Brooklyn Nets Still Searching For Practice Facility

It isn’t all plush and lovely for New York’s newest team. Despite their move to NYC, the Brooklyn Nets are still searching for a practice location. The search for a Brooklyn location has been going on for over a year now, as team officials turned down three potential opportunities last season. Until the team finds—or builds, as GM Billy King has hinted towards—a practice facility, Avery Johnson’s squad will continue to practice in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Via CrainsNewYork.com: “The search for a Brooklyn location has been going on for over a year now. Last year, the Nets weighed three sites in Brooklyn, according to another real estate source. But team officials decided not to pursue those opportunities because a number of key players reside in New Jersey and wanted to practice closer to home, the source said. The Nets also have a lease on the facility in East Rutherford that runs through June 2015. ‘Yes, we are looking for a practice facility location, but we will not comment on any specific site,’ a Nets spokesman said. ‘We are evaluating all options and we will do what’s best for the team.’ Last year, General Manager Billy King told reporters who follow the team that the Nets plan to build a new practice facility for the 2013-2014 season. The Nets facility in East Rutherford includes two regulation-size NBA courts; a custom-built clubhouse locker room with lounge and kitchen and a whole lot more. It also boasts a treatment center with training room, a hydrotherapy pool and whirlpool; a strength and conditioning center; and a video theater room, plus locker rooms. It also has approximately 32,000 square feet of office space and 2,000 square feet of warehouse space.’”

If they keep this up, they might have to draft Iverson

practice will get shot up. groupies would be an issue as well, haha

fyi, jigga man’s stake in the team is only 240k, less than 1% and he is always talking about owning the team?? thats not really his style to front about something. i was kinda surprised

The issue is not so much distance, it’s traffic, coupled with the fact that you have to cross a tunnel, manhattan and a bridge. A 35 min ride can turn into 2 hours if you pick the wrong time.

would they really go to these lengths to reduce the players commuting time? I would happily commute 2 hours to work, if ‘work’ was 2 hours a day for multiple millions per year!
