Nets Owner Mikhail Prokhorov Leaving Business to Focus on Politics Full-Time

The Brooklyn Nets’ billionaire owner probably has lots of business endeavors he could spend his time tending to, but the NY Post reports he’ll be leaving those aside to focus full-time on his political career. No word on what that means for his interest in the Nets… More details, via the Post: “Billionaire Brooklyn Nets owner and former Russian presidential candidate Mikhail Prokhorov said Saturday he’s leaving business to focus full-time on politics, returning to the political arena after remaining silent through a five-month Kremlin crackdown on the opposition. The 47-year-old Prokhorov, who is believed to be worth about $13 billion, finished third in Russia’s presidential election in March amid speculation that his candidacy was orchestrated by the Kremlin. Though he denied the claim, he was nowhere to be seen as the government launched a crackdown on the opposition this spring, arresting activists and introducing new harsh legislation. Prokhorov appeared Saturday at the first conference of the party he set up several months ago, announcing that he would put his money in a trust fund and let his partners at the investment vehicle Onexim run the shop.”

We are nearing a cold war remix. With Russia’s arms dealing, oil production, and the US economy’s steady decline, the Ruskies are bound to start thinking that crazy stuff again. Check their relationship with Iran, and Iran’s hatred of Israel (our ally). Yikes.

Sorry for the non-basketball post, my bad

he will still watch the money pile up, so this makes sense.. tho i never understood why billionaires (in Europe) try to go into politics after they already have everything they could ever wish for – in the end, their names just get thrown into dirt

well the truth is US is contrbuting to this cold war atmosphere as well. NATO(US) and Russia had an agreement, that russia would pull its troops out of eastern bloc and NATO would not try to integrate these territories.Well guess what-NATO extended its influence right up to the russian borders(missle shield) and they even want to incorporate Georgia I wonder russia is mad. moreover,US is trying to penetrate traditional russian spheres of influence (syria) while russia is not (at least yet). for 20 years russia was trying to be a friend of the West but a kind of friend that’ll get screwed over by those who it tries to befriend. Lybia was a wake up call for russia, and it is no longer having it, which is only fair, but given the size of these powers extremely dangerous to rest of the world as well.

Wow, great observations there. Really informed and in-depth. Thanks.
