Kobe Bryant Wants to Play Until He is 40 Years Old

There has been much noise of late from Kobe Bryant about retiring in two seasons when his current deal with the Los Angeles Lakers expires. However, in an interview with CNN Turkey (which was translated by TrendBasket), Bean says that he might stick around until he’s 40 (which isn’t for another six years.) From Silver Screen and Roll: “My aim is to play until I’m 40 years old and I believe I can do that. This year, we added very good players to our squad. Steve Nash, Dwight Howard will make us stronger. Right now, things are not going very well but I believe it’ll get better soon … During the lock-out, I had offers from Turkey and other countries. Beşiktaş was interested in me and they had talks with my agent, but I want to use the lock-out time to recover from my injuries and spend more time with my family so I turned the offers down. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll play basketball in Turkey.”

After D12 refuses to re-sign with L.A., Horry Jr will be happy to retire.

Won’t be playing until he’s 40 in this league. Maybe in Italy or Turkey. He said last year that he wouldn’t be the guy averaging 18 or 19 a game. His efficiency has been going down which is the sign that his run is almost over. Let it go after the next 2 seasons Kobe.

agreed…I mean ill miss him but if I see a Kobe that’s anywhere at all close to T-Mac and Vince Carter at the end of their careers….I just don’t even wanna talk about it

I’d love to see him until he’s 40 but his body is too banged up. I don’t want to see him being a cartoon of the great player he still is.

Just a couple things…has no one seen how efficiently he is playing this year? he’s shooting over 50% from the field, shooting less than 20 shots per contest on average through 3 games. Secondly, he never said his leg was falling off, he said his foot felt like it was falling off…it’s bruised. 3rd thing, he is not falling apart, he gets hurt once a year. Andrew Bynum is falling apart, Vince Carter is falling apart. Kobe Bryant is not falling apart.

    He’s shooting near 60%.
But it’s 4 games, too small a sample size to get excited.
I do think he will end the year at 47+% though. And the less than 20 shots is great. Now it’s time to win.

The only reason he would stay in the NBA until forty would be to lay claim to certain records which wouldn’t otherwise be attainable.

I believe he means that while he will play professionally until he’s forty, it will not necessarily be in the League.

if kobe ties or passes mj in rings and passes him in scoring over the next 2 seasons then he might retire, I’ve always thought kobe was too bad and would go until he could damn his averages let his career numbers speak for themselves

He might tie MJ in rings but will never get to 3 Finals MVPs

I don’t see him playing in Turkey. If Grant Hill can play at 40, so can Kobe

  • 23

    Correction: Vince Carter FELL APART

  • 23

If he hits all the big time shots in the finals he could pick up another finals MVP
