Derek Fisher Asks For Release From Mavs; Team Calls Up Chris Douglas-Roberts

Is this the end for Derek Fisher? The point guard has asked for a release from the Dallas Mavericks, claiming that he’d like to be closer to his family, the Star-Telegram reports: “Stressing the need to be closer to his family in Los Angeles, Derek Fisher asked the Dallas Mavericks to release him from his contract on Saturday, and they promptly obliged. Fisher, 38, signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract with the Mavs on Nov. 29. But after less than a month with Dallas, he apparently could no longer accept being away from his family. Fisher released a statement about his request to be waived, saying: ‘In Tuesday’s game against Philadelphia, I suffered an injury to my patellar tendon. The recovery time will be approximately two weeks. With this news and the difficulty I have been having being away from my family, I have asked the organization to waive me so I can return home.’ … The Mavs, who visit the San Antonio Spurs tonight, will promote Chris Douglas-Roberts from the Texas Legends of the D-League to take Fisher’s roster spot.”

signed on nov. 29th, and already asking to be released. and why? because he “misses his family”. hey fish, that might of been something you should of thought about before committing to the team. what a joke. there a tons of guys out there working jobs that take them away from their families, and they don’t quit. and they sure as hell don’t make 1.1 mil. icing on the cake, this guy represented the player’s union. setting a great example fish! keep up the good work…

    He’s joining the Lakers again!

If CDR turns out to be like Gerald Green, I will have nothing but HATE for Mike Brown who let both players go after they were signed to SL & TC deals for the LakeShow.

  • spit hot fiyah

why sign in the first place? i could understand if he was being benched or just played terrible, but was starting and playing allright

  • Jay Cutler

Looks like he’s coming back to the Lakers. Utah heard this before

  • Max

    To the Lakers.
    Or Clippers.

he had a pretty legit reason in Utah. Although, I don’t think he should have played for the lakers after asking to be released.

You want to wait 7 yrs for a player to turn out like Gerald Green? Because that’s how long it took Gerald Green to turn out.

These laker n****s are lame Hollywood got em so spoiled they can’t survive without Kobe Odom is done Gasol acts like he’s suicidal and can’t perform when the possibility of him getting dealt happens every month and Fisher acting like a b***h family my a** have some professionalism the Lakers breed these spoiled pampered whiny cats and Kobe is the posterchild

  • Reece

Still, I think CDR is a hell of a lot better for the Lakers than letting Darius Johnson-Odom toil away in the D-League.

  • Ron

Hey pal, odom is ballin out for LAC so is barnes, take your retard act elsewhere

Why are holiday themed reese’s so much better than the regular reese’s cups?

  • Michelle

If he is going back to the Lakers that is news to all Laker fans who want him back on there. Jim Buss is an ass and is ruining the team with getting rid of the players who have helped the team win championships which include Derek. If Jim is having a change of heart and is thinking of bringing Derek back then I am all for it but i don’t see it happening. Also with Derek and OKC he did nothing wrong. Derek was signed with them for the rest of the season because their back up point guard was injured. The injured guy was healed and Derek contract ended so he became a free agent. Derek is injured right now and cannot play. He wants to be with his family and who can blame him. If he can’t play why stay in Dallas.

3 Pts on 37% is balling in what world FOH geek

Maybe he should retire from all this and so he can be with his family more. Find something else to do.

  • JM

You can’t keep players forever just because they helped you win chips in the past. He was playing well below par for a staring point guard so they traded him. By your logic Jim should bring Shaq out of retirement just because he helped the Lakers win three chips in the past.

  • Patrick

Fisher sucks. CDR is way better imo. CDR has been kicking ass in the D LeaguE

  • hangitupfish2

the last thing Lakers need is another point guard who can’t play defense. no thanks Fish.
