Blake Griffin Reportedly Signed With Jordan Brand

Jordan Brand’s latest acquisition, according to published reports, is Blake Griffin (who was already a Nike endorser.) Per CBS Sports: “Blake Griffin made his 2012-13 debut for the Clippers Wednesday night sporting a sharp pair of cobalt blue Jordans, and not without good reason. The Clippers’ high-flying forward has become the latest NBA star to join Nike’s Jordan Brand, an industry source said. An announcement is expected soon on the new endorsement deal for the Clippers’ two-time All-Star. [...] Griffin joins teammate Chris Paul in the Jordan Brand stable, which also includes such NBA stars as Carmelo Anthony, Ray Allen and Joe Johnson. Earlier this month, Nike announced that it had signed Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook to the Jordan Brand.”

Supreme athletic youth injection for the Jordan Brand. Westbrook + Griffin = Huge popularity boost for Jordan Brand (and the brand’s already popular to begin with).

Jb fell of so hard i almost feel bad for the players that sign with them. i would put a stipulation in the contract that i would only wear retros

Two good signings for Jordan Brand to replace D-Wade.

  • Jake

At least now they have players to create signature shoes for. D-Wade is great, but not really a player that is very marketable. They tried, it didn’t work.

I guess no more Hyperdunks for Blake.

  • Dymez

I remember back in the day when a player signed a shoe deal, he stuck with that company for his whole career. Now it’s like free agency (even though Jordan is a subsidiary of Nike) in the sneaker world. Every year somebody is changing teams.

  • robb

the designs may not be that good, but their quality and performance are great.

  • Jer Dawg

it’s BLAND Jordan. With it’s design it’s become just that: BLAND.

  • R32

Signature shoes and retros. Jordan should drop all that in-between garbage.

Back in the day? Like who?

i remember for a while Roy Jones Jr was on team Jordan. they need to design a pair of looking shoes, everything looks bland

  • Dymez

Seriously? Jordan, Magic, Bird, ‘Nique, Ewing, Admiral, Barkley, Pippen, Penny, GP, Iverson, Duncan… I can go on and on…. Dr. J, to this day, is STILL with Converse — never mind just his career — he’s with them for life.

Meanwhile, somebody like D-Wade has had 3 different names as the title of his shoe for the past 3 calendar years.

  • brad09′

agreed I would have a hell of a time wearing anything but retros. I really cant remember the last pair of jordans not 1-23 that I liked alittle.

  • roscoe

i watched bg32′s kia ad where he points out his poor FT shooting & I have 2 say anyone who embraces their weakness is taking the 1st step to overcoming it.

  • roscoe

does anyone believe dwade’s harsh lockout msgs directed at the
commish & mj had something to do w/ being let go by Jbrand? nba-ers should take note that crossing those who sign your checks has effects.

  • 23

He wasn’t let go. He just wanted to do his own thing.

  • aicomeback

i wouldnt wear anything jordan gave me to play in the retros quality is mostly trash now i dont want my 3s to start chipping all over the floor, or my 13s to look i used it as a kickball.etc. the only good shoe to ball in is 11s or 5s imo or 17s those were a great shoe

Jordan wore converse in college, Duncan was with Nike during his first several nba seasons before going to Adidas. Garnett switched from nike to And 1 to Adidas to Anta. Ewing switched from Adidas to his own brand Ewing Athletics. Grant hill started with fila. Shaq was with reebok, Starter and LiNing. Kobe was with Adidas before Nike(drafted the same year as Iverson back in the day). Penny Hardaway wore some Jordans for a couple games. Shoe contracts are often temporary. Players have always switched brands.

  • 23

Funny because he became the face of those. I wonder who is gonna carry that model now. Iguodala would be perfect imo.

  • 23

Dwade made ppl go out and buy converse. The reason his Jordan’s didn’t do well is because they were too generic. No personality.

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

I think Kyrie has been reppin them pretty hard.

  • ENDS

Penny wearing jordans=nikes, and jordan wearing converse BEFORE he signed a deal with Nike is a really bad example.

  • ends

Robb cant deny it. He’s a straight ridah…

What? So what if Jordan wore Converse at UNC. You think players can sign shoe deals in college? Jordan’s first and only deal was with
Nike. Period. Penny’s first and only deal was with Nike, also. Jordan
wasn’t even its own brand at the time, it was Nike. Jordan wore
Penny’s for a couple of his games as well. Ewing’s Adidas deal was a
joke. What he spent, like 2 years with them? Everybody knew this,
that’s why his agent quickly got his contract terminated with them and
he started his own brand. I thought that was just a well-known thing.
Sorry for pushing his short stint with Adidas to the side.

I didn’t mention KG, Kobe, G. Hill, and Shaq. And for obvious and
not-so-apparent reasons. KG was all-bent on friendship and loyalty —
he left Nike for And1 because of ex-bestfriend, Marbury. When Marbury split the Wolves for Jersey, KG left and stayed with Adidas long term, until this recent shoe brand switch trend that I’m talking about. Grant Hill never left FILA, he had 2 deals with them until his contract ran out. Then came the slam from Barkley, and he never renegotiated. Kobe? Colorado. Next. Shaq always chases the big deal. Him signing with Li-Ning is also apart of this brand movement going on now. I’m talking about pre-2000.

  • Dymez

Why did I show up as “Guest?” Disqus is acting up.

  • 23

They still switched brands dude. You mentioned Duncan and Ewing. They both switched brands

we’re saying the same thing Bozo. Mike only played in Nikes, Penny Only Played in Nikes.

In Like around 98 C-Webb started this whole shoe free angency trend jumping from Nike to Fila to converse to a short stint with Addidas and then those horrible shinny dada shoes

    now everybody jumps ship.

and of course I know that no college players have “shoe deal”…

    *Cough Lebron hummer Cough*

  • 23

True, but the name to me would seem to go.better with a PRIME TIME sinker. But kyries kicks are sick. I can’t deny that.

Heck if not buy, then seriously contemplate buying… who looked at converse before or after DWade? He made converse acceptable. Nobody flinched at his JB sigs.
