for a old , non d playing pg? Come on man.. if they do trade Shump , ill officially become a nets fan. And what’s the point of trying to retain Lin if your gonna bring in Nash? Smh woooooowwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Also, does anyone in the Knicks front-office think that Melo is going to all of a sudden turn into an off-the ball/catch and shoot player next season? Nash needs the ball in his hands at all times and so does Melo. The only person that benefits from this proposed trade is Amare.

  • http://www.slamonline.com L.E.

The Knicks were thinking with foresight doesn’t happen.

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danfields

@JTaylor21: melo worked perfect off the ball together with billups in denver. that was the year the nuggets got the conf finals

  • l2ising Phoenix

Sure we’ll be a 6th seed every year , make it too the second round couple times and then get buttraped by the heat over and over cuz we won’t have a great perimeter defender.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

Cosign JTalyor21. I don’t think Nash would complement Melo AT ALL.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

I love this move, another year of Knicks blaming everyone & swearing next season they’ll be amazing.

  • Yann Blavec

back in the nineties, i remember waking up every night screaming : “don’t trade mark jackson !!!”
no i’m kidding. but nash and lin would be the greatest pair of point guards we’ve (we = knicks) ever have since action jackson and rod strickland (stephon marbury derek harper chris childs and charlie ward anyone we’ve had a bunch of non talent at the point. )

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danfields

@niQ u got my deepest sympathies bro.

@Yann: google for the knicks in the 70s ;)

@Slam: got any links to the front office? could you please start an intervention on behalf of the knicks fans n beg dolan not to move shump`thx ^^

  • bravo

screw them both u gotta come to Toronto

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

Why would anyone go to Toronto? Even Nash wouldn’t go back there. You guys are lucky to even have a team lol.

  • Atsushi

sign nash (without giving shump away) + trade melo and chandler for howard. This would be “subarashi” like jepanese people would say.

  • http://www.facebook.com/wealwayswin Hersey

Surprised so few Knicks fans want Nash. Unselfish players can transform a team culture. Iso-Melo netted 1 playoff win. Even more surprised no Suns fans object to Shumpert (coming off a knee injury) is all the Suns would get after wasting TWO YEARS with Nash playing at a high level.

  • Steve the cannon

This is a horrible trade on behalf of my knicks. Hope they realize before it actcually goes through and we dont play any defense for a defense minded coach. It would have been a good trade if dantoni was still the coach here.

  • Yann Blavec

@ Atsushi : do you know how much people have google imaged subarashi !? I don’t get it anyway…
    @ everyone : happy 4th of july.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

I don’t know what to say if you think that Billups and Nash are similar (in terms of playing styles).

  • http://dimemag.com vantot fresnedee

shumpert is all defense, no offense.
    he is quite overrated.
in nash you would get somebody to mentor jlin.
    somebody who will bring leadership.
somebody who would dictate the offense.
knicks have chandler to erase some of his faults on defense.

  • O

    Damn you, Toronto!!!!!!

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danfields

@JTaylor21: they r not but in this system (watch some games from back then) melo was workin much time off the ball. n i consider nash as a better pg in creating for others than billups (much respect to billups n his game tho). but this is not the point anyway. i jus dont wanna see the knicks messin it all up again by pullin this stupid move instead of just sticking to what theyve got

  • RunNGun

SUBARASHI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! means wonderful! Make it happen, Dolan!

  • sid

ny must be the most impatient organization I`ve ever seen. give the team 2-3 whole seasons to develop into something before making drastic changes. then after 3 seasons if they dont improve or reach their potential (based on the given talent) make a move. there are rare cases where a squad develops and reaches its potential right away during the 1st season (i.e. 2008 boston) but most teams need time for this to happen. ny is no different. trading for nash is not the right move.

  • triyo

Whats the deal with Fields if this happens? Honestly if Nash comes to NY and Fields gets resigned i think they’ll be fine. Fields was playing at a really high level before Melo came and since that his confidence has been shaken. I think with a pg like Nash the Landry NY fans fell for would come back. he’s a solid defender, good cutter, can hit an open shot and plays the right way.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

danfields, I don’t know what system you’re referring to but MWoodson’s system revolves around hero/iso ball. Which means the ball will be in the hands of his best player aka Melo for the majority of the time while his teammates stand around watching.

  • mas

Those of you that don’t want Shump to go are the same that booed him when he got drafted. Sad.

  • http://www.slamonline.com melvin ely

what people fail to realize is that as soon as Nash leaves Phoenix’s magical team of doctors, his body is going to breakdown faster than a 20 yr old hyundai at the side of the freeway.

  • jinolin

Bad deal for NYK, I would rather give up Lin then Shump for Nash at this point— granted Lin may develop into something very special on and off the court ($$). With Woody at the helm I don’t see Nash working out (well not to the full Phx potential, if they do get him the ceiling is 4th best in the East at the very best with a Second round exit looming at the hands of Mia/Bos). Am I the only one begging for a Amare trade for a “Jack of All Trades” type player— ala Iggy? I like the idea of having defenders that knock down open looks and a quick center to go along with Melos Iso skill-set and Woody’s coaching— something like that might resemble a halfway decent semi-contender in the East.

  • MeloMan15

i love steve nash… but shumpert was one of the top 10 perimeter defensive players in the league and he’s only a rookie… he has the potential to be a great defensive player, plus his offense is still developping. It would be a bad move

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danfields

@JTaylor: we will se by the start of the season
