JR Smith Wants A Spot On The All-Star Team

In his last seven games, JR Swish is averaging 24.7 points (on 45 percent shooting), 7 boards, 3.9 assists, 2.1 steals per. That’s All-Star-caliber numbers and Smith told The Post that he deserves All-Star consideration: “J.R. Smith has loftier goals than winning this year’s NBA Sixth Man Award. Smith, amid the best season of his career, has eyes on the All-Star Game, as a participant, not a reveler. Unsolicited, Smith told The Post he believes he should be considered for an All-Star selection for the first time in his career. The super sub has scored 20-plus points in five straight games entering tonight’s match in Orlando — a first in his nine-season career. The shooting guard also is the first Knick to score 20-plus points in four straight games off the bench. Smith’s pair of spectacular December buzzer-beaters is another notch in his belt. He has defended with more tenacity than ever before, rebounded and racked up his share of assists. HOOP-SMITH: J.R. Smith jams home a spectacular reverse alley-oop dunk during Thursday night’s 100-83 win over the Spurs, the kind of play he tells The Post should get him an All-Star berth. ‘My eyes are on being an All-Star, honestly,’ Smith told The Post late Thursday after the Knicks hammered the mighty Spurs. ‘I’m not focusing on Sixth Man. Sixth Man is more long-term, honestly, end of the year. My individual goal right now is All-Star, then I’ll think about the Sixth Man. I’m trying to be that All-Star coming off the bench for my team.’”

Knicks definitely deserves at least one more all-star besides Melo and i can agree with JR – it should be him this year

  • Redd

They do? What makes them so deserving of 2? Lol

  • Redd

This dude is delirious. If Monte couldn’t get in there’s no way he should get in.

You got freakness but that aint all. Maybe next year.

He’s not entirely wrong, He should be considered, Whether he deserves to make it? I don’t know. But his name should be brought up in discussion.

  • M Cho

He’d put on a better show at the All Star game than Joe Johnson.

well Monte did it on bad teams. J.R is doin git on a good team. Thats gonna give him more credibility, but i doubt he makes it. If Monte was doing that on a good team? (like THIS years Warrior team?) then he’d have definitely made it.

  • Redd

    Then Curry better make it.

  • Dymez

I don’t blame him for trying to get his name out there. If he didn’t, nobody would have considered even thinking about him, he would have just been overlooked completely.

I’m not saying whether or not I believe he deserves the selection (it’s still early, to me), but he deserves some national attention on the subject. JR Smith is averaging 16.6, 5.2, and 2.8 on the season. Jamal Crawford is getting plenty of all-star mentions on national tv and he’s averaging 16.5, 1.9, and 2.6. Both teams are currently in second place of their respective conferences, so conversation can and should be made about both, or none for either. Treat them equal.

  • ThaWindy

    He’s got my vote.

  • Jimmy

    and lee

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

he damn well better. Him and Lee. No question, lol

  • Hugo Silva

Rudy Gay is playing really well and he’s not been an allstar. GAy is better than Jr. So I Doubt Jr could make the allstar team.

  • GetMeThooo

But you guys are talking western conference…He’s in the east…ijs though

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

look at the forwards in the West, then tell me Gay deserved to be an all star. Also, im not saying J.R is gonna make it, i doubt he will, and thats perfectly fine. He deserves SOME consideration, but if i was the coach picking the reserves, i’d have to eventually pass on him myself.

You sound more delirious. This dude has a case. If anybody from the Bucks should go, it’s Jennings. Ellis is overrated and has been for years. JR has been the second best player on the Knicks this season, don’t let your hatred blind you. Only other guard I would take over him as a reserve is Jrue Holiday, Paul George if he classifies as a guard, and maybe Kyrie. Kyrie would be a lock if his team was a little better.

  • http://twitter.com/scoesmith Scoe

Yeah he’s playing real well, that’s why he’s on the block. Not to mention your comparing a forward that plays in the west to a guard that plays in the east.

  • JML-G

cause they are playing great ball this season, big market and they have couple more players deserving a-s consideration – atm JR is their second go-to guy, so…

  • pops

Well young Kobe made the all star team as a starter in ’98 averaging around the same stats as JR while also coming off the bench. Its not impossible.

  • pistolpete7

JR Smith should deserve consideration for the east. How many good two guards are really good in the east. Monta ellis is talented but he is not playing at a high level ; iso joe johnson is not playing at an allstar level. All s left is dwadeand smith stop with all this other nonsense

  • Max

    They’re playing great team ball.
    JKidd for 2013 Allstar!!

  • Max

They don’t pick Sg’s, they pick guards. There are more point guards who are better.

  • Max

So do I my friend, so do I.

  • The Fury

If neither doesn’t gets in….f@k the NBA or the coach who will select the reserves.

  • str8 from samoa

monte ellis is the name. not jr smith.

  • Redd

Agreed, been a GS fan since they stunk & now they finally are doing well.

  • MikeC.

Instead of everyone saying “hater this” and “hater that”, let’s get a rundown of guards more deserving than JR. Wade, Rondo…

  • http://www.facebook.com/samson.c.kin Samson Chan Wei Kin

    JR deserves the spot!!!

  • JML-G

Kidd isnt scoring as much and beating buzzerbeaters as JR Swish…

  • Max

    Beating buzzers.
And I know, I was just Kidding.
    See what I did there?

  • King David

wow i was litrerally just having this debate with my friend about why is it that Smith makes 18 mil less?

  • Ten Speed Everywhere Guy

If you look at guards in the East, Wade and Rondo are going to be the starters, and the next players on the list (at least according to fan voting) are D-Will, Kyrie, Ray Allen, Ellis and Felton. Are those guys more deserving than Smith? Deron Williams is having a terrible year (but he’ll probably be in there anyway). And a case could be made for Irving. But other than those two guys… How many guards will get picked by the coaches?

  • Ten Speed Everywhere Guy

Hah Iso Joe getting no love at all from the fan voters apparently. He’s not even among the top vote getters for East guards!

  • Nanuk

He should be more focused on winning. That’s what separates a good player from a great player.

  • bill

That’s easy…he’s never played for Atlanta, and he’s always been on Carmelo’s team.

  • bill

Not with Lin eating up all the BS starter votes, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Westbrook, and Harden in his way. shame

  • bill

That would be Chandler as the 2nd then.

  • http://www.facebook.com/trafalgar.law.146069 Traffy Law

focus to be an allstar? then sixthman? not winning championship? thats why your not an allstar…or he thinks they can’t win first round in the playoffs?
