Ricky Rubio Criticizes the Lakers for Their Treatment of Pau Gasol

Ricky Rubio came to the defense of his Spanish National Team buddy Pau Gasol, calling out the Los Angeles Lakers for the way they’ve treated the talented forward. According to Rubio, Gasol isn’t getting the respect he deserves (which, we’d guess, Pau completely agrees with.) Per Hoopshype: “Wolves guard Ricky Rubio is not happy with the way the Lakers are treating fellow Spaniard Pau Gasol. ‘Pau Gasol has given the Lakers a lot and I don’t feel he’s getting enough in return, especially as far as confidence,’ Rubio said. ‘But he’s a pro. If he goes to another team, I think he would make a contender out of that team. Wherever he goes, he’s going to be fighting for the title.’”

Foreshadowing? Seems like Pau Gasol may end up a Timberwolf; it’s just when, where, and how many teams are involved to make those salaries match.

  • solito

Trade Pau Gasol for Kevin Love, and everybody is happy… or not.

  • LLC#12

Gasol on the Wolves would be great, A starting 5 of Pek, Pau, AK47, Shved and Rubio would be great to watch.

  • RunNGun

I don’t think trade, because Pau’s owed 38M/2 years. Right now, teams are trying to get out of paying the luxury tax, so unless they’re willing to pay it’s not going to happen. LA should use the amnesty clause and get it over with.

  • S-Swagg613

I’m sorry Ricky I know your young, rich and got famous over night but before you start putting your opinions all over to the media I suggest you prove something on the court for a full season or you will be the next thing the media starts to attack…..

  • http://twitter.com/mcruz7 Miguel Cruz

Hey blondie, proves something. For at least 60 games.

  • kwamepooh

why shouldnt he give his opinion. youre doing it too…

  • azfar

He’ll prove himself don’t worry. Pretty sure he’s already established himself as one of the better playmakers in the league. He’s just gotta work on his shots. Furthermore, the LAkers are not utilizing gasol at all. He’s effective in the post and that’s not where he’s at. Also, there’s nothing wrong about giving an opinion. let the media attack him.

  • RunNGun

He didn’t put his opinion over the media; the media did that.

  • Redd

    All white everything.

  • Redd

I agree, they’re scapegoating Gasol while barely winning.

  • LakeShow

Can I get an article of someone scapegoating the Lakers woes on Pau? Thanks.

  • Redd

Kobe continuously saying Pau needs to run more & that he’s important to the team’s success. Well, then you look at the fact Pau is playing badly & Kobe saying he needs to play better. Well, with these 2 things & the media discussing amnestying Pau, it’s implied so. Ok you’re welcome.

Well damn rubio…if pau plays like he does in the Olympics no one would be complaining

  • underdog

Ricky is right on this one, altough I don’t think he should discuss this topic at all. Giving up on Pau would be a bad move from the Lakers – it wouldn’t be their first one in this season, though.

  • Rockwell

Wow, you would rather have Pau over Kevin Love? If the Wolves actually offered Love for Pau in real life, the Lakers would take it in a heartbeat!

  • I dont get why Pau would be better for the Wolves then Love. There is no chance that he is going to put those same numbers up as Love. And with the low postup game of Peckovic it will be more crowded if Gasol wants touches down low..

This trade would be good for the Lakers but not for the Wolves!

  • pops

Well he can’t cause of how the Lakers are using him.

  • danpowers

no racism in here please ;)

  • danpowers

” I know your young, rich and got famous over night” b*tch please, you dont know sh*t. rubio was a star at the age of 17 in europe and among anybody following international basketball. even the us media pushed him (at least among the die hard nba community) before he set a foot on an nba court. thats just some gifted player and nobody actually following the lakers’ situation would disagree on his statement

  • bill

That was, like, the LONGEST NIGHT EVER!!

  • roscoe

how exactly has LAL disrespected pau?

did they give his parking spot to dh12?

did they move his locker next to the smelly kid?

did they decide not to pay his $20 Million per season contract?

does rubio expect LAL to make pau #1 & dh12 to be #2 in the post?

    say what you mean rubio.

  • Red44

Ricky Rubio has done wonders on the court watch a game dumb ass. your a tool just for your name swag

  • pposse

cream team! – in all seriousness, i heard thats what the radio personalities are calling the t wolves nowadays

  • coggie13

    Hows that racism?

  • Smoove34

So According to you, Kevin Love will move to the bench?

  • nlruizfr

what he means is that DH has not performed as expected and seems to be another kawame Brown, can’t hold on to the ball, can’t control the ball without losing it, can’t hit consistent free throws, the only thing that he has over Kawame is that he can dunk every once in awhile.

  • nlruizjr

How’s that get the Lakers out of paying Gasol ?

  • Jonathan Espanta

Ok Ricky we the Lakers hear you and David Kahn has made it known for awhile now he wants him.Simply hand over Kevin Love who himself has been ripping Glenn Taylor & David Kahn and we have a DEAL.

  • Ron

    Niceeee +1

  • TV63

Rubio is right. Lakers and the LA media don’t get is that there are many teams that would love to have his leadership on their team. With a more positive locker room and less toxic environnment he will soar! God would love to see him on our Cavs team. The rooks could learn so much from him!! But I know that won’t happen. Younger teams struggling in the NBA could use his help.

  • TV63

KObe saying to the media about a month ago that Pau needed to get his big boy pants on didn’t really show alot respect either. Ouch.

  • junkie

did you not watch the 08 olympics?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

Pau and Love would def play next to eachother if there was a trade…the T-Wolves got assets! it’s just a question of is it the best deal the Lakers can get

  • LLC#12

On the t-wolves, yeah, I think I would rather have Gasol…(but not how he’s played so far this season!)

  • LLC#12

No, in my opinion, I would like to see the wolves ship Love out. Never likely to happen, and I’m sure people will disagree with me, but personally I’d just like to see Pau on the wolves.

  • danpowers

  • And that he is a center that puts up (almost) the best numbers even while not playing at his best lol. But i agree with you on the freethrows he needs to get his act together and get better at the line

  • StepIn2MyGuard

Lakers need to trade Howard and Nash for Love and Rubio ASAP.

    Because that’s where it’s going.

  • Ronald Mitchell

Lakers are a what have you done for me lately team.

  • Mike From Spain

I’d sooner have Pau for Williams and change than anything that moves Love. I don’t know how would this trade work, but a third team would need to be involved to match salaries. The ideal for the Wolves would be to have a frontcourt rotation of Love, Pau and Pek, and they should get a perimeter scoring threat (three point shooter) who defends slightly better than Ridnour. And Pau’s salary would be crippling. Perhaps if Roy’s expiring has any value, his expiring, Williams and Ridnour, and taking Pau’s bad salary, could work. Pau straight up for Love is a horrible trade!!!

  • cesar

D’antoni quoted ” His system makes it tough for post players.” it is clear that he will not adjust to the roster he has.” D’antoni is the wrong coach for this team. He is allergic to defense and wants a bunch of old payers to run up and down the court throughout the entire game. It is time for him to leave. The Lakers are in jeopardy of not making the playoffs.

  • Peter Maguire

That team is pretty white, it is amazing that they hardly talk about it!

  • Peter Maguire

I love that monniker – awesome CREAM TEAM!!!!

  • Peter Maguire

oh yeah – no doubt and both players will be better in those teams

  • Peter Maguire

Too many articles in LATimes all about how Pau is not fitting in, and to there defense it is true. He is a better Center than Howard at this point in his career, I hate watching Howard fumble the ball and not know how to get position all he can reall do is dunk. I can’t believe he doesn’t learn a little Bill Russell or Walton and make his game closer to the intimidating Tyson Chadler, he is certainly capable. Pau is an asset to any team with a smart coach, and would put the Wolves right into the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs.

  • Peter Maguire

oh yeah now you are talking!

  • Peter Maguire

Agreed – incredible talent just a matter of time and health before everyone knows how good he is.

  • Peter Maguire

16 Championships – hard team to play for they only are happy when they win it all

  • Peter Maguire

he is pretty smart – actually Pau is the better talent on the floor. DHoward needs a role and he isn’t nearly as versatile as Pau. Dwight can play but his game is dunking and picking up garbage points on a spread out floor. Pau’s shooting % is incredible when he is in the post and his passing helps everyone become a better player.

  • Peter Maguire

    Phil Jackson

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

    definitely world class talent

  • raymund

That would be great! For the lakers we have Howard, Love, Peace, Bryant and Nash…Western Conference finals would be a tossed up with Lakers, Timberwolves, Thunders, Clippers and maybe Spurs…

  • Bobitto

Only a laker fan would think a t-wolves line up without K-Love would be great

  • http://www.facebook.com/GTCIncognito Gilberto Troy Cruz

There ya go Slick Rick, way to spark up the trade possibilities. I’ve been saying it all along to those in the loop, all’s fair in basketball if the phone lines are discussing a Gasol for Love trade straight up hand over fist with no intereference what so ever from Ole’ man Stern or that other royal pain in da ass prince in shinning armour Jim Buss. Rubio gets to play with his fellow country man and BIG K lands at LAX to get some CALIFORNICATION with KB24. If Make it happen Mitch can get this one done it’ll be good for both franchises long term.

  • http://twitter.com/TexXxas_Made Joe Kuykendall

There would be alot of “sunshine’ on that Wolves team fa sho!
