Michael Beasley Says He’s Going to Be an All-Star Next Season

The Phoenix Suns signed free agent forward Michael Beasley this summer. The wildly talented Beasley  – who’s made headlines so far in his young NBA career mostly for getting himself into trouble, rather than for his game — claims that he’s ready to reach All-Star status. From XTRA 910 in Phoenix (via SRI): “On his past issues: ‘You have to embrace your past. Ultimately it was my fault. I’m here to play basketball and I’m here to work hard and hopefully my next contract will be a little bit bigger to say the least. I’ve been through a lot in my past, some good and some bad and that kind of altered my value. I understand I’ve grown and I’m ready to move on.’ When he realized that it was time for him to mature: ‘My last year in Minnesota, which was last year. There are a lot of things that I know I had control over or did have control over and I realized it was me who didn’t capitalize on a lot of those things. In order to grow as a person the first step is realizing it was your fault more than anybody else. I did that and I’m ready to move on.’ How he would describe his game: ‘I’m just a winner. I’m going to work hard and do what I have to do on both sides of the floor but overall I just want to be exciting. This is a business and the fans come to be entertained. At the same time I just want to win.’ [...] Whether he believes he will be an All-Star before his contract is up in Phoenix: ‘In my mind I’m going to be an All-Star this coming season. All I want to do is win. Whether I get the recognition for what I do on the floor or not, as long as we’re winning I’m okay with that.’”

he said, in his mind he’s going to be an all-star. he also said in other interviews he can defend shooting guards. he’s obviously chalk full of confidence. But he sounds like he is concentrated on this season and improving as a player, from the 5 or so interviews i’ve heard since he came to the valley last week.

  • ReHeat

BG , KL and LA say he’s not going to be an all star next season.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    He isn’t a power forward.

  • da real

there is no question he has the talent. if he has the green light and phoenix is doing ok he could be in that conversation.

  • RunNGun

I wonder how much he toked before he got on to joke with them radio folks? He probably thought them bright PHX jerseys were Skittles.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

he said he hasn’t smoked pot in exactly 19 months.

  • TTWS3

Well, NBA 2K13 isn’t too far away. So maybe there’s hope.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I hope it works for dude.

  • bmorezbest

it’s possible if he has his head on straight he sounds determined we will see i know if it doesn’t happen he is gonna getkilled in the media

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

The talent is there, so hopefully he gets his head straight…

  • Sonny

I’m rooting for Beasley, if he has his mind right and works hard he’ll be fine.

  • NDP

Upon arriving in Minnesota, Michael Beasley also once said: “Honestly, and I know a lot of people are not going to like the fact that I’m going to say this, but I think we are the team to beat. You know, that’s just me and my ego speaking. I think the Lakers are the defending champs two years in a row, I think the Lakers still hold that title. It’s nice to see somebody try to fight back but as of now, the Lakers are still the team to beat.”

  • HowHeDoDat

I doubt it. Durantula is a lock for an allstar spot. Then (2) Rudy Gay, (3) Paul Millsap,(4) Shawn Marion and then maybe (5) Beasely. I think he can be right there with Rudy Gay but he hasn’t shown that he has heart.

  • FnF

Blake, Klove, LA, Durant, Gay, Dirk/Duncan, Ibaka… all get more media exposure than Beasley. Either he drops a triple double on Lebron and KD in the same week or averages 30ppg. Anything short of doing those things, he won’t make the team.

  • http://www.nba.com Shadojoker

Too much talent out west unless he learns to speak Chinese and starts a global campaign..

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

I heard Phx got some good weed.

  • JBJ

I hope he does. I agree with the guy above. Beasley would have to kill Durant or Lebron to get exposure. Or he has to average somewhere around 30ppg. This is the second time where Beasley will be the number 1 option. He was the number 1 option his first year in Sota but he got injured. He was putting up all star numbers before he got injured and after he healed. 22.4 ppg 6 reb 2 ast 48% shooting and 44% from 3. After the injury he averaged 21.6ppg 47% shooting 6reb and 3 ast. He has the talent. All he has to do is bring it every night.

  • JL

If he learns to play some defense, then he’s all about winning. Right now he is all about shooting long jumpers.

  • Mariano

He’ll have to catch some of that linsanity

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    Taylor, and scripts….

  • http://www.stillonthebench.blogspot.com TR

I cant remember the last time Super Cool Beas even impressed me

  • http://scal4three.blogspot.com/ Jon J

As a tweener (not 100% SF and not 100% PF) he had once shown abilities comparable to that of Carmelo and LeBron, but has been plagued by off the court issues. If that part of his life is really as over as he claims, and he keeps working hard, this could be the turning point for him. He’s still only 23, same age as Jeremy Lin.

  • ALD

lol yall funny cuz i know at least one of you are high at work or going to work… All jokes aside? Mike needs to focus because he has too much talent. Should be up there with durant. and for the ppl who agree that shawn marion and paul millsap have a better chance at being a allstar must be related by blood.

  • The Mauve Avenger

he can say whatever he wants no one’s going to remember come All Star weekend.

I’ve always liked Beasley, never thought he was a bad guy just one who needs to mature more and he seems like he’s doing just that with recent interviews I’ve heard from him. He still has all-star potential and I don’t doubt him.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2Pm_5aIavU&feature=g-all-u Max

    Dude was hella high

  • http://www.slamonline.com nbk troll

Highly doubt he gets a all-star nod. He is not popular with fans, and doubt coaches put him on, unless he puts up crazy numbers.

  • http://twitter.com/SixFootGiant Kevin

Supercool Beas smoking that Keisha again

  • Marcel

Hes still got upside, he was unbelievable at kansas state. If he can stay focused, and put up the numbers that he did at kansas state, then he will definitely be an allstar

  • http://www.dimemag.com showtime

Super Cool Beaz has the talent.. just got to mature but the talent is there kid is not a bum like most people want 2 beleave…

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jzakoni

ayo Beasy stop smokin dem bleezys ni99a LOL

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

beasley and the suns are a showbag, you dont know what to expect from them. they could play for the playoffs or suffer one year in rebuild mode. i like their frontcourt with gortat frye scola beasley and morris, but the backcourt lacks a bit of scoring power. does anybody here know if they want to bring childress redd and brown back? if dragic can take it to the next level they might already be there, but if he stays at his (solid) level then i dont think that theyll be more than just a team playing for the 8th spot. if so, beasley wont be considered as an all star. if dragic runs the team well, anything can happen, also for beasley.

  • http://www.dimemag.com Showtime

^ @ danpowers the Suns Amiestied(if thats a word) Childress, redd is gone but brown is coming back with 2 year deal i think..

  • Ldub

If he can outplay Durant and Gay then perhaps he can get to the all-star game. I think with no one else really on the team, he will have the #’s (potentially). But there are just some players that are damn near guaranteed an all-star spot. Beasley isnt one of them.

  • Michelle

He is going to be the next Metta World Peace not an allstar. Keep dreaming Beasley or shall i say keep smoking..

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

thanx @ Showtime. so if dragic wont develop into an elite point guard, a good scoring guard would be what seperates the suns from a so so team from a good team

  • dma

not if dragic doesn’t pass him the ball. he’s out to prove his fat pay raise too

  • mike

    Two words: Shot Selection.

All star over Kevin love . Lamarcus. Durant. Gasol. Zebo. Duncan. Dirk. Blake. I think he is high on srooms

  • http://slam flight9

Beasley should just be easy. It is gonna be easy to average 25 points on 20 attempts but on the losing end. Ask Jennings who chalk up to0 many shots per game.

  • SeanMagicJaun

He needs to study film of Glenn Robinson in his prime.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

it is sooo boring in here without knicks headlines, no controversy, no hating, no heated debates *yawn*

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

He will be an All Star when pigs fly, thats my answer. On NBA2K12 he is a beast,LOL.

  • follow-me-@G3RMAN_RAMOS

This is good for 20 points at will, especially with the extra minutes.

  • Marc

The weed jokes are getting kind of corny now. lol He has the talent.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

im not so sure about the minutes. they got a tight frontline in frye, scola, gortat and morris. at least morris could cost him many minutes if he worked on his game during the summer.

  • ab40

Gortat, Morris, Beasley, Dudley and Dragic. They won’t make the playoffs but they’ll be exciting and with another solid ofseason they might take a big leap after next season.

  • Basketball iQ

For anyone who doesn’t know, beasley has skills comparable to the best scorers in the league, he just has to put it together. What the problem is is that people wanna keep him in the past instead of letting the kid move forward. If he leaves all the “off the court” stuff, OFF THE COURT, he could be an all start caliber player. Look, he’s in phoenix, he’s gonna get whatever shot he wants, I know I’m the kind of person, doubters fire me up on the court.

  • T-Money

he could really be melo if he were willing to bully people a little more on the offensive end and work from the elbows in. sometimes he’s just out there floating shooting deep jumpers.

  • T-Money

i was also surprised that he hasn’t been able to finish with authority in the nba. he has the same wingspan and max vert as melo (35)… so why can’t he bang on cats?! it’s maddening.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

he should take some special mentoring lessons with oakley mason and starks about toughness as other players do with olajuwon when they work on their post game

  • http://slamonline.com Krishan

He was a straight up beast in college what the hell happened to him? This was the same dude that got a lot of people arguing whether d rose shouldve been a 2nd overall pick. Still hoping he pulls it together because I believe offensively he could be unstoppable.

  • Greg

Did you really say Marion is a borderline all-star? wow….

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woWqSmichOo RunNGun

He’s talented but a knucklehead. He really needs to take it to the rim more often than settling for deep, deep jump shots; which was one of the most frustrating things to watch on LP. Until he grows up and learns to play D, he can kiss those all-star dreams goodbye.

  • http://kb24.com x-DrEw_MaiN-x

Man Beasley has game we just haven’t seen it yet he can score from the wing and he can post.. I see him putting up 25 this season. I don’t count the sun’s out this year if Kendall Marshall can run that offense they’ll be 8th. But Taylor the good weed is in Cali not az

  • Mack

Beasley is one of the best scorers in the league already, and Phoenix needs some help now that Nash can’t get everyone buckets… 24 a night with 8+ boards could be realistic with B-Easy working hard. He wasn’t drafted 2nd overall for nothing.

  • BostonBaller

..it could happen…but right after he said the quote, instead of picking up a ball he sat down his big bowl of fruit loops and picked up the xbox control then told his boy to pass the blunt. lol. Just kidding.

  • Dmc14

hope he plays well in Phoenix. good luck beasley.
