Sacramento Kings to Rename Arena ‘Sleep Train’

As expected, the mattress retailer Sleep Train has won the naming rights to the building where the Sacramento Kings play. Reports the Sac Bee: “The Sacramento Kings and Sleep Train Mattress Centers today announced they have signed a multi-year deal to rename the team’s Natomas arena for the mattress chain. Dale Carlsen, Sleep Train founder and CEO, said his company, based in Rocklin, has signed a five-year deal with the Kings. ‘We’re hopeful they’ll be here a long time,’ Carlsen said of the team. The deal includes an option to end the contract or renegotiate it if the Kings decide to leave Sacramento during the five years, Carlsen said. He and Kings officials refused to discuss dollar amounts. The name change will occur in November. The basketball team had been scouring for a replacement sponsor since the Power Balance bracelet company went bankrupt, failing to fulfill the terms of its year-old agreement with the team.”

*Insert lame joke about the team putting people to sleep with their lousy play*

this team is really wierd. they have 3 point guards that are all shoot first: brooks, jimmer, thomas. and 3 2 guards that shoot first ask question later: thornton, salmons, evans(if we call him 2) and cousins that wants touches and will probably be grumpy if he doesn’t get them. just saw shoot three 3s in the first quarter in their game against the suns. at least thomas robinson is looking pretty good.

good points; trades are inevitable w/ SAC. i think you sort uncovered their front office strategy which is to acquire talent, filter thru it, even if it does not match well, and make decisions on who to keep. who is the 1st guy out the door?

It’s crazy, this team has SO much talent, just none of it fits together. Moves to be made:
Bulls get: Tyreke Evans, Aaron Brooks, John Salmons
Kings get: Luol Deng, Taj Gibson, 2013 1st Round Pick
Thunder get: Jason Thompson, Chuck Hayes, 2013 2nd Round Pick, 2014 2nd Round Pick
    Kings get: Kendrick Perkins
Sign Michael Redd to 2 year, $4.5 mil deal
Starting 5: Thomas, Thornton, Deng, Robinson, Cousins
Bench: Jimmer, Redd, Outlaw, Taj, Perkins

So how many times has that arena been renamed now? Seems like anyone with 20 bucks can buy the rights from the Kings.

  • Caboose

Only 3 times… Arco Arena, Power Balance Pavillion, and now Sleep Train whatever. I laughed when Power Balance bought the name; it seemed fitting that a company that made something that doesn’t do anything sponsor the team that does the same.

I don’t think the Thunder would accept that trade and without Perkins they wouldn’t make the playoffs with that roster. I like the trade to the Bulls though, both teams benefit equally.

  • justin05

I think Tyreke is their most valuable player they are willing to trade. A frontline of T-Rob and Cousins could be really scary.

  • Caboose

I thought the Thunder would because they sat Perkins often in the playoffs and they hate his contract. It lets Ibaka or Collison play 5 and frees up more time for Perry. Chuck is always an amazing post defender off the bench. As for Bulls, most definitely. Take some offensive pressure off Rose.

i am interested 2 c what happens w/ SAC… they no doubtly have talent & a good trade might bring them back from the dark nba depths.
