Tyson Chandler Finds Trash Talk from the Brooklyn Nets ‘Foolish’

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

The 2012-13 NBA season is still months away from tipping off, but already, there’s some blood brewing between the two New York teams.

Brooklyn represents the new kids on the block, who are full of arrogance, and aren’t shy about their plans to unseat the Knicks as the city’s top team.

And this does not sit well with Tyson Chandler. At all.

From Newsday:

“Ive heard a little bit, but I think its foolish,” Chandler said before today’s Team USA’s practice at George Washington University. “The Nets are just coming together. I think its pointless for them to talk to us about anything. First, they need to establish themselves.” Chandler said all the hot air emanating from Brooklyn is premature — and unproven. “Its just a lot of talk for nothing,” he said. “Its almost the same thing as us talking mess to the Dream Team. It cant happen right now, so I’ll let all my talking speak for itself the first time we play the Nets.”

Chandler even suggested there’s not even a true rivalry between the two just yet. “They are trying to make a beef or whatever thats not there, to be honest with you,” he said. “Its easy to talk in the summertime, but well see how things go when the season starts.”

The Nets and Knicks will face off a minimum of four times during the regular season, if the chatter in the summer time is any indication, it promises to be a testy affair each time out.

New York hoops fans—a long-suffering bunch—should consider themselves thankful.

Hey tyson, the knicks havent established themselves either! getting draft picks is better than 1-8 in the playoffs.

I really hope these two teams play each other on opening night. It would be epic.

  • andre sky

the new york knicks is a team for new york and the brooklyn nets is a team that’s trying to build a fan base. And I think somebody said that the knicks are 1-8 in the playoffs but the funny thing is they went to the playoffs and even got themselves a victory. and O one more thing let’s go KNICKS!!!!!!

Someone should tell Tyson Chandler the Knicks havent proven to be cream of the crop either! I love to hear the chatter tho, because it makes for better basketball. Let’s turn this into a true rivalry!

    Gamesmanship, Tyson… gamesmanship!

Almost the same as us talking mess to the dream team.. Are you listening Kobe!

  • shuref00t

Rivalry or not, it’s safe to assume their preseason match up will be played seriously for sheer bragging rights, like the Lakers vs Clippers.

ALD was reading my mind. lol….they haven’t even established themselves either or have they?

  • mask

this is going to be awesome. I love rivalry basketball and no matter how much he wants to deny its a rivalry the fact is it was a rivalry as soon as they moved to brooklyn. I can not wait until the season starts.

  • markorsomething

the Nets will be a hella lot better than the Knicks next year.

What’s foolish is for either of these teams to be trash talking when the Nets haven’t even made the playoffs and the Knicks haven’t even sniffed the second round. That’s cute that they have a “rivalry” though

A 8th seed showing off to a non playoff new team. Dope

  • dywm

Real New Yorkers know who their team is.

I wonder how awkward the practices must be now with Deron, Melo, and Chnadler. . . . lol

  • gotta chill

The Nets suck, they have been to two Finals not to long ago while the Knicks were complete trash and people still don’t give them any respect.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

They’re a 8, 7 seed(?) what respect have they acquired?

  • Layzie

Being a 7/8 seed is better than being a non seeded team. I would take iso melo over iso joe all day everyday.

  • ALD

lol @ knick fans. did ya not see dwill crossing up melo in the military video. Get used to that!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

Agreed but no knock on Knicks cause this year they’ll be great but No 7th seed should talk smack.

  • Brahsef

NY teams should talk trash. They’re just emulating the city. Biggest trash talkin city in the world

  • KING

At the end of the day, they both suck

  • Darren

So when exactly did the Knicks talk smack? All they’ve done is tell the Nets to cool it.

  • dalai lama

haha a testy affair double entendre

  • ab40

I pitty the fool who says the nets are better than the knicks<– Tyson
Chandler. Both teams are not that great and can't rebound for sh1+ and have no noteworthy defenders besides Gerald Wallace and Tyson Chandler.

  • Sean B

This is coming from the same bunch of scrubs who wanted the world to believe they were ready to “shock the world” in Round 1 last year. Shut up Tyson.

  • http://9gag.com/gag/4568611 Max

ab40, IMAN Shumpert, Dwill and Joe are good defenders.

  • AsadSaleh3

I don’t call being a first round exit playoff team exactly an established squad worthy of any kind of respect. The Nets will probably finish with a better record next season because their players fit together. D-Will, Joe, Gerald Wallace, Brook Lopez (if he can learn to rebound better), CJ Watson. Melo and Amar’e are a bad fit. Raymond Felton isn’t too much of an upgrade over Jeremy Lin. Jason Kidd is, at this point, more of a mentor and a 3 point shooter than anything else. Tyson played a huge part in a championship team so I can see why he would want respect, it’s just that his teammates don’t really put any kind of fear into anyone. Melo shoots. Amar’e shoots whenever Melo isn’t shooting. Tyson will block shots and catch occasional alley oops from Felton and Kidd. They’ll win 44 or 45 games. Another first round exit.

Thanks Max, I was going to type that and you saved me the time.

  • http://9gag.com/gag/4568611 Max

Hell, if the Nets would wind up getting Dwight somehow, and keep DWill and JJ they’ll automatically become one of the best defensive teams in the L.

  • LA Huey

Someone needs a start a website dedicated to documenting all the activity in this rivalry.

  • Gaddy

Why don’t all of you shut up and wait for the darn season to start! No one knows who will be the most dominate team in NY! First of all, the season of 2011-2012 was a short one. So, with that being said, Let the real season begin! 2012-2013 will be a greater and more exciting season. Just wait for the ride in October and then talk your mess….

  • aml

    the deaf and the dumb

  • high off haze

iim not listening to nobody who hasnt made the playoffs since jason kidd was there..which was like 02

  • Herb

Carmelo Anthony will be the next Charles Barkley. Trash talking memorable player, yet zero ring!!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

Gaddy..nets were in New Jersey kid there wasn’t no town rivalry.

  • Yesse

What did he expect? It’s Brooklyn, ofcourse they are gonna talk trash. What’s up with him saying how much better Knicks are than the Nets? If Nets get another good player, they might just beat the Knicks.

  • Jhookem

We are the N.Y. KNICKS, we represent N.Y., and all the Nets represent is Brooklyn.

  • Scal

SLAM NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ON BRIAN SCALABRINE FOR THEIR NEXT ISSUE.
