Dwight Howard Remains Optimistic Despite the Lakers’ Struggles

The Utah Jazz handed the Los Angeles Lakers their latest humiliating loss last night, exposing their terrible defense in the process. Dwight Howard, who has repeatedly voiced his displeasure at his teammates’ inability to help him out defensively — maintains an air of positivity. From the LA Times: “At this point, what is there left to say? The Lakers are losing at home and on the road with the same regularity, a 117-110 defeat against the Utah Jazz on Sunday night at Staples Center the latest in a season full of them. A team that began the season with NBA Finals-or-bust aspirations has perfected the second part of that equation, falling to three games below .500 for the second time. The last time it happened, after a previous loss to Utah, the Lakers fired their coach. Mike D’Antoni is (presumably) safe for now, though not much has changed over the last month. Kobe Bryant is still scoring at a high rate, the guard getting 34 points on nine-for-24 shooting. Not that it’s making any difference for the Lakers on the other end of the court. The Jazz dominated the Lakers both inside — outscoring them, 54-34, in the paint — and in transition, posting a 19-4 advantage in fastbreak points. ‘We just have to do a better job defensively,’ Bryant said. ‘Offensively, we’re OK.’ [...] Dwight Howard seemed visibly frustrated, his teammates repeatedly failing to rotate properly on defense. ‘He should be,’ Bryant said. ‘He’s covering a lot of ground for guys.’ Said Howard: ‘I’ve just got to continue to play. I’ve just got to make sure I don’t show my frustration that much and just continue to play.’ [...] ‘I just don’t think we have a gut-checking moment yet,’ Mike D’Antoni said. ‘At some point, we’re going have to draw a line in the sand and that’s it, you’ve got to fight … Somehow, we’ve got to play tougher.’ [...] ‘This is a time where a lot of teams might fold or might break up and stop trusting each other,’ Howard said, ‘but for us to win a championship we have to stay focused and stay together. It’s a long process and a long season and if we do that we’ll be playing better come June.’”

ahaha where is the 73-9 or the 72-10 MWP?

  • spit hot fiyah

i’ll say it again, utah is sneaky entartaining to watch. favors is a boss of the bench eventhough he is hurt right now. decisions decisions to make for the front office

  • JML-G

ofc Goofy Howard remains optimistic – thats what his character been doing since the 30s.. bet he did a good prank on some teamate once again after last nights loss

  • shockexchange

D12′s so optimistic that he still has not re-signed with L.A. (D12 voice) “Hello Brooklyn”

  • shutup

Kobe scoring at a high rate has never been the formula for success in LA. Howard cannot replace Bynum and Gasol by himself, is this clear enough evidence that Gasol playing well is more important to the Laker’s overall success than Kobe scoring more?

  • Caboose

Kobe: 9-24. Dwight: 5-10. Think that’ll ever be a formula for success? In other news, Duhon has been balling lately…

  • shockexchange

12 of Horry Jr’s points came on FT’s (12-14). Could you imagine his shooting % if the refs didn’t bail him out so much?

  • Redd

It’d be crazy if he entered free agency after having praised LA so much.

  • Redd

    LA is so funny

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

    amen

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

    they broke as a joke

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

cmon you can’t tell me you’d be surprised

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

hes a damn fool. musta not took his MED’s that day

  • TheTruth

Can you imagine his shooting % if he didn’t get dumped the ball so much with 7 seconds or left on the shot clock. The Horry Jr jokes are getting stale by the way…. I yawn every time I read one.

  • Redd

It’s odd, because yeah it’s definitely a red flag that he hasn’t signed with them yet but he was talking about LA as though this was his last destination.

Pau gasol for Biyombo and Gerald henderson !
    nash comes back
    Championship…

  • DirkDiggler

    No

  • tim

    I still laugh.

  • shockexchange

The Shock Exchange thinks It’s odd, because yeah it’s definitely a red flag how guys sometimes tell women “how much they love them” but still haven’t put a ring on it but be talking about how “she’s the one.” D12′s a playa for reeaall.

  • Redd

LOL, shock I can’t even respond to you, it’s hard.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

he’s too much of a sensitive person and cautious. he’ll never keep it real. he beats around the bush too much

the Heat started 9-12 2 years ago….PLEASE everybody just calm down and give them a few months to gel.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

this is a horrible trade…The Lakers could get a LOT more

  • http://www.facebook.com/shooting.guard.319 Shooting Guard

he’s talking championship that’s definetly optimistic

  • http://www.facebook.com/shooting.guard.319 Shooting Guard

yea, but the heat were hated by everyone, lakers are still loved they better pick it up soon

  • http://www.facebook.com/shooting.guard.319 Shooting Guard

and why is kobe’s 9 for 24 being praised?

  • Adam Contreras

Your Nets rejected him because they thought Lopez was better then Howard. Or was it Jay Z decision?

  • Adam Contreras

Chris Duhon is a joke who shouldn’t be playing in the NBA. No wounder the Bulls got rid of him.

  • http://www.facebook.com/victordocarmo Victor Do Carmo

    That’s All…perfect! I agree!

  • shockexchange

There was so much going on with D12 in Orlando that it’s hard to keep up with it all. Orlando accused Brooklyn of tampering with D12 when he was signed with the Magic so they refused to send him to Brooklyn. The Nets wanted D12 (who wouldn’t) but the decision not to send him there was personal, not business.

  • Mike From Spain

Please let the current Lakers funk last until they play the Timberwolves… They can win it all later but please give me a couple wins against LA :D

  • shockexchange

You’ve just “outshocked” the Shock Exchange! I’m weak from laughing so hard.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

    ur welcome. sanchez, out

  • http://www.facebook.com/koombuy.pride Koombuy Pride

Those are two players that if you watch they play hard all game. Biyombo defends every shot and henderson wants to be a star but plays like he’s about to get cut. It would help the chemistry a lot

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

I’m not saying they are garbage…I’m saying the Lakers could get a lot more. please tell me if you were the Lakers you would prefer a package around Derrick WIlliams, or Andrea Bargnani, or Ryan Anderson or Josh Smith.
