Last month, Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander said that he planned to ink GM Daryl Morey to a contract extension. According to Alexander, both parties have agreed on a new, four-year deal. Per Fox 26 in H-Town: “Rockets owner Leslie Alexander says he has reached a verbal agreement on the key components of a 4-year extension with GM Daryl Morey … Rockets GM Daryl Morey has 1-year left on his conrtract. So he is now tied to the Rockets for 5 years … Rockets Leslie Alexander on GM Daryl Morey ‘The reason I extended Daryl, I thought he’s done a terrific job in his tenure with the Rockets.’”

he has been really great. So good infact, he has reinvented rebuilding. Or at least added a wrinkle.

Top 3 GM in the league.

When he amnestied Scola trying to get Howard, and when he gave Lin that crazy contract, it seemed like Morey was crazy and headed for the unemployment line. Then he pulls off the Harden trade and all of a sudden he’s a genius. It goes to show it’s a players league…one superstar is all takes to turn things around.

so many (me included) thought he was destoying the team this summer when he was just giving guys away (lowry, scola) and giving out (at the time) crazy contracts to lin and asik (which turned out to be decent contracts) Then he lands harden and the future is looking bright, solid job. i hope they start playing terrance jones more though

i sure thought he was in panic mode this summer. i mean, i totally understood what he was doing. But i didn’t think it would work. i ignorantly assumed he was just foregoing the whole basketball is a game about team chemistry aspect of team building and just throwing his advanced stats into a giant bowl of cereal so to speak. I was soooooooo wrong.

How much do GM make on Average a mill maybe 5? anyways this dude deserves a bonus…

  • Coolguy4life

Easily. Him, prest stand alone. And maybe kupchak (well his is debatable seeing as how he a powerful Lakers history and media market to deploy in his pitch).

Billy King has to be the worst analyzer as far as getting bang for his buck in additions…

I don’t think he was necessarily crazy. He knew both Scola or Lowry weren’t gonna take us anywhere (I was kinda mad when he let Dragic walk in FA)…. But morey’s brilliance was maintaining patience while stock piling assets and cap space for when the just for when the right deal came along… otherwise the rockets would have ended up being another Suns roster (average players, long term contracts, little leverage)…

I think Sam Presti rivals him in that though. Just looking at the Thunder’s roster their first year in OKC just makes me wanna hurl….

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Morey is nice, I like, etc. etc. but the best GM in the league, and perhaps all time, is GREGG POPOVICH (RC Buford gets props too).

  • Ugh

Morey has proven you can get a medicore, profitable team for very little money which is why he’s been extended by management.

    Winning championships… not so much.

  • i_ball

RC Bufford and presty are the top GMs. No doubt about that.
