Elton Brand Thinks New Mavs Can Match Dwight Howard and Deron Williams

You can excuse Dallas Mavericks fans for not exactly jumping for joy heading into this season – a haul of Darren Collison, Chris Kaman, O.J. Mayo and Elton Brand doesn’t exactly generate the same sense of triumph that Deron Williams and Dwight Howard would have. But according to Elton Brand – who has adopted a similar stance to his boss, Mark Cuban — the new guys are just as good (collectively) as those two other superstars, who ended up elsewhere. Per the Dallas Morning News: “Brand, who openly admitted that he has something to prove this season, was asked about being part of a group of newcomers — which includes Darren Collison, Chris Kaman and O.J. Mayo — that some will expect to fill the void left after the franchise didn’t land Williams or Howard. ‘Those guys are two very big names, superstar players,’ Brand said. ‘I don’t think one player can match what they’re doing. Maybe we’ll have to do it by committee and be solid all-around team and play our roles, these new guys. You say Dwight Howard and Deron Williams, I know we as a team, with the pieces we’ve put together, I feel we could match or get close to matching what they would’ve brought. But individually, I’m not Dwight Howard any more.’”

    Ummm…no

They’ll be a tough team and possibly the #2-3 seed but not better than the Lakers.

“But individually, I’m not Dwight Howard any more” when were u? u were really good, but not howard good. at least we know that they have potent drugs in dallas

He was REALLY good at one point. Like seriously legit. But even at his prime he wasn’t on howards level athletically. But offensively skill wise, he was alot better than Dwight. Overall, dwights got him on D and athleticism.

They might not have gotten Howard or Williams but those are solid additions. As for the Mavericks fans not jumping for joy, they get no sympathy. Try being a Utah fan and working up excitement about adding Randy Foye and Marvin Williams.

Well, the Nets and Lakers will be competing for homecourt in the playoffs, and Dallas will be competing for the 6 seed…..so…..naw

I know EB was the one that said this, but I’ve got an idea for Cuban’s reality show, Shark Tank(or whatever it’s called).

How about a muzzle that translates Cuban-isms into stuff we actually want to hear?

Like when he said we’re better off without D-Will, that translates to “I enjoy a nice glass of red while I read Hunger Games” or some ish like that.

Seriously though, Dallas will be a solid team, but they can’t contend with OKC and possibly LAL(let’s see how Dwight blends in). They should be better than last year, the only problem is that OKC and LAL’s “better” was, um, better.

one great player has allways been better than a bunch of good players. you saw it when barkley went to the suns, when shaq went to the heat, when garnett went to the celtics, when chamberlain went to the lakers, (and so on…) the former team of the big dog had less success no matter how many players, even when it were good players, they got in return. there was no williams or howard deal with the mavs but it is obvious that dallas would be much better off with just only one of these guys. he cant be seriously thinking this group could make up for both superstars.

EB ~ We don’t need no sticking patches

actually brands numbers in 05/06 were better than howards best season so far (brand 26,5 per vs howard 26,0 per in 10/11) and he carried a clippers team to the playoffs. just for that they should give him smth like the nba medal of honor lol. but unfortunatelly brands supremacy was cut a little short by injuries.

thats too high.. id say 5-4 the best

  • Salty

    What about the 04 Pistons?

  • danpowers

was a very nice team. but what do they have to do with that?

  • Redd

Their team is stacked just like it was in their championship season, heck maybe even more. Who would challenge them outside the Lakers?

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

okc, clippers, san antonio, twolves, denver, memphis

  • nick

why does everyone think the wolves are going to be so good…..ridiculous, no way they will be better than, Utah and phoenix either….

  • nick

you literally named one team, one year…..seriously?

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

utah & phoenix are lottery teams.. plus both teams benefited when Rubio went down

  • Redd

No to Memphis, Twolves won’t be instantly that great NO way. They were like 28 something I think last year? Maybe I’m wrong.

Nonetheless, I don’t think any of those teams outside of OKC and Spirs are better. I forgot OKC, I spoke too soon my bad. They’ll be a 3-4 seed.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Verified Account

Twolves seemed like a lock for the 8th seed for a while last year, but when Rubio went down.. They went 5-22… Dallas would be good team.. But i don’t see em at top 4

  • Slick Ric

Dallas is my sleeper team….them beating LA or the Thunder depends on Mayo’s improvement under Rick and Kaman re-establishing himself as an all-star center.

  • spit hot fiyah

i agree with both of u,howards D gives him an edge imo
