Lakers Reportedly Chasing After Steve Nash

The Los Angeles Lakers would likely need to engineer a sign-and-trade in order to acquire the 38-year old Steve Nash, according to NBA.com: “The Lakers, with a payroll already projected in excess of $83 million next season, would only be able to offer Nash an exception starting at $3.09 million for next season. It’s unlikely Nash would take that, so a sign-and-trade deal would be a more realistic possibility. The Lakers do have a viable starting point guard they could send Phoenix in such a deal, Ramon Sessions, who became an unrestricted free agent after surprisingly opting out of the last year of his contract. Forwards Jordan Hill and Matt Barnes are also free agents. The Lakers have also been looking to rid themselves of forward Metta World Peace, who has two years and $15 million remaining on his deal. But the Suns aren’t believed to be interested in World Peace. Nash is mulling offers from the Raptors, who reportedly have a three-year, $36 million deal on the table, and the Knicks, who only have the $3 million exception to offer as well. A source said Tuesday that Nash is allowing the Knicks time to try and create a sign-and-trade deal that would be palatable for Phoenix — and also get Nash a higher annual salary. But the Raptors put a crimp in New York’s plans Tuesday when they reached a verbal agreement with restricted free-agent guard Landry Fields on an offer sheet worth $20 million for three years.”

With Nash on his team Kobe will look even dumber when he shoots one on three. (if kobes willing to let it happen) Nash would resurrect Gasols career/post play

Nash won’t go to the Lakers. I can tell you that for sure.

has kobe ever played with a good pg? the majority of his career he has been blessed with 4s and 5s. but i am not sure if hes ever had a top 15 pg. as in top 15 out of 30 starting pg’s.

Nash would be a good addition to Lakers, Lakers are used to a point guard not playing defense, but at he can shoot and pass better than what Kobe has had in the past.

“But the Suns aren’t believed to be interested in World Peace.” … shame on them!

    ^^haha poor wording by slam

Kobe played with Ron Harper, i would have put him in the top 15 at the time. and yes I know ron harper and steve nash are complete opposites.

Ramon Session is a top 15 guard I guess….. Nash probably won’t accept the lakers. Looks like He needs money and not chips.

In ’04, Kobe played with Gary Payton, and I’m pretty sure he was a top 15 Point Guard that season. We all know how that season ended. I would love Nash in LA, but I just don’t see it happening…

nash needs to stop wasting everyone`s time and sign with toronto for 3 years $36 million. hes clearly money hunting and thats the best offer hes going to get. hurry up and sign with them already. at least deron was firm in his position: either bk or dallas and the 3rd day into free agency he made a decision bk.

Ron and Gary were both at the end of their careers. Kobe hasn’t ever played with a top pg in their prime for sure, let alone for more than one season.

Nash has to be the least criticized 2-time MVP of all-time.

  • heyheyhey

Kobe hates the suns. i don’t think he would be too happy playing with steve nash, unlike lebron who has no sense and is willing to play with anyone *cough* ray allen *cough*

  • Forge

Kobe needs the ball all the time and that would negate Nash’s ability and effectiveness to run a team. Kobe would never relinguish control of the team therefore this partnership would not work.

So aleksam thinks Nash is still in his prime.
I love Nash’s game but it’s like Ron and Gary he has lost a step or two.

@flight, session top 15!? were do u cop from?

  • 23

Nash is still an ELITE pg. Not top 3. But arguably top 5. And Kobe recruited Matt Barnes and artest, 2 players he hated. Kobe would have 0 problems wth playing alongside Nash

@ Flight: Sessions top 15 PG? Hahahahahhaha…that was really funny, dude. PGs better than Sessions, in no particular order:
    CP3
    Deron Willians
    Rose
    Westbrook
    Rondo
    Nash
    Calderon
    Lin
    Dragic
    Lowry
    Rubio
    Mo Willians
    Billups
    Stuckey
    Parker
    Lawson
    Kidd
    Chalmers
    Irving
    Curry
    Nelson
    Conley
    Wall
    Jack

So, as you can see, the only teams that have worst PGs than LA are the Bobcats, Sacramento and maybe Indiana and Milwaukee. So, yeah.

Kobe and Ron were friends before they played together.

Nash to the Lakers won’t happen. It would require a S&T which the Suns don’t want to do with the Lakers. Why would players have any issues if it presents them a chance to compete for a title? I’m sure there are plenty of guys who hate Garnett on the court but would jump at the chance to play with him.
