Lou Williams Not Returning to Philadelphia 76ers

When the Philadelphia 76ers agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal with guard Nick Young earlier today, it appeared likely that Lou Williams’ time in Philly had come to an end. And according to Williams himself, the high-octane guard indeed will not be returning to the team next season. The Sixers’ leading scorer in ‘11-‘12 took to Twitter to break the news:

well if ray ray goes to miami, lou will be headed to boston!

I doubt that after they grabbed Jet. I think he’s going to the Mavs.

Boston has no money to sign Lou Williams. it looks like Memphis, Phx (depending on Gordon/Brown/Mayo situation), or Portland. as far as i can tell.

^so they can have him, avery bradley and jason terry. 3 undersized shooting guards. makes sense…

    sorry that was for logues

  • Suberzat

  • Jerome

LAL for the mle? He can come off the bench for Nash and Kobe. I’m sure he can command more money but I think it’d be a good fit.

  • Hussman25

    Mmmmmm… Dallas anyone?!?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

LAL only has the mini mid level. which is $3M – they are looking to use it on Grant Hill.

For all the teams that have some money to spare why would anyone sign Williams over OJ Mayo? Mayo is now an unrestricted free agent.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

Yeah it’s weird I’ve heard nothing about Mayo who is pretty good.

  • http://hotnewhiphop.com Knifer

I just read there’s a rumor on twitter about a Knick sign and trade for Mayo.

  • Basketball_iQ

boston has the money they want to sign Rayray with… but I dont think that means anything like Lou is coming cuz he aint.
He’ll probably fall into memphis’ hands since i highly doubt Ray is going there. but maybe not… if he wants a paycheck, Houston is calling, just lost Dragic and Lowry… sounds good.

  • thecomputerdude

    Come to Charlotte!

  • Heals

For the folks saying Beantown, what exactly are you talking about? First off where are all the mins? Secondly the whole reason he’s leaving Philly is for more $$$ and a chance to blossom as a starter, neither of which Bos can offer. What is it with some LAL and C’s fans that they think everybody is coming to their team…

  • Tyquez foster

Go to the bulls are Houston

Heals, we just gotta deal with our mental midget brothers.

Damn, who’s going to provide the offense in Philly?

  • Fat Lever

Lou will isn’t taking less than 7m a year. That’s why he opted out of his deal with the Sixers. He’s not signing for the mle anywhere.

  • LA Huey

Will Sessions and Lou Williams regret opting out?

  • Marcel

Man I remember on draft night in 05′, this dude was supposed to be a first round pick and he ended up goin 45 to the sixers, smh he absolutely tore it up at south gwinnett. Someone needs to pick him up immediately

  • http://abcnews.com charliewinning

Seven mil a year is a bit much for him. He’s reached his ceiling.

  • Marcel

    No he hasnt

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

The Heat just got Ray Allen, go to the Lakers Lou. MOAR SUPERTEAMS

  • Cameronaka206

oj mayo is not even on the same level playing wise as lou will, lou is a young iverson who can help a team immediately!

  • Esmooth

7 million is not too much to ask for……he been in the 6th man of the year face for the last 3 years….he also lead the team in scoring 2 times off the bench…he is a 6’2 6’3 sg/pg who fill it up and is under 25 years old….theres alot more players who are getting paid more than him who he is at the same level or better than…like jermemy lin..cmon he deserve a way better deal and has more than 2 seasons of productive stats compare to 20 games to j lin…this guy can be a flat out scorer maybe top 5 if given the chance on a bad team like raptors, bobcats, etc…he has that killer insticts and can be scary if he gets hot

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    A young Iverson lol

  • mattsg

Man Lou is definitely worth 7 mil a year . Whoever says otherwise don’t know ish about him . Stop basing your ish off other people. He’s my favorite player in the league && I’m devasted that were losing him . He is much better than nick young and arguably better than oj. On so disappointed In the sixers management for doing him like this. 7 plus years of hard work he’s been through so much with the 7 6 he wanted to come back to philly smh . We better not trade iggy from picks or trash . I rather trade thad young and vucevic for a legitimate power forward, or center . Something along the Lines of Paul millsap.
Such a sad day . Best wishes to EB && meeks too

  • JML-G

Lou a young Iverson?! get off bath salts, man

  • Marcel

Yess I totally agree wit u cameron

Celtic might take him. avery is on the injured list until december. so louis and terry will share time till avery is fit to play this december.

  • Yep

fyi, there are more than 4 teams in the l. there’s a pretty good chance a guy that young after the season he just had goes to a team not named the lakers, celtics, heat or knicks. he could just as well end up in cleveland or atlanta and take a chunk of money.
