Spurs Reportedly Interested in Bo McCalebb

The Spurs are “seriously interested” in signing New Orleans hoops legend Bo McCalebb, reports the Italian website Sportando. “Bo Lester” has been content in dominating Europe with his current team, Montepaschi Siena. But a drastic budget reduction is dismantling the squad, making McCalebb the top prize on the European market. The problem is that the NBA only allows the Spurs to offer $500,000 to buy out McCalleb, and European franchises can offer a much larger buyout: “San Antonio Spurs are seriously interested in Bo McCalebb, as reported to Sportando. The problem is that the buyout offered by the Spurs is not satisfying Siena. Mens Sana is trying to monetize the departure of the American PG with passport from FYR of Macedonia this summer, considering that the contract signed by the player doesn’t have any buyout this year, for both NBA and Europe. McCalebb has an NBA out just at the end of the upcoming season. The PG should pay by his own part of the buyout if he decides to leave for the NBA now. In Europe Fenerbahce Ulker and Unics Kazan are targeting the player and can offer to Siena a bigger buyout, over the million of euros.”

He needs to be in the NBA!

Won’t even act like I know who this guy is, what makes him good with all due respect?

For the European level, he’s a beast. I think he deserves a shot in the NBA but….I don’t understand why in San Antonio….

@redd super quick, really good handle, crafty with the ball, good over all feel for the game….

Also check out Aggrey’s piece (linked “Bo Lester”), Redd.

youtube him Redd, obviously he looks a lot better than he would do in the NBA, and he’s a little undersized, but he can put the ball in the hole. In the 2011 eurobasket I think it was he pretty much single-handedly kicked Lithuania out of their own tournament, huge upset.

Thanks guys, appreciate it. I agree, nice first step, the question still always being how will he transition but he deserves a shot I agree.

“Dominating Europe”……………..I guess that’s why he has never won a Euroleague MVP or championship.

The level of writing at this site is HORRIFIC.

Spurs are probably the best at finding overseas talent..

@ Redd If for some odd reason, you watched the FIBA Euro, during last year’s lockout, Bo was BALLING! His Macedonia team wasn’t that great but he was destroying Lithuania and other big Euro teams by his damn self. Still believe he can make in the L given the right opportunity. Like Spit said, he’s fast, strong body, finishes in the paint with contact and is always on attack mode.

I was at Lithuania for the entire EuroBasket and Bo was the star. Europeans understandably were proud of him and wanted to stay in the EuroLeage. bo to his credit wanted to remain loyal to clubs and fanbase that supported him.
I guess its not unlike an underrated college being brought all the way to the Final Four by one player. Bu instead of colleges, we’re talking international powerhouses.
As is the case with all these things, being the top player for your Country doesn’t mean you’re given the same leeway for your NBA club. Just look at Juan Carlos “La Bomba” Navarro, the MVP for EuroBasket’11 and his stint in the L.

He is a point guard with the style of CP3, Can be very effective for Pop, He is not the most elegant player, but he is got game. San antonio should make the effort and bring him to the team.

Lol@Nick yea I missed the great FIBA Euro :( but you’re right the guy can penetrate, his first step is a killer. And co-sign Terry, Spurs are great at that.

  • petro3

That would be dope! I hope this happens because Bo can ball his ass off!

  • getsmart92

Yeah Spurs are good at finding talent overseas but not good at finding the right position.
