Josh Smith’s Agent Says There are ‘Frustrations in Atlanta’

by Marcel Mutoni @ marcel_mutoni

The fact that Josh Smith didn’t sign a contract extension with the Hawks all but guaranteed that this would be an awkward season in Atlanta. And despite both sides saying that things would work themselves out, sure enough, tensions are rising.

The Hawks suspended Smith after he reportedly blew up at practice. Josh’s agent, Wallace Prather, met with GM Danny Ferry and though he stopped short of demanding a trade for his client, it’s clear that Josh Smith is one unhappy camper.

Per CBS Sports:

“As far as moving forward and whatever changes will be made, that’s more so management’s job to field those calls and make the decisions they feel like are best to move forward,” Smith’s agent said. While Prather made it clear that Smith is concerned about how the once-hot Hawks have rolled over in losing six of their last seven games and seven out of nine, neither he nor his client has asked for a trade. [...] “I want to be clear that I’m not pushing a trade,” Prather said. “This is not a trade request or anything, but there are frustrations in Atlanta.”

Multiple rival executives confirmed that the Hawks have participated in trade conversations with several teams regarding Smith, a 27-year-old game-changing defender when engaged. [...] Among the teams that would appeal to Smith are Dallas, Houston and Memphis, a league source said.

Regarding the possibility of an in -season trade, Prather let this out: “I do know there are teams interested.” Josh Smith, 27, will be an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Interesting times (and decisions) ahead in the A.

here is one Josh Smith trade scenario that could go down, in one form or another, http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=bcspf3l

If im Memphis or Houston i dont touch him …Dallas i can see…Dirk will make it to where he has to stay n the post full time on Offense

  • what

The Atlanta Hawks are not a charity organization.

I dont think ATL need anymore SG`s, you are very retarded.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

after that trade, the Hawks would have 4 Shooting Guards, Total.

Tyreke Evans, John Salmons, Deshawn Stevenson, and Anthony Morrow.

The average NBA team has…………4 Shooting Guards, Total.

    You are very retarded.

Well he’s basically saying,” hey, u can roll the dice and keep him…but ur running a big risk of him signing to another team, because he’s unhappy here. the choice is urs.” and theres nothing wrong with that. Clearly things are not working, and it wud be downright stupid for management to take that risk.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

I don’t see him playing there next year. No way.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

    So angry.

  • pposse

why would Josh Smith demand a trade before the trade deadline? he can walk in the summer, isn’t that good enough? Why be greedy?

someone needs to gather all the NBA agents and cut out their damn tongues. Agents ruin careers, ruin teams and ruin my love for this league.

  • Redd

Nope & I believe you said the idea, Mavs right? That’s where I see him & call me crazy but I feel ATL may be a sleeper for Dwight.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

If the Lakers struggle and he decides that he wants to be the number one option again on a team, I think Dallas, Brooklyn and Atlanta are the top 3 places he may end up.

  • Redd

I think he’s not happy under a spotlight as big as it is in LA, whereas Dallas & BK are still major markets but Dallas is overlooked & BK is still being developed. Sadly ATL is both overlooked & not yet close to serious contention.

  • Clos1881

    Send him to Boston

Hopefully the sixers make amends for last time when we had a chance to sign smith or brand but offered the huge contract to brand.. We should have enough cap space for both bynum and smith. Would ‘t be a bad start.

Here’s a proposal for you all:
Josh Smith, CJ Watson to Portland…Brook Lopez Kris Humphries to Atlanta…LaMarcus Aldridge, Jeff Teague, Zaza Pachulia to Brooklyn.
The main pieces all match up you can fashion the other pieces however you’d like…

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

I don’t think he’s too happy playing with a guy who’s only goal is to win and win now and the way he goes about it is different than the way Dwight goes about it. That with the possibility of them not even making the playoffs and if they do, unless they make some major improvements before April gets here, they’ll be done in the first round. If he stays in LA, it will be because of the lifestyle more than anything else. I only threw Atlanta in there because that’s his home and they’ll have money.

  • Redd

Yeah thats y I have them as a sleeper, he’s from there & his personality just seems like he’s a guy that loves home.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Think it would be wise for those who don’t like what Josh’s agent did to read the part where it says that Josh didn’t sign an extension before the season meaning that this season would be awkward. There’s probably a good reason for him not signing. Can’t have it both ways. If Josh talks about getting traded or requests a trade, people would bash him. Agent does it and people criticize. I think those people who have an issue with this need to stop being so sensitive and understand that this is a business not only for the owners and GMs, but also for the coaches and players. They’ll do what’s best for them and they should. Agents don’t ruin careers. Most agents take great care of their players and look out for what’s in their best interests.

he needs to go to boston

  • Hugo Silva

I dont think brooklyn has enough money to sign howard. Arent they over the salary cap?

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

    Sign and trade.

  • Hugo Silva

Actually Salmons is listed as a SF. But anyways they would also still have John Jenkins and Kyle Korver. Make it 6 SG’s lol.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i don’t care what they are listed at. Kyle Korver is listed at SG but he is not a SG by any stretch of anyone’s imagination. He’s an unathletic 6’8″ standstill shooter who can’t defend any guards. He’s a small forward. Positionally speaking.
For example. Leandro Barbosa is listed at PG for the Celtics, and we all know that’s a sh*tty joke.

  • Hugo Silva

First off why would Brooklyn want J.Teague? Why would atlanta want B.Lopez when they already have Al Horford at C?

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Al would move to the 4 which is probably his true position.

  • jake

Send him to LAL for Gasol, that way everyone is happy.

  • what

    Everyone except the Hawks.

  • what

I can assure you Atlanta has better bitches already.

  • http://www.facebook.com/DanielUpYours Daniel Powers

dont the lakers have picks or couldnt they pull a three way trade that could give the hawks one or two expriring contracts and picks?

  • what

I am not that familiar with the Lakers’ pick situation but I think they traded most of their tradeable assets away when they acquired Nash and Howard.

  • http://twitter.com/SLAM_Radio SLAM Radio

Value for losing the best young player in the trade…its really about the main guys in the trade anyway…money is even..

  • GeorgePHyde

I don’t see a trade with Dallas because there is nothing desirable on their roster. Memphis just parted with several of their good young players to shed salary. I think this comes down to what Houston is willing to give up.
