Kevin Durant Says Workouts With LeBron James Blown ‘Out of Proportion’

Kevin Durant and LeBron James met up this summer to train — as they did last summer — and for some reason, people lost their minds this time around. According to Durant, it was no big deal at all. Per the Oklahoman: “A lot of people blew (it) out of proportion,’ the reigning three time scoring champion said. ‘It was just one day.’ Still, some had a problem with Durant recently traveling to Ohio for the second consecutive summer to train with James. Durant, though, doesn’t see the big deal. ‘I’m a competitive guy,’ Durant said. ‘I’m sure you guys have seen that in me. I just wanted to work out. That’s what it was all about. I’ll work out with anybody. I would have worked out with Kobe Bryant. I would have worked out with Carmelo (Anthony). I just wanted to work out and get better.’ This year’s visit, unlike last year’s lengthier trip that was dubbed ‘Hell Week,’ was unplanned. Durant said he took two to three weeks off following the Olympics and James reached out to him. ‘He was the first guy that called me and I said ‘Hey, why not?’ Durant said. ‘And I went out there and worked hard. So hopefully I have a good season this year.’”

Two best players in basketball working out together for one day. No big deal. They get better. Their teams get better. Fans get to watch. Everyone wins.

hard work beats talent when talent dose not work hard

  • Max

There are some people on here who like to blow this out of proportion.

OKC and MIA games better get ugly this year

  • Perry the PlatyPteranodon

Ah the beauty of media hyperbole, just goes to show the effects of yelling at the top of your lungs…
“This just in: Russel Westbrook played Madden 13 using the Giants! He clearly wants the fuck out!!!!”

  • Roscoe

No one has a problem w/ kd being friends w/ bron bron or anyone in the world 4 that matter.
the issue is that bron bron ran his @ss & OKC off the court in the finals & then kd goes onto a court w/ him outside of the olympics to train.
the fact it is not a big deal 2 kd goes right to the heart of a person’s competitve drive. you either want to win so bad that you despise ppl or u eat oranges at half time & head to the pizza palor after games. respecting your opponent goes w/ out question according to me.
Wake up kd, you made a mistake… just say you did… get pissed… and win.
& b4 everyone hates on me… realize i think kd has amazing talent. I just call it how i c it.

  • Datkid

    Steel sharpens steel.

  • Perry the PlatyPteranodon

How was playing, and practicing with a player who you consider a friend, or even rival, for that matter a mistake? Clearly KD doesn’t worship the game to the point that it makes him a freakin’ sociopath. Frankly if KD goes and gets pissed just to win, I think he, ya know, loses because wheres the fun in winning if it makes you crazy? He’s a human being first, and THEN somewhere down the line, he’s a basketball player, the human connections are worth more then the damn ‘chips.

  • roscoe

Playing and practicing w/ someone you consider a friend, or even a rival for that matter who ran ur @ss off the court in the finals is a mistake, imo. It is good to know we all agree Mr. Kevin Durant is not a “sociopath”, but your method to weaken my argument is SOFT , bring something else sunshine, no one is calling anyone a nut-job. idk that being pissed about losing in the finals makes a person crazy, is that right? Hmmm. & of course kd is a human being & 2ndly a bball player. And to say human connections are more important than chips I don’t disagree. The point is he made a mistake & is justifibly being criticized for carrying Bron bron’s back-pack in the summer. Take your “I love kd t-shirt” off and realize you are subjective about this.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Bottom line, who KD practices with is none of anybody’s business. Grown man can do what he wants to do. Same with LeBron.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Didn’t KD average 30 points on 53% shooting in those Finals? I don’t think LeBron ran him off the court. He outperformed him by playing out of his mind, but neither KD nor the Thunder have anything to be ashamed of.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

He made no mistake and he didn’t “carry Bron Bron’s back-pack this summer”. Did you not watch him lead the USA in scoring in the Olympics? The 2nd best player in basketball carries no one’s back-pack. LeBron sees him as a counterpart. They’re cool. Nothing wrong with KD practicing with him. As for human connection, are you unaware of how Magic Johnson and Larry Bird are still great friends today long after their playing days are over? Bonds are made going up against each other whether it’s in practice during the summer on in the Finals in June. The criticism is not justified at all.

  • Junior Taylor

When I think of KD I always think of a tall Prey Mantis schooling cats out there. That boy good.

  • roscoe

Imo, it is a mistake to train or practice w/ the guy who ran your team’s @ss off the floor in the finals. If you disagree, no problem, but you won’t convince me it is okay. And yes, he did carry his back pack.
Yes, I saw the olympics & the olympics is a completely different environment than the finals considering you have the best USA players playing together which not only takes pressure off each individual player, but also creates easy scoring opporunities. Additionally, the rest of the world is catching up, but Spain, Argentina, France, Lithuania, UK, and the rest are not near the level of competition the NBA is at or even close to what the level of competition is in the NBA finals in any given year. If you really want to go into the competition of the Olympics relative to the NBA competition we can, but I will smoke your argument, guaranteed.
I am very aware of the Magic & Bird bond and believe it is one of the greatest stories of their era. If you think for one second Magic & Bird were buddy-buddy in the summer practicing together your off your rocker. I know they became friends after the “Weapon” commercial as documented, but that sh*t does not mean Magic & Bird sat in a game practicing together. Are you kidding me? Bring me proof. If you want to say they are buddy-buddy today I agree, but your assumption that Bron bron/kd have the same thing that Magic/Bird had and have you are grasping to justify kd making a mistake.
Again, this is all imo, and I don’t think kd is a bad guy, at all. But my man has to learn “he is doing it all wrong”.

  • roscoe

Losing is losing brother. Enjoy that points per game and FG%. Give him a gold star, but no gold ball.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Yes. He’s doing it all wrong being the 3 time scoring champ and having his team in the Finals after only 4 years in the league. Whatever he’s doing, he must stop it. He’s headed in the wrong direction. Working with LeBron last summer was a horrible decision given that he had such a bad season leading the league in scoring and getting within 3 wins of a championship. Just awful decision making on his part.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

The Thunder lost because of Durant. He had such a terrible Finals series. He really has to make some changes in his approach to the game.

i think KD working out w Lebron will only make him better!

  • roscoe

That’s fine… don’t bring me proof of your Magic/Bird argument & duck under the covers with your avoidance & assumption I believe every aspect of his game is wrong. Your assumptions are as lame as kd carrying bron bron’s back pack.

  • LakeShow

Dunno if spell check facked you or what, but it is actually “praying mantis” lol.
Sorry I own one so I just had to speak up on their behalf :)
On another note, I agree. KD is a praying mantis lol. He use to just be a stick bug when he was a rook though.

  • roscoe

your too funny… you think all that matters is his individual stats. winning is all that matters. i don’t care if its ugly or pretty, just as long as you are the last team standing. Last year kd was not on the last team standing so yep, he had a terrible finals. Enjoy your gold star stickers.

  • The Seed

KD is a funny dude, a guy just made you cry on national TV to your mom and took your cookies if front of the world. WOW and now you want to workout with him. Most people on slam would not train or even talk to that guy.

  • jeff

lol youre dumb, if he was really competitive he would have refused to play in the olympics because lebron was on the team, then hired a hitman to kill lebron cuz he hates him so much LOL . Who cares he’s getting better 90% of the games wont be against miami, its not like lebron has a psychological advantage because he knows how much kd can lift. You dont have to hate someone to play god basketball and no matter how angry kd is hes not gunna be stronger than bron. He prolly hits jumpers better when hes happy anyway, you dont know anything about his competitive nature you armchair athlete

  • gg

Working out no training together. Trade secrets are irrelevant.

  • gg

    not*

SMH @ Durant naivety ….Dude, the game is more than just physically going out there and playing, ITS MENTAL AS WELL and you’re giving up a mental edge. That’s something these dudes dont get today. I’m not even old but sometime these dudes make me sick at how soft they are. You can vote my comment down now…….

  • Slick Ric

I always take up for the players when people say they don’t watch the nba anymore because these guys soft nowadays…..but now I’m starting to change my position.

  • pposse

    thank you

  • Anon

Most people on Slam are also frontin on the internet behind screennames

  • pposse

a wise man once said you gotta keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. To me this seems like Lebron is treating KD like his ‘enemy’ while KD is treating Lebron like his ‘friend’

  • charles

tell people to f— off u r grown and u do what u please and do not have to answer to anyone

  • ash

Miami didn’t run Durant off the court every game was just about close except for the game 6. Also, james harden didn’t have a good series. There is only so much durant can do. Comeveryone knows well I do durant can’t guard lebron, giving up too much weight. Blame that part on the coaching staff. Just another story to keep fans interest.

  • Jeremy

Why not work out with the MVP and champion? Wouldn’t any competetor want to go up against that? How is that a bad thing? If anything, he’d go at Lebron harder cause he probably wants what Lebron has/thinks he deserves it.
Should a player of Durant’s caliber work out against someone like Brian Scalabrine? Only if Brian can get him better. You can work out with anyone, or on your own. I think it’s best to work out with your peers (or someone better than you)/or/and by yourself.

  • Eek Giggles

If training with Lebron is gone produce the same results as Game 2 of the finals then everybody has a reason to be worried. MJ never trained with any of the Bad Boys when he went and got his championships. Weak mental player are always got to bow to better better prepared mentally players.

The training should produce for OKC not the Heat if he still wants to justify reason behind the training.

It only went to game 5
