Raymond Felton Thinks He’s Better Than Jeremy Lin

Most New York Knicks fans are still reeling from the departure of Jeremy Lin — who was introduced in Houston yesterday — but perhaps they can take some comfort in Raymond Felton’s bravado, self-confidence and alleged weight loss. No? Alright then … From the NY Post and NY Times: “Moments after Jeremy Lin was being introduced by the Rockets in Houston, Felton was in Las Vegas talking with the MSG Network during a Knicks Summer League game. ‘I am a competitor, I am a point guard just like he is, so do I think I am better? Of course, I am going to say that,’ Felton said. ‘I think I am better than any point guard. That’s the way I am supposed to think. But at the same time it’s nothing personal between me and Jeremy. But people are going to make it about that. I am fine with that.’ [...] Felton struggled last year with the Blazers during the strike-shortened season and has come under harsh criticism for the fact that he played out of shape. It’s not something that Felton denies, but at the same time he is determined to prove his naysayers wrong. ‘I wasn’t at the weight I [would] normally be in. I am not making no excuses, it was a lockout, I understand that. I am the first one to say, I wasn’t in shape,’ Felton said. .. . ‘I am hearing from everybody, he wasn’t in shape last year. I played in the league seven years, about to be eight, came in out of shape one year and that’s all everybody wants to talk about. They don’t talk about what you did good. They talk about when you do something bad. I look forward to this year and shutting up everybody’s mouth.’ [...] ‘(This team) is good enough for the Finals. This is a contending team without a doubt,’ Felton said. ‘That’s the way I am supposed to feel, I think a lot of people should feel the same way. The thing I am excited about is I have so many options: ’Melo at one end, J.R. Smith on the other, Amar’e (Stoudemire) on the screen-and-roll or on the elbow, Tyson (Chandler) at the rim. There are so many things you can work with.’ [...] At the Cox Pavilion on Thursday, Felton appeared to have lost a good portion of the weight he gained in Portland. Felton would not say how many pounds he shed, but when asked if it was more than 20, he smiled. ‘A whole lot,’ Felton said. ‘I’ll leave it at that. I’m ready to play.’”

lol yesterday was a tough day without knicks headlines, thank you slam!

  • JML-G

Felton aint lying, for Knicks he is better fit than Lin.. yall just wait and see how Lin scores some numbers, but wont carry his team at all

  • Sheed

I like this. Raymond Felton is one hell of a player and I’m confident in his ability. He was putting up crazy good numbers during his last tenure with the Knicks. Can’t wait to see how this pans out

  • http://www.nba.com/knicks danfields

agree on that. lin is the better scorer but felton(in shape) is much better at running the offense. im sad that lin left but i also think that we will be perfectly fine with felton while lin is better off with his 5mio more on his contract

  • RunNGun

Are you Felton kidding me? LMAO

  • http://Slamonline Kobesbeastin24

Lol @ dfields, Felton’s a good pg I think Brooklyn she be a little bit worries. They jus need to learn to play ream D

  • http://Slamonline Kobesbeastin24

Sorry my autocorrect misspelled a lot but u get what I’m saying

  • MeloMan15

Love Feltons confidence… but I saw him at the summer league game yesterday… he did NOT lose any weight

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

So you mean Twitter was horribly wrong? Not Twitter, I thought I could trust Twitter.

  • Benny

    Joke of the day

  • T-Money

At what? eating contests? We already knew that. Next will be Jason Kidd saying he can out-drink Jeremy Lin any day.

  • L Dribble

Considering he said ‘I think I am better than any point guard’ you could have said “Felton thinks he is better than DRose, CP3 and Rondo”.

  • Flame Heart

Lol did anybody else read where he said that his team was good enough for the finals? That should’ve been the headline of this post!

  • OTB

Did he just say he thinks he’s the best PG in the league?

  • LA Huey

Lin is better than Felton basketball-wise. Not sure who’s the better value though.

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/tray-5 T-Ray

They forgot to mention in the interview that he had just walked out of an Irish pub with Jason Kidd…

  • deadeyewong

Does it really matter if Felton is better than Lin? Felton will fit better in Melo’s team ISO-scheme, a PG with one mission, feed the SF, afterall the SG will be lofting bricks at every touch already. Kind of feel sorry for Woodie, who will be sharing coaching duties with the SF.
Lin will be quite happy on the world stage as the Rocket’s floor general!

  • Mas

    What?

  • smoove

felton is a better Pg, with a higher IQ for the game due to his veteranship, and a WAY lower T.O. to assist ratio..anyone that say lin is better is deluded.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick Tha Quick

What’s the deal with the Knicks signing fat players: Eddy Curry, Jerome James, Baron, Charlie Ward, Z-Bo, Francis, The Rental. What gives?

  • LA Huey

Everyone dies in Dark Knight Rises, btw

    Gasp….spoiler?! You bastard!

  • http://WWW.BENNY.COM BIG MONEY

FELTON IS A GREAT PG I WOULD TAKE HIM ON MY TEAM ANYDAY OF THE WEEK. HE KNOWS HOW TO CONTROL THE TEMPO AND HE GETS HIS TEAM INVOLVED AND HE DOESN’T JACK UP 25 SHOTS A GAME LIKE WESTBROOK.

  • Tyquan

Raymond Felton will be a good fit for the Knicks just like he was before he was dealt to Denver in the Melodrama trade. He didn’t have the best season this past year with Portland but look at the cards he was given Brandon Roy retired, Lamarcus Aldrige got hurt, Oden stays hurt and was eventually waived Jamal Crawford wasn’t exactly the best fit and Wes Matthews regressed so is that Ray Felton’s fault. He was ballin’ before he got traded 17 and 9 ain’t much to sneeze at plus he and Amare were good with the pick and roll he probably would have made his first all star team too if he didn’t get traded so in hindsight they should kept him in the first place and Denver should have kept Chauncey especially if the Knicks were gonna get Felton back anyways Jeremy Lin just so happen to fall from the sky and it was a feel good story nothing more nothing less…………

  • micky

Felton is definitelly better and he’s gonna prove that.
    Thanks for being back*

  • tt

    Wtf, let see next season.

  • Jeff Choa

yup… this is the PG the Knicks got…

  • patrick

He’s definitely not the best pg in the league..Chris Paul can hits shot much better than him..

  • http://www.nba.com VanCityBBall

i dont think he thinks that hes the best PG in the L, im pretty sure he just ment his *Mind Set* has to be “i’m the best in the league.”- no need to take it so seriously… but he does fit in better with NYC than lin by any stretch of the imagination…everybody is reacting like JLin is the second coming of CP3 or something, but he would probrobly avg. more TO’s than CP3′s points

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Corky

Felton has the potential to be the next Isaiah Thomas. He’s a lock for the all star team next year.

  • Caguax

Better at the hotdog eating contest.

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com KHoliday

@corky… I know ur joking so I’m not even gonna comment on what you just said. just going to give you a LOL, so here you go… LOL!

  • Sin City

Media is a gift and a curse, fueled by the ability to create trends and bandwagons. Felton made sure to say he’s better than any PG, but the title of the topic targets Lin. I can’t wait for the start of the new season. It’s show and prove time.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

    @kholiday trolls ignore it.

  • Cartel

Felton is absolutely a better point guard than Lin. Ppl judge him from that lil time he spent in Portland, but base his talents on what he’s done his career. He’s a reliable point guard that’s played well with both Tyson Chandler and Amare…He us the point guard I’m most confident in when u compare the 2…

  • Yann Blavec

If he’s the next Isiah, I hope he doesn’t become GM…

  • ClydeSays

He can definitely get the ball past half-court and give it to Melo.

  • pposse

“look forward to this year and shutting up everyones mouth” – so typical. what is wrong with bball players that go to NYC? There is such a more classier and appropriate way to say what you mean rather than sounding all stand off-ish. The knicks are such bums, this team will suck just like the rest of them.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

@cartel: quite funny and reversed pictures. most people judge lin by a nice little run during a shortened season and felton by an awful stretch during the same shortened season. i think the only concern is feltons shape. when he is in shape then he is a better fit when it comes to the most important requirements to the classical understanding of the point guard position while lin looks like the better overall basketball player because of his size and ability to score which makes up for many of his flaws. melo and stat need alot of shots while smith simply just takes many shots, lins strongest skill wouldve been wasted away anyway for most of the way, so felton could be a good / better fit. unless the knicks stay healthy. as soon as melo+stat are out or hurt again we are f***d

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Felton is better than Lin, anybody who thinks Lin is a starting point guard in the NBA, name one team Lin could start on, only Bobcats and Houston, since Houston got rid of their better point guards for an unproven product.

  • ron

I love Felton’s game. And I wish Lin would prove himself soon.

  • Sean B

I hate the excuse “people only want to talk about what you did bad… not all the good things you do.” Here’s the moral of the story… keep the negative stories to a minimum and its a non issue.

  • andynorstrom

Felton is better than Lin, Felton has been a consistent starting PG for 8(ish) years now. Lin blew up for 10 games last season, whilst during that stretch also played worse against better teams.

  • Mike From Spain

I don’t feel I need to prove that Lin is worse than Felton. I liked Felton’s game while he was in the Knicks before the trade, and was baffled at his bad production afterwards, I hope Felton returns with his A game. I think anyone who loves basketball would like to see these Knicks run by a good PG, and Felton could live up to this. I want to see outstanding basketball, be it in the Knicks or elsewhere. I am a Timberwolves fan though.

  • Ana Tana

    I love Jeremy Lin.

  • danpowers

i like jeremy lin and think that he has more potential than felton but right now felton just plays better than lin
