Donte Greene Fractures Ankle, May Not Sign With Brooklyn Nets

Donte Greene, who recently agreed to a deal with the Brooklyn Nets, fractured his ankle during a workout in Charlotte last Saturday. The injury, which will require surgery, has now jeopardized Greene’s chances of joining the Nets, because his non-guaranteed contract means the team can opt for a healthy player to fill Greene’s role rather than waiting for him to heal. Via ESPN.com: “Greene’s deal, however, fell through after he fractured his ankle during an offseason workout on Saturday, and he will be forced to undergo surgery, his agent, Chris Luchey, confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com via email. ‘Donte won’t be signed now,’ a league source confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com. It is unknown how long Greene will be out. Greene was going to have the opportunity to back up starter Gerald Wallace. ‘He’s holding up,’ Luchey told ESPNNewYork.com. ‘He’s excited about the Nets, to be honest. He had a good visit with them even after the incident in (the) Nets’ office. So he’s very optimistic and appreciates how they feel about him. We’re confident in the end it’ll all work out and eventually I believe and he believes he’ll don the Brooklyn Nets’ jersey this season.’”

smh i want to see him succeed. He can flourish with the Nets too if they use him right. Hopefully both sides compromise and a deal gets signed.

    I’d still sign him.

Never understood why the Kings wouldn’t give him playing time. Did Sacto really think John Salmons was worth developing….twice?
