Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett’s New Deals Have No-Trade Clauses

Salary site ShamSports recently updated with additional details from Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett’s three-year contract extensions. Duncan and Garnett added no-trade protection while taking pay cuts in the process, which virtually ensures that both legends with retire with their current team. TD and KG join Kobe and Dirk as the only players with no-trade clauses in the League (via CSN Philly): “Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett both took less money on their contracts this summer to help their teams, but also to gain control of their surroundings. According to Mark Deeks of Sham Sports (via ProBasketballTalk), both Duncan and Garnett received full no-trade clauses in their deals. Their deals make only four players in the NBA that have full no-trade clauses in their contracts, with Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki being the other two. Garnett signed a three-year, $34 million deal with Boston on July 3 and Duncan signed a similar three-year, $36 million extension on July 10 to stay with San Antonio.”

Enjoy these guys while you can. Soon, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Jason Kidd, Grant Hill and Tracy McGrady will all be done and there will be no stars from the late 90s left in the league.

Who will be the last great star of the 90′s (drafted 1998 or earlier) to retire? Dirk? Pierce?
