LA Clippers Side-Step Kevin Garnett Trade Rumors

LA Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro spoke up and did his best to shoot down rumors that the Boston Celtics had discussed a swap involving Kevin Garnett, Eric Bledsoe and Caron Butler. Per the LA Daily News: “The aging, expensive Celtics recently lost point guard Rajon Rondo to a season-ending knee injury, knocking an already unbalanced season sideways. With the Clippers potentially looking for help to get back on track, the Celtics contemplating blowing their roster up and going into full rebuild mode and the Feb. 21 trade deadline approaching, the game of connect the dots is in full swing. Which led to a report that surfaced Sunday in the Sporting News that indicated the Clippers had inquired about the Celtics’ Kevin Garnett. The Clippers reportedly are dangling point guard Eric Bledsoe and forward Caron Butler for the 37-year-old Garnett, who has two more years on his contract beyond this season worth $23 million. [...] ‘I’m just focused on the Washington Wizards,’ Bledsoe said before Monday’s game. ‘Just focused on the Wizards and trying to get back on a winning track.’ It was a clever way of downplaying the reports, but the reality is Bledsoe knows full well his name is out there in trade talks. To deal with it, he boils his focal point down to the most minimal element. ‘It’s what I can control,’ Bledsoe said. ‘So I’ll focus on the Wizards and trying to get back on the winning track.’ Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said trade talk isn’t an issue and most of the rumors being bandied about have little validity. ‘Most of (what’s reported) isn’t accurate,’ Del Negro said.”

  • Clippers would be insane to give up Bledsoe certainly now Chris Paul is out and with Billups still not back…

  • Max

Doesn’t KG have a no trade clause?

  • http://www.facebook.com/devin.williams1 Devin Williams

Yep, and they would be krazy givin up Bledsoe cus they cant really on Billups at this point

  • booo

yeh, but it basically means KG has the deciding choice as to whether he gets traded. So if he fancies another ring then the clippers sound like quite a good trade!

  • spit hot fiyah

the thing is that they will have to max out paul this summer, which leave them without enough Money to re-sign bledsoe and risk losing him for nothing

  • RKJ92

Its for financial reasons not cuz they’re crazy bro.. lol, think OUTSIDE the box ;)

Lakers get: Caron Butler, Courtney Lee, Brandon Bass

Clippers lineup: Paul, Green, Hill, Griffin, Garnett, with Crawford, Jamison, Bledsoe, and Jordan off the bench
Celtics lineup: Billups, Terry, Pierce, Green, Gasol with Bradley, Barnes, Barbosa, and Turiaf off the bench
Lakers lineup: Nash, Kobe, Butler, Bass, Dwight with Lee, Metta, Clark, and Blake off the bench

yeah that is way too much for the clippers.

Entertained me for a couple minutes?

If I were the Clippers I wouldn’t be going after Kevin Garnett, I would go after Los Angeles native Paul Pierce. Pierce who’s days in Boston are slowly coming to an end would be a perfect fit for the Clippers. The Clippers who don’t really have a go to scorer or clutch player that starts excluding Chris Paul could really use Pierce for his scoring, his clutch factor, and his championship experience. So I would trade Lamar Odom and Caron Butler for Pierce, with Pierce joining the Clippers I believe that they would have to be the favorites to make it to the Finals out of the west. I’m guessing the Celtics would ask for Eric Bledsoe so you could include him in that deal.

With the Celtics getting rid of Pierce and Garnett saying he’ll waive his no trade clause if they trade Pierce and that he’ll only come to LA, than the Celtics would have no other choice but to trade Garnett to LA, but not to the Clips, but to the Los Angeles Lakers. With the Lakers and Celtics having the biggest rivalry in NBA history and never really wanting to help one another out, I think this would be the time to change that. Both teams, who aren’t having the seasons they are used to, along with all the trade rumors going on, they need to make a deal. Pau Gasol has been in trade talks for a couple of years now and it would make sense for both teams to do a Garnett for Gasol swap. Both teams would stay relevant and wouldn’t have to rebuild and would be getting better. KG would love to play with Nash, Kobe, and Dwight and to make a run at perhaps a couple of more titles and Gasol would help the Celtics by getting younger and would fit in nicely with Rondo.

  • Irishway’s

Yeah… I like it Lakers would benefit from this and the Celtics would still be the oldest team in the league..

trade bledsoe now and their pg is who?

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

Still they’re in win now mode with Bledsoe going out and so many veterans on the team, grant hill, billups, etc.

KG at this point in time would be perfect starting or as a third big in the rotation for about 25-30 minutes a night. Expensive yes, but his defense and mid range jumpers would be very welcome. It’s like… Blage Griffin and DJ dunk all over your frontcourt, DJ protects the rim, and when you think you will have a break, there comes KG at his manic intensity level.

About the Stephen A. Smith trade proposed for Paul Pierce, the Clips with PP would be a terror. I think that PP has still some gas for a final title run.
