Timofey Mozgov Wants to Play, Doesn’t Care About Wins

The Denver Nuggets couldn’t unload big man Timofey Mozgov at the trade deadline despite his wishes to play elsewhere. In a refreshingly honest interview, Mozgov admits that at this point in his career, he just wants to get on the court, team success be damned. From Sport-Express (translation done by Rush’n Hoops): “Of course I badly want to play. From this perspective, a trade was supposed to happen. It would be good both for me and the club, because my contract expires in summer, which means I will be able to leave Denver without any compensation. I don’t know what was on our management’s mind when they decided not to trade me. But if it happened, it means that there were some major reasons for that. NBA is a serious business, where nothing is being done without a reason. I hope I will get an opportunity to show what I can do this season. Otherwise, why keep me on the team?’ It was reported that Miami and Minnesota have contacted the Nuggets about you. Did it really happen? ‘Yes, my agent told me about it. And I would go to Miami or Minneapolis gladly. On one condition only – that they would let me play. That the Heat are the main title contender this season didn’t matter to me at all. I am not going to sit on the bench even for a champion’s ring. To me, playing time is more important right now than any team results.’”

that’s what practice is there for. outplay macgee and koufos and minutes will open up.

  • Zabbah

From his perspective he’s right, PT is more important than getting on a title contender.

Mozgov wants to prove he can play, gotta respect that..

  • TSmoove

Playing strictly for team success is a Rashard Lewis or James Jones thing.

  • Wnbasucks

Y would respect that the guys a looser, send him to the wizards, winning trumps all

  • Cartel

Why be on a contender and NOT play…The bum Eddy Curry got a ring for being on the bench in street clothes…Are u telling me that that’s respectable?…Gotta respect Mozgov’s true hooper mentality…

  • Max

Headline makes it seem like he doesn’t care about winning at all, even if he would play.

true or not. probably shouldn’t have said this.
makes you look like you value yourself over the team.
that image, if it was already established that you had to play wherever you got traded, may be why you didn’t get traded.

  • TSmoove

I definitely understand what you’re saying but wouldn’t you rather someone be a bench warmer who’s eager to prove himself than a one who is content with where he’s at as long as he’s picking up his check an winning? I value that competitive edge. I think we all forgot that when he first came to the A he was a starter for the Knicks.

saying you won’t play somewhere unless you are guaranteed to play shows a lack of a competitive edge tho.
if you have a competitive edge you say this,
“no matter where i play, i’ll prove i’m good enough to earn playing time”
    that is a competitive edge.

I don’t think he meant he wouldn’t play somewhere else, I think he meant it more as if I get traded and get the same amount of playing time I am getting here, then I don’t want to leave Denver

the Wizards have won 7 of their last 10

“Yes, my agent told me about it. And I would go to Miami or Minneapolis gladly. On one condition only – that they would let me play.”

That is him saying he won’t be happy unless he’s guaranteed playing time. Why are you trying to read between the lines that he is somehow including Denver in that? He wants out of Denver.

.”a trade was supposed to happen. It would be good both for me and the club”

I guess I’m trying to give him the benefit of the doubt

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

that’s fair. that’s why i said, “true or not, he probably shouldn’t have said this” — because while i do believe he just wants to play, not that he really doesn’t care about winning, this does create the question that wasn’t there before.

Bum? Eddy Curry would of given Mozcov the business years ago…..he’s just a fatass, not a bum.

    Who’s talking about years ago???

Just imagine if an American-born player said the same thing? The media would burn them alive (literally)

  • LakeShow

Why is a guy named Kosta Kufos getting more mins than the two centers on his team that are better than him.
    Honestly. WTF George…

Poor guy. I’m sure it’s not that he doesn’t realize he’s being outplayed by Javale/Koufos and that the Nuggets are not in the poster business. Surely he’s pressed to put a highlight reel together before summer (titled “famous for all the wrong reasons”) because of the contract.
He won’t be able to crack the rotation because of the Nuggets insane pace. He might be out of the league after this season.
Well, never too late to cash in on the Mosgoved trademark and signing up for Spring league at LifeTime Fitness.
Billy King will probably give him a look though. Our offense is expected to fossilize circa 2014. He’ll fit right in!

  • bike

He should put on his Drago face and say ‘I will crush the American competition. I will simply crush them’.

  • sammyb96

Let him play, I need a few new posters for my room.

  • roscoe

    i agree w/ u nbk.

it’s an all too common thread amongst players and agents to force their way out.

  • figuratively

    you are dumb…literally.

  • Irishway’s

    Flashbacks too Rocky 4… huh

  • LeroyShonuff

Because Kosta is better than them two centers…
