Los Angeles Lakers Said to Be Interested in Signing Raja Bell

With his former coach (Mike D’Antoni) and former nemesis (Kobe Bryant) being big fans of his, Raja Bell could end up in Los Angeles. The Lakers, you might recall, have flirted with the idea of signing the veteran guard in the past. They’re reportedly interested in exploring the possibility once more, according to Yahoo! Sports: “With a $100 million payroll and $30 million in additional luxury-tax expenditures, the Lakers are unsure about cutting a player, paying his salary and then paying the additional salary ($1.3 million) and tax that it would take to sign Bell. The Lakers have tried unsuccessfully for several weeks to trade bench players to create roster space. ‘The biggest question is the taking on of more money,’ a league source said. Bell is still under contract with the Jazz, but the team has allowed him to stay away this season until he finds a suitable offer and the two sides can execute a buyout. Once Bell has secured a contract for the veteran’s minimum elsewhere, the Jazz will buy out the difference on the remaining $3.5 million on his 2012-13 contract. Bell wouldn’t lose any money between the buyout and joining a new team. Utah has allowed Bell and his agent, Herb Rudoy, to search out deals elsewhere. The Chicago Bulls have shown some interest in Bell, too, but haven’t made any offers, league sources said. [...] Bell has been working out in his hometown of Miami, preparing for his chance to return to the league.”

They need a better bench, Bell is good, but will he give the spark?

Has anybody else noticed that a majority of guys that can some what contain Kobe always ends up with the Lakers? (Ron Artest, Matt Barnes) now maybe Bell?

    Get him!

  • Redd

Pretty surprised he hasn’t been picked up.

Please cut finally Ebanks and Duhon and get him and Pietrus. Defense and 3 Pt shooting from the bench. Would love to see it happen

Let’s get another 35 year old!

  • OTB

The issue is money. They have to cut someone plus pay their salary and then add on Bell’s salary on top of that. Not sure if management wants to add to their huge payroll.

not sure that i’d want to give up on Ebanks yet, while Pietrus and Bell should be upgrades, they’re getting up there in age.

  • justin05

Agreed. Bell would be a good pick up for obvious reasons but Ebanks is still developing. Pietrus is very inconsistent and we need passionate players on our roster.

The big boys upstairs are doing their jobs right then huh?

ebanks is talented, but something seems to be missing… considering the dh12 trade did not see ebanks traded away tells me he is gaining a reputation or something.

    ”Raja who?”

  • patrick

exactly..why? is raja bell even that good? i think gilbert arenas is better than him..or flip murray

  • patrick

yes, duhon is old and slow..just look at the way he moves around..pietrus is a lot better..different positions tho…lol derek fisher is still a free agent..if he’s so good why don’t the lakers resign him lol? anyways, i think darius morris will be better than duhon in 10 more games, and better than blake in 30 more games
