Rajon Rondo Hints That Not All Boston Celtics Hate Losing Enough

The pointed message from Rajon Rondo was unmistakable, no matter how diplomatic the fiery Boston Celtics point guard tried to be. According to Rondo, more of his teammates need to adopt his “sore loser” mentality. He thinks it’s the only way for the C’s to get out of the ugly rut they’re currently mired in. Per the Boston Globe: “The frustrating part is just losing,’ he said. ‘I’m a sore loser. It’s tough to lose.’ Then he put it in broader terms. ‘Everybody isn’t,’ he said. ‘You’ll learn that everybody isn’t a sore loser. Some teams are OK with losing. Some guys are OK with just getting a check. But everything I do, I compete. So, this four-game losing streak is frustrating.’ He stopped short of pointing fingers. ‘I can only judge myself,’ Rondo said. ‘That’s my New Year’s resolution. I don’t want to judge anybody this year.’ [...] There’s no connection between how much a player sulks and how much he cares about a loss, head coach Doc Rivers said, so he doesn’t read into reactions after losses. ‘You’ve still got to learn from losing and learn from winning at the same time,’ Rivers said. ‘Clearly there are guys that are more emotional than others. That doesn’t mean the other guys don’t take it just as poorly.’ Still, it’s a place the Celtics are used to being in and have no desire to be stuck in. ‘You go through adversity every season,’ Rondo said. ‘It’s nothing to get too down about. It’s a long season. I’m staying positive. I haven’t lost faith or hope in this team. I still have high expectations. I know we will turn it around.’”

they should go all in and get Cousins – give up Green, Lee, Bradley, Melo.. try to keep Sullinger tho.. Cousins + Rondo + all the vets would be impressive

  • pposse

I disagree with Doc, i think there is a very strong “connection with how much a player sulks and how much he cares about a loss”

I hear RR. but he needs to put up more points then these 11 point outings,,as a celtics fan its hard to see your star PG not be aggressive.

Im gonnna go ahead and say it. You guys can quote me on this. Rajon rondo is being exposed this year. And even Celtic fans (u know, the very same ones that were trying to advertise him as the best PG in the league, and debated till they were blue in the face that he was better than Derrick Rose) have had enough of him. They want him out-dont believe me? go read any of the Celtics blogs on the net. They are no longer blind to the fact that he’s a selfish passer. Yes. a SELFISH passer. He passes up good opportunities to score for himself, so that he can pass and get an assist. He’s all about the assist numbers. They’re also infuriated with his defence, just like his passing, he only plays the lane to get steals and get the steal numbers up, he doesnt pressure the ball handler nearly enough, and when he does? this year he’s been getting blown by. Didnt he have liek 2 points against the Kings? and like 3 assists or something? Celtic fans all over the country want this guys a$$ shipped out, and rightfully so. He’s just as much of a problem as anyone or anything else on the team-if not the biggest problem. This team has issues with interior defence ofc, but when the guy doing the permiter defence is constantly gambling and is then out of the play, what are u supposed to do? And as a respected user here said before in regards to the Celtics, a team cant expect to get worse defensively, and still be as good or better unless they get considerably better offensively. Wasnt it up to Rondo to make that happen? I’ve been watching the Celtics play, and its gotten embarrassing for them as a team, and Rondo as a leader.

Watch Rondo play: he’s the Kevin Love of point guards.

That I can agree with. I have always felt that Rondo was overrated especially on the defensive end.

  • Caboose

He and Love subscribe to the same theory: if I put up numbers, I can say whatever I want about my team, even if it is my fault.

  • AQWORD

You mean the Kobe theory ?

  • zogs19994

RONDO IS A NASTY PG…STOP HATING!!!

No, that would produce 2 championships and a Finals appearance in 3 years.

Celtics need to blow it up. Its over with, its done. Its interesting how the rise and fall of the KG/Kobe Lakers have mirrored each other. These two teams are like male lions at the tail of their primes after they’ve been ousted by younger lions, trying to hold on and survive in the wild. The Celtics/Lakers as we know them are not going to be alive (metaphorically obviously) for much longer.

  • Nope

which is markedly better than 1 championship, a finals appearance, and a 7 game series in the ecf against the champs last year in 4 years?

  • j

do you watch nature documentaries bro?

  • Max

Yes it is, especially when that championship came when he averaged 10 and 7 in 32 minutes on 40% shooting in the playoffs. In comparison to what Kobe did.

  • Max

    LOL

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

lets be honest though, he wasnt a big part of that championship team…he wasnt considered a GOOD player until years after. In fact the PG position was their Achilles heel. He was much below par for a starting PG. So lets not act like he was a fourth star or something back then or something.

  • KipSmithers

I just think the Celtics have an odd combo of guys who have built the chemistry with Rondo, but not the legs to keep up with him and guys who have the legs to keep up with Rondo, but haven’t built the chemistry yet.

  • kc

This is true for all teams. Not every player in the league is motivated to be great and win. Thats why there are so many sub par NBA players that clearly never work on their game.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

    Too much, clearly.

  • Dee

Dude, what Celtics blogs you’re reading? As a Celtics fan I’m frustrated with the whole team but if there are two players on the roster that I can’t complain about, they’re : KG and RONDO.

  • roscoe

i appreciate everyone’s comments here, but doesn’t anyone want to know who Rondo is talking about???!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer: JET cares more about his BS Celtic tattoo than losses. Print it.

You’ve never seen him play idiot. Rondo is more important to Boston than Jame is to Miami. Book it!

  • http://www.facebook.com/qcollingwood Interdico Scriptor

again. you’ve never watched a game… Rondo was considered the fourth star even in 08. Loser!

  • Redd

I agree he’s the first of his kind too. Sadly Celtics have nothing to give up, either they trade Rondo or Pierce but they won’t get a big time player for him. They waited too long to blow it up.

  • He calls himself the best PG. Chris Paul is laughing so hard. With Rondo and Deron being exposed this season

  • Shifty

I wouldn’t exactly say that. Phil Jackson said that Rondo’s play in some of the games in the finals helped secure wins. Phil Jackson said that.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

What are u talking about? he wasnt considered even an all star potential type player in 08. He was shooting 48% from the free throw line, he was considered the weak link in the starting lineup. Go look up his stats…he was NEVER considered the fourth star whatsoever…

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

whoops, was a reply to another post. But still. What are u talking about?

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

    lets try this again…
