Kevin Durant Calls Kobe Bryant an ‘Old Fart’

With the Los Angeles Lakers are in OKC to take on the Thunder tonight, Kevin Durant was asked about Kobe Bryant’s historical place in the NBA. KD paid tribute to Bean’s incredible career, while taking a playful jab at his advanced age. Per the Oklahoman: “Bryant joined the 30,000-point club during a victory Wednesday night at New Orleans and stands No. 5 on the NBA all-time scoring list with 30,016 points. As Bryant continues to climb the career charts, former and current NBA players continually are asked to rank him on the all-time list of greats. Thunder All-Star and three-time scoring champ Kevin Durant remembers watching Michael Jordan finish his career with the Washington Wizards from 2001-03 and barely remembers the final world championship Jordan won with the Chicago Bulls in 1997-98. ‘I didn’t really get to see a lot of Jordan in his prime,’ said Durant, who then playfully took a jab at Bryant. ‘But seeing Kobe, I know he’s an old fart.’ Durant teamed with Bryant to win a gold medal with Team USA last summer at the Olympic Games in London. ‘Since I was about 8 years old, I’ve watched him dominate,’ Durant said of Bryant. ‘Every year he’s been in the league, he’s been a joy to watch and it was just an honor and a blessing to play on his team this summer in the Olympics. To get 30,000 points, man … it’s just an unbelievable accomplishment. It’s good to say you played in a game with a great player, probably the best player in my era that I’ve ever seen. It’s great to have somebody to kind of aim to and look up to and just compete against on a high level. I’m looking forward to playing against him (Friday). It’s going to be fun.’”

If he gets an even killer instinct than the one he has now, he’ll be better than the Mamba. And it actually hurts to say that, since I’ve been a Mamba fan since I was a young’n.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

KD called him old at the All-Star Game in LA 2 seasons ago too. Good fun. I think Kobe knows that Durant is coming for him as far as being the best scorer since Jordan. Can’t beat being 6’10 and having a 7 foot plus wingspan. KD doesn’t have the advantage of having a player like Shaq with him like Kobe did. But he’ll win a few championships if OKC keeps he and Westbrook together and gets an inside scorer at some point.

But yeah, I’m looking forward to the playoffs, hopefully these two teams meet then. Tonight though, OKC should win, the Lakers are a mess right now.

  • scoobydog

kd will most likely pass up kobe in scoring but i just cant see this kid ever winning a ship

  • Dymez

I’ll go out on a limb and say Kevin Durant will be the all-time leading scorer when it’s all said and done.

  • Marcnificent

i dont think anyone on here realizes just how far ahead Jabbar is on everyone….I dont see anyone catching that record anytime soon…On a sidenote its totally amazes me how little respect Jabbar gets, you can actually make a compelling argument that hes the greatest player of all time. Only person to rival his resume is Jordan but hes hardly ever mentioned

  • beebee21

Seriously? Why is that? Maybe cause Westbrook doesn’t pass enough.

  • TV63

Old angry bitter ole man fart that is.

  • elmaar

You obviously haven’t paid attention to his progression.

  • Ken

Talent alone can’t win championships. Look at all the past great players without one. Luck, and a deep bench helps.

  • wave_rothstein

really? actually westbrook is averaging almost 9 assist a game this yr..and if you watch any okc games you’ll clearly see how much westbrook has worked on his court vision

  • roscoe

and the magical wand of the commish & co.

I’ve never heard anyone say that about Lebron either…smh

  • lifan23

At least Durant has a brain. He knows Kobe is the greatest player of his era.

  • http://www.facebook.com/george.miguel.14 George Miguel

if you have been beaten twice already in the MVP voting for the last two seasons, of course durant can not bow down to lebron, as simple as that okay!

  • http://www.facebook.com/george.miguel.14 George Miguel

and of course, lebron will be written down in history as the SPOILER to durant and KOBE in their career bec without lebron, kobe could be the MVP in 2009, then same thing in 2010, and 2012 to durant! then, when they are in the olympics, it is an INSULT to kobe and durant that COACH MIKE K preferred lebron over the two which in other way around justified bec lebron beat them in crunch time! beat the guy with action, not words, okay?

    i don’t think so

  • nhm

i find it weird that durant “never really got to watch prime jordan” … damn i’m old.

  • nick

Whoever compares kd and Kobe are ridiculous……Kobe has 5 rings, kd needs to win one before comparisons re made right now he doesn’t have the killer instinct…

  • Adam Contreras

I never like Kevin Durant because he’s a egomaniac, immature, & a mama boy. He was outraged about not winning MVP award in last season instead of Lebron. No matter I heavily do NOT like Lebron, he did deserved MVP award. What makes KD believe deserves it more? Besides being a scorer machine? As for calling Kobe a old fart, well we all do aged. He should have just ignore Kobe & move on. Now, Durant is talking all nice. Which makes him BS.

  • Adam Contreras

Why Durant deserves MVP in last season instead of Lebron? I don’t get it.

  • Adam Contreras

No no KD needs more then 1 ring, needs MVP, & needs Final MVP. Sure he is good player but having awards, is a big fat plus!

  • Adam Contreras

I didn’t into basketball since last year. I do not need to be in the arena in the 90s to watch Jordan play. I watch him play videos on YouTube. How can he say that he has never seen Jordan play on his prime???

  • coggie13

LOL, Kobe and Durant are friends. This is being said in a humourous manner. Not sure you know too much about basketball with that rambling of utter BS you have been doing.

  • spowell44

    It’s a “chip”

  • jem

No way will he pass Kareem. 38,388? That’s more than 6,000 points more than Michael Jordan.

  • jem

Durant an egomaniac? Get your head out of the sand.

  • Dymez

Kevin Durant, 24 years old, has already scored over 10,000 points thus far in his career. His career scoring average is 26.3 PPG right now, and climbing. At this rate, if he stays healthy he will pass up Kareem in about 13 seasons. Remember, he’s 24 and a pure scorer. It’s DEFINITELY possible.

Kareem & M.J. would snap your limb.

no more jolly ranchers for George

… then step in it come playoff time. i see it now 2nd seed O.K.C sweeps 7th seed Fakeshow.

    your chip has saled

  • Mars

Kobe is like Kanye. The best and no one will admit it but will witness the greatness. KD is a great player, and it helps being an anomaly (6’10, 7 ft wingspan, point-guard handles, unlimited range, elite athleticism) but until he turns it up, he will be watching Kobe and Lebron. And yes Jabbar is/was an anomaly himself, if a center ever comes into the league as complete as Lew Alcindor Jr, GAME OVER. Think about it, shooting 80% from the free throw line, standing 7’2, Shaq knows he would have been UNSTOPPABLE!

  • Jordan

The killer instinct to shot jack and be a ball hog? Kobe is the most overrated player in NBA history. He has Howard, Nash, and Pau on his team and he still leads the league in shots per game. He is only looking to score. Kobe is overrated in the clutch. look on google for kobe overrated in the clutch. KD is better than kobe right now and he has the “killer” instinct.

  • Qudamah Olushagun

Kevin Durant, was right about what he said about Kobe Bryant, and more. You don’t see Kobe talking about Kevin, because Kevin Durant can out play Kobe Bryant anytime. Kobe need to find a hole and get in it.

  • Basketball fan

I think it is ridiculous to compare any of these athletes to one another because they all play different positions (for the most part) and they are all in different junctures in their lives. KD, Kobe, Lebron, and Jordan are all phenomenal players and bring different talents to their respective teams. The only way they could be measured with any accuracy is if they all entered the league at the sometime and around the same age.

  • James

At this rate. Is he going to continue to score at 26+ points for the next 13 years?

  • Afg Samir

Listen chump suckers, Kobe is always has been and always will be the best basketball player in the world. Better then anyone including Jordan, wilt, magic, Lebron, and anyone else u people think is better then him. No doubt Durant and Lebron and friggin ballers, Kobe Bryant is cut from a different cloth, the guy is a different breed of human being. The killer instinct this guy has will never be matched. The best player ever to touch a basketball. I don’t even think there’s aliens out there with the skills Kobe has lol

  • West

    This title is misleading…

  • danpowers

you should have read the whole article instead of just the headline, kid. durant an egomanic by nba standards? b*tch please…

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

Yeah but it’s different watching a player live, not just in the arena but in present day. It just adds more of a wow moment

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

    are you fucking retarded?

  • Ugh

“probably the best player in my era that I’ve ever seen. It’s great to have somebody to kind of aim to”
    Me fail English? That’s unpossible!

Kareem also played for 20 years 5 years longer than Jordan and if Jordan didn’t retire the first time he would of destroyed Kareem’s record and he’d have 8 rings and that much more of a historical career

  • Eric Matterson

Older players that are great compensate with intelligence.

  • Eric Matterson

Outstanding player, but his #1 ranking in scoring is due to longevity. Jordan retired twice and retired young. Kareem played three more seasons than Wilt

  • JMAN

You learn from the best in anything you bring onto life, so that you can adapt and be the BEST in anything you do”.

  • Juan2X

Because longevity is such a horrible thing. Hey Kareem EARNED every one of the those points because he PLAYED every one of those minutes on the court. He’s #1 – deal with it.

  • Juan2X

If Jordan could stop gambling and playing baseball than MAYBE. But I doubt it.

  • Eric Matterson

When it comes to longevity,he is #1. When it comes to productivity per season,MJ has the highest PPG

  • LegendInMyMind

Jabbar averaged around 24ppg. Jordan was at 30.1, and would be #1 in point totals had he not gotten bored by how much better he was than everyone else.

Kareem is consistently in the discussion, and I think he’s top 5 all time. He just played so many more games than everyone else and logged so many more minutes. Doesn’t make him the best scorer.

  • LegendInMyMind

No one is saying that. But Jordan scored about 6 more points per game more than Kareem. And he was a SG. MJ is CLEARLY the best scorer all time.

  • Guest

Abdul-Jabbar had more teammates who could score than Jordan. That partly explains why Jordan’s career ppg is higher than Abdul-Jabbar’s.

  • raphi

of course he saw all his highlight but he never really watch a lot of bulls game during that time…
