Dwight Howard Reportedly Mocked Kobe Bryant in Front of Other NBA All-Stars


The icy, drama-filled, and increasingly contentious relationship between Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard continues to grow more ridiculous by the day it seems. For the second time this season, a report has surfaced alleging that Dwight Howard made fun of Kobe Bryant behind his back. According to the NY Post, Dwight clowned Kobe during All-Star Weekend after they flew together to Houston: “Amid other reports that the Lakers’ chilly on-court chemistry was spilling into the locker room, we’re told that Howard ‘grabbed Kobe’s uniform, put it on, and imitated him in front of all the other players on the West team. He was joking and berating Kobe’ to fellow NBA stars, including the Clippers’ Chris Paul and Blake Griffin and Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant. The source added Bryant later arrived in the locker room, ‘said hello to everyone on the team except Howard, grabbed his stuff and moved as far away from Howard as he could.’ Despite a recent clear-the-air meeting in Memphis, relations haven’t thawed.”

    Man, Dwight…you’re a damn fool. I used to like how you wouldn’t take anything serious off the court, it was refreshing, but you’re just a spoiled baby at this point. No one has said “no” to you in a very long, including your parents, and now Kobe comes along into your life and tells you how it’s done and what do you do? You cry about it to the media like a fucking baby, you cry to your old man, you probably cried to your high school coach as well.

    Yeah, I’m inclined to agree with that. This is so ludicrous. Just curious though Lake, what if the Lakers looked into a Dwight and pieces for Josh and bigger pieces deal? Like Dwight and Metta for Josh, Teague, Korver, and a 1st Round Pick?

    Kevin Ding, a Lakers beat guy, has reported since way back that a) Dwight makes fun of Kobe behind his back, and b) other players, including Nash (!) and Gasol, are sick of Dwight’s lack of effort.

    I am not surprised by this story at all.

    “Despite Kobe Bryant shooting at a career-high level, Howard has mocked Bryant’s shooting stats behind his back when he hasn’t shot well, leaving Lakers teammates feeling awfully uncomfortable. Bryant has tried to connect with Howard, tried to support his free-throw failures with glowing words about how great Howard can be and tried most recently to accommodate that “inside-out” insistence by rising up to shoot and half-looking at the rim, half-looking for Howard.”

    Atlanta wouldn’t do that tho. Trading Smith for Dwight would be trading one expiring contract for another. And they value Teague way way too much to just give him away.

    Doesn’t Dwight mock everybody? Aren’t imitations kind of his thing, particularly at All-Star games?
    I don’t know what’s in his heart, but before we all castigate Dwight let’s be clear about a few things.
    Players in Orlando loved Dwight. Maybe not all of them but many of them.
    Kobe has clashed with every single big man he’s ever played with.
    Dwight is playing with a painful back injury.
    Kobe likes to shoot.
    Dwight is desperate for approval and hates tough love.
    Kobe only understands tough love.
    Really, this relationship is as much about Kobe being Kobe as it is about Dwight being Dwight. Both of them are behaving the way they’ve behaved for years.

    At some point Dwight has to stop being a clown. Shaq clowned around but he was serious on the floor and in the locker room. Dwight clowns around all the time. If anyone but Jim Buss was running this team and Kobe’s opinion was being listened to, Dwight would be gone by Thursday if possible. When’s the last time the best big man in the league acted like this and kept having to change teams? I thought Shaq was crazy taking Brook Lopez over Dwight, but this season, I’d agree with him. Injured or not, Dwight’s approach to the game has to change. Can’t go into Kobe’s world on Kobe’s team in Kobe’s city and keep mocking him like this. I’m sure CP3 and those guys looked at Howard like he was out of his mind. Kobe’s done too much for a player like Dwight to keep mocking him. Seemed to me like he didn’t have one fan in Houston when he was introduced before the game this past weekend. He seemed out of place. The bright lights of LA are too much for him. Brooklyn would be too much for him too. Should have stayed in Orlando.

    dh12 is a light-heart-goofball that needs constant attention and approval. kb24 does not nurse his ego and its not surprising the media continues to create unverified stories.

    in reality the LAC crew is so fun loving it would not surprise me if they were joking and things were a silly about kb24 but I will not accept CP3 was disrespecting kb24. Fail.

    the truth is the east all-stars don’t like dh12 as revealed in the 2012 all star game in ORL when he should have been propped up in the game, but dey didnt pass him the ball.

    the bottom line is dh12 can damage anyone’s image and its best to keep the distance.
