LeBron James Doesn’t Think Mike Brown Got a ‘Fair Shake’

While the Lakers scramble to find a new head coach, some are still questioning why they fired Mike Brown just five games into the season—including LeBron James, who played under Brown in Cleveland. ESPN reports the Miami superstar doesn’t believe Brown should’ve been let go: “As the Los Angeles Lakers move forward in a high-profile search for their next coach, count LeBron James among those who took exception to how matters went down with Mike Brown. James doesn’t believe his former coach in Cleveland ever got a ‘fair shake’ in Los Angeles and was stunned when he learned Brown was fired by the Lakers on Friday after their 1-4 start to the season. James played five years for Brown with the Cavaliers before Brown was fired by Cleveland after the 2009-10 season, just weeks before James departed in free agency to sign with Miami. ‘I think it’s unfortunate,’ James said Friday after the Heat’s win in Atlanta against the Hawks. ‘I just don’t think he got a fair shake, honestly. With the shortened season last year, and five games into this year, he didn’t really get a full season.’ Brown was hired by the Lakers before the NBA lockout last season, which condensed the regular-season schedule to 66 games. The Lakers were eliminated in the Western Conference semifinals by Oklahoma City, who eventually lost to Miami in the NBA Finals to give James the championship he never won with Brown in Cleveland.”

    oh, the irony…

  • Caribbeancop

    Amen,well said!

  • Hawk910

Lebron forgets him n his crew got mike brown fired with all his bullshit.

  • underdog

LeBron is right. After 5 games, really?

  • Conor

Says the man who ensured that Brown was relieved from his last post. James is just upset that LA is getting Jackson or someone much more competent than Brown, which will unify them more organically.

    Lebron lovers annonomous

  • RKJ92

LOL Zogs! in the beggining of the video “I think he’s lost” poor Mike Brown just didnt know what to do with himself after getting fired.. I cant believe he just crawled down a beach on all fours and sat there in his own misery… looks like he took this pretty hard..

  • RKJ92

    EAT A DICK

Firing Brown after 5 games wasn’t a classy move by LA, he may have led them to a terrible start but I think he deserved a bit more than 5 games to prove his worth to the organization. LeBron is right, but he should also remember he got Brown fired in Cleveland for much less.

  • Lloyd

Not a big Lebron fan, but everyone complains how bad Mike Brown is and how incompetent a coach he is, but Lebron did well under him for 5 years with not much support teammate wise either. Definitely highlights how incredible a player Lebron is.

  • robb

Lebron’s right. It’s unfair for a mediocre coach to be hired after Phil Jackson and expect him to deliver. You can Blame Jimmy boy for that.

  • nick

he had last year’s all star roster to prove that…. and 8 preseason games :-/

  • nick

Lebron is just mad cause now he knows there is no chance for the heat…. if mike brown was coaching the heat had it in the bag…

  • Atlanta Zone 6

You forgetting he was the coach last season right????

    remember Bynum’s 3 pointer

  • Vince

You can’t just throw a bunch of new players together in one season and hope the coach can figure out chemistry. The Lakers bench is absolute crap and Nash and Howard were both injured for most the preseason/beginning of the season. Poor coaching may be a factor, but it definitely isn’t the whole story.

after reaching the summit and failing, who is suppose to get the blame, you ever seen players getting fired?

  • http://www.facebook.com/shooting.guard.319 Shooting Guard

well, magic jonson said it best; this is LA, they don’t give fair shakes in LA

but as a heat fan i’m happy, because the lakers are still beatable

  • underdog

Well, the roster changed since the last season quite a bit, don’t you think?

  • flight

New teams take time, with a lockout shortened season last season (which was an improvement on Phil Jacksons last season) and nash out this year, brown just did not get a fair opportunity, People realize miami were 9 – 8 in 2011 right?

LeBron made Mike Brown Coach of the Year. He got him to the Finals. He made that putrid offense work basically by himself. Let’s face facts. Regardless of who they had as coach, LeBron was leaving because of the players they had there and the fact that none of his fellow free agents were going to join him in Cleveland.

The Worst Thing LeBron ever Did was Make us Basketball fans Think That Mike Brown is A Good Coach. That’s what I’m most mad about with LBJ. Mike Brown is a Great Assistant Coach. End. Of. Story.

  • SoCo Nes

that only proves that with that much talent on the court, their record should be better..

  • SoCo Nes

I’m just glad they got rid of Brown now..saw last season he had a four/five year Contract and almost lost my mind..you don’t bench Kobe..ever..that’s when I knew he had to go.

For all those that want to defend him..remember, Lebronda was playing with him how many years and how many titles did he get under Brown’s coaching? If you can’t help Lebronda get a ring, you certainly cannot help Kobe.

It’s the Lakers..step up your coaching

IMO Lebron didn’t really cause Brown’s demise in Cleveland. I mean look at what he did with a lot of solid role players (at best). Big Z was an exception he was really great at times injuries hampered him, Larry Hughes seemed to always be right on the cusp of being an all star but couldn’t quite get over the hill. When a request for help was made a Shaq at the tail end of his career, Antwan Jamison who was in transition of becoming what he is in LA now a 6’10 spot up shooter who couldn’t bang down low or draw major attention away from LBJ. Mo Williams who was/is not a bad player just as long as you don’t ask to defend anything that moves. Mike Brown was able to do create some great defensive schemes and get players to buy into that system, but lets be honest Lebron might as well of had the chalk board when a play needed to be drawn on offense. He orchestrated that offense got everyone involved and made them better some he made All-stars. It was not his fault that the front office and Brown couldn’t get better personnel, better utilize what he had. I mean they got to the finals with that roster led the league in wins c’mon now

  • BuenoWayno1

As soon as he signed that contract he was a dead man walking….

Mike Brown as an assistant coach for a team with an already good head coach for offense would be pretty scary though, he reminds me of Doc Rivers just not a great offensive mind

That sounds theoretically right, but things in real life don’t necessarily work exactly like in NBA 2k13. I still think dude didn’t get a “fair shake”, but I understand this team needs to win NOW. So let’s see what D’Antoni can do.

Brown just can’t get a fair shake. Lebron wanted him gone, so in order to try to appease James Cleveland fired Mike. Now LA has fired him after four games into the season. Lebron should speak up for Mike!

If there is anyone out there who is a basketball fan,or player who follows the game that wont admit that the laker players pulled a mutiny on Brown. He is one hell of a good coach. He took James and a bunch of rag tags to the finals.Kobe didn’t want him from the go last year. This year the lakers played like they wanted Brown out of there. That’s what happened.Afterwards they routed the warriors and won their second game convincingly.Kobe has too much clout with the Organization. It going to backfire,or he will get traded.

LeBron needs to keep his mouth shut … he was the reason Mike Brown was fired from Cleveland … he evidently had a fair shake in Cleveland and didn’t deliver and LeBron ended up leaving Cleveland … so he is the last one to say anything …

LeBron you dissed MB & Cleveland when u took your talents to Miami…you’re such a loser…MB is more a man than you’ll ever be…
