Carmelo Anthony Suspended One Game For Confrontation With Kevin Garnett

Despite Carmelo Anthony’s best efforts to explain away his multiple attempts to get at Kevin Garnett for something he said on the court on Monday night, the NBA saw it fit to suspend him for the confrontation (which was captured on video.) Per the AP: “There are no circumstances in which it is acceptable for a player to confront an opponent after a game,’ NBA executive vice president of operations Stu Jackson said in a statement. ‘Carmelo Anthony attempted to engage with Kevin Garnett multiple times after Monday’s game and therefore a suspension was warranted.’ Anthony will miss the Knicks’ nationally televised game at Indiana on Thursday and lose about $176,700 of his $19.4 million salary. Jackson said Anthony confronted Garnett ‘in the arena tunnel, near the players’ locker rooms, and in the parking garage.’ The incident by the bus, with New York police and Knicks coach Mike Woodson nearby, was captured on videotape. [...] On Tuesday, Anthony said he was upset because of what Garnett said, though wouldn’t elaborate on what it was. ‘There’s certain things that you just don’t say to men, another man,’ said Anthony, who is married to actress LaLa Vasquez. [...] Garnett was not penalized.”

I’m on Melo’s side all the way, heck KG should’ve gotten something too.

I just do not understand how Melo gets suspended for doing what he did. KG has a big mouth and someone finally called him out. KG is not a tough guy lets clear that up, for years KG would carry on like this towards guys like Tim Duncan because Tim is not cut from that cloth. Well now he got a taste of what it’s like to open his mouth towards somebody who doesn’t play those type of games . I will never forget when Anthony Peeler who at one point was KG’s teammate socked KG in the jaw on TV for talking to much trash!!! KG did absolutely nothing you know why because he is all talk. Stu Jackson let’s KG talk all type of trash to people and nothing happens the minute somebody calls KG out that person in this case being Melo gets suspended. #political #unfair #KGSoft

did perk and z-bo get suspended when they tried to confront each other in the tunnel? maybe the fact that it was caught on tape made it worse in stern’s eyes and that he Went to the bus

  • pposse

carmello is an idiot for trying to confront KG plain and simple. Albeit after the fact, everyone now knows what KG said about his (carmello’s) wife cause he lost his composure. Dont these guys have publicists and managers around them at all times? The suspension was just icing on the cake.

So nothing happens to KG even though the world (including Stu Jackson) knows what was said that ticked Melo off. Whether Melo wanted to fight or talk, all they ending up doing was talking. To suspend him for approaching KG is kind of crazy to me. I think if you suspend Melo you should suspend KG too.

dear stu jackson, your wife sucks d*cks for dimes in the central park. at lunchtime

hopefully a broken jaw next time they play the knicks

Whatever Carmelos intentions were, you just can’t do what he did. It just makes it look like you’re looking for trouble. If ALL he wanted to do was talk, he should have went about it another way. It was reported that they eventually spoke on the phone and worked it out so he should have just waited and called him. I think the suspension comes in the premeditation of the incident. Its not like they were both ejected right after the exchange on the court and he ran to the C’s locker room. They played the rest of the game, he went, showered, got dressed and after all that he still went to the bus. He had plenty of time to think it through. You can’t suspend KG simply for pissing an opponent off.

Melo is a moron. He gave KG exactly what he wanted. He let him get in his head and he lost his composure. Because of that he gets to sit out a game. The NBA had to do something about this, they can’t have guys waiting by team buses trying to start something.

I like how everybody is calling KG a P*ssy. If Melo is so tough why didn’t he just knock KG out on the court when he said what he said? KG is a master of getting in his opponents’ heads.

Understand…at KG’s age cholesterol is of great concern and Honey Nut Cheerios have been clinically proven to lower your LDL (bad cholesterol)….LMBO! Seriously you don’t get fines for talking junk. For “going after” someone off the court yes…even if it was to talk. (-that which angers you, controls you…)

  • Anthony Norman

Z bo got fined…Z-Bo went looking for Perk. Perk got nothing & KG got nothing b/c they didn’t look for the other party. Z-Bo got fined & now Melo got suspended 1 to make an example..2 to try and curb this trend.

Get those cereal boxes out at the garden for the next matchup!

KG once told Duncan “Happy birthday mother****er” after his moms died from Breast Cancer.

Then Doc Rivers had the audacity to say KG never crosses the line..ok.

LOL na thanks man, I was multi-tasking & was way off.

Wonder if KG would ever say something like that to someone like MWP. Let’s face it, some guys in this league would have ripped his throat open.

  • thasamiam

Re: A guy from Boston. If Melo tried to knock KG out on the court then he would have been kicked out of that game and automatically suspended for at least one game (and likely two or more). Cases like this is why I wish the NBA would allow players to fight sometimes because too many players like KG know they can say foul sh*t like that and not have to be punched in the mouth for it or be body slammed by someone.

  • nixon

KG is one of the last thrash talkers in the NBA, he fucks with everyone on the court to throw them off their game. And clearly, melo was affected by the trash talking both on the court and off, shooting 6-22. Thrash talking used to be common and something that is considered deeply rooted in basketball (Big names such as MJ, Dennis Rodman, Charles Brakley, Shaq, Isaiah Thomas and Larry Bird all do it!), He is tough, (check out his background) and backs away at times because he’s smart and too valuable to his team to get into a fight. He is not all talk, the dude is a Hall of Famer. You are just plain out disrespectful

  • AndyK

I agree. Melo isn’t close to being a tough guy either. Remember when the Knicks had that “brawl” a year or two ago and Melo tried to slap a guy instead of punch him?

  • AndyK

Haha so did I! I feel the same way!

  • AndyK

Seriously we need some player in the league to just knock KG for talking just one to time to shut him up.

***Actress*** don’t you have to be in something to be an actress? Oh that’s right. It’s NYC. Celebrity by association. I forgot.

  • vtrobot

Melo isn’t a tough guy. He would have punched KG when he said something that deserved a punch. That’s what someone tough would do. They wouldn’t think about potential suspensions. They’d punch the person. He waited by the bus to appear tough. KG can say whatever he wants to say. You don’t have to respect him. All’s fair in war. You can make the person eat their words with your superior play, you can headbutt the guy onto the soccer field, or you can have a horrible shooting night. Melo was pissed that it messed up his game so much. Love to watch these two teams play.
