Kobe Bryant Says Dwight Howard Needs More Shots

Well, well, well … it’s now come to this for Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. Kobe is at last realizing that Dwight Howard — who has been frustrated about his lack of offensive involvement all season — needs to be a more prominent feature in the team’s attack. Per the LA Daily News: “Dwight Howard has shown visible frustration with a subdued demeanor, lowered voice and shortened answers. But he’s refused to gripe in recent weeks about the inconsistency the Lakers feature him on offense. ‘I don’t even want to talk about it,’ Howard said. ‘We have to figure out what we need to do to play. If you want to win games, you have to play the right way.’ Howard doesn’t have to speak up. Nor does he feel inclined to tote around a box score to teammates and reporters, like he did two months ago when the Lakers went away from his post presence. A certain prominent teammate will speak up for Howard. ‘He’s playing phenomenal,’ Lakers guard Kobe Bryant said. ‘We have to figure out a way to get him some more looks down low.’ [...] They’re encouraging Howard to work more on his mid-range game in hopes that improves his versatility, floor spacing and free-throw shooting. A few days ago, Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni suggested the Lakers need to move the ball more because Howard’s always open. Howard has deflected comments about his offensive role by stressing he’ll set better screens and maintain his defensive focus. Even when informed about Bryant’s vow that he will receive more touches, Howard hardly sounded interest in the talk. He suggested it’s better if the Lakers let their actions speak for themselves. ‘If we lose, everything is magnified. We just have to play the game the right way and do what we did from the start to get some wins and go from there.’”

    sure…pass him the ball

  • shockexchange

Of course D12 needs more shots … Why you think he hasn’t re-signed yet?

  • maybe 8th seed maybe

kobe Dwight steve it don’t matter who has the ball the team just sucks

  • Lloyd

*double take* did I read this article right? Dwight isn’t griping? Kobe wants someone else shooting more? C’mon Slam, early April Fool’s Day prank eh?

  • kev

well kobe then stop hoisting 27 shots

  • mp7three

Only consistent shot Dwight has right now is an uncontested dunk off a pass. He has limited lost moves and no “touch” on his shots around the basket. He is literally bricking layups. Yes, he needs more shot attempts and he usually gets them when the game starts. But if the game is tight or even as it gets later in the game his energy isn’t there on fighting for position (when not getting offensive fouls) or not rolling of screens with a purpose. So both “yes” and “no” to this proposal. “Yes” he needs more shots and when he’s healthy and playing back at his Orlando level he’ll get them. “No”, he should get what he’s getting now and focus on his screens (which have given Kobe & Nash some clear lanes for layups) & focus on playing defense, his specialty.

Because he can resign for a max deal in the summer genius. I’m not saying he will resign but even if he were going for sure, it wouldn’t be until the summer

man I miss the Dwight in Orlando, if it wasn’t for his back and shoulder

  • shockexchange

And all this time the Shock Exchange thought it was because Horry Jr only passes the ball unless you’ve got a basket painted on your chest. The Shock Exchange’s bad.

because he wants a new contract, not an extension.

  • shockexchange

    “Hello Brooklyn”

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

which would still include him signing with the Lakers.
    .
Oh and the Nets, they aren’t going to trade their best Center in the league this season for an inferior one.

  • stackz42

He’s gonna re-sign in LA genius he has 30 million reasons to and its the Lakers tell him nbk

  • LP

Passing Kobe or scoring Kobe?? make your mind up….

  • shockexchange

“Yeah … tell ‘em nbk … I need somebody to co-sign for me before the Shock Exchange hands out ‘that fiddy’”

  • playa

From what is see Kobe is actually the best/most willing passer to the post(DWIGHT) throughout the season except for some 4 quarters when he’s not passing to ANYBODY under NO CIRCUMSTANCES.Dwight has been awful with his moves, but but but if he’s not a threat they have zero chances of doing anything,so it’s probably worth trying, stressing a bit more.

  • initbruv

Hell yeah Shock, get em…oh wait.

  • Tupac

He cant get shots if Kobe dosnt pass him the ball.

  • KoloradoKobe

The season the Lakers are having is even weirder than the season the Knicks had last year, and I thought that was one of the strangest seasons ever. This is some alternate universe sh*t.

Its only a matter of time before everyone starts figuring out dumb toni isn’t the right coach for this roster

  • dchardric

    Couldn’t agree more

  • dchardric

If D12 can get healthy and focus there are 30 points a night out there for him to get and not just from touches. Be dominant as Shaq would say and the game will come to you

The ssme guy who misses half of his free throws….. you want this man taking mid range shots ? Lol Wow brilliant, just brilliant…..I suppose you want Nash cutting to the hoop for oops now huh?

kobe tries to involve d12 but when la is down 15 it is kinda hard to play the game of get it to the big. he does not have post moves like shaq and is terrible at reading defenses as well passing out of double-teams. sorry!

Dude…Kobe’s talking out of the side of his mouth.

  • hookedonnews

That’s hilarious. Kobe takes 10 of 12 shots in the 4th quarter of the Wizards game (Howard shot 0), and he thinks Howard isn’t getting enough shots? What gave him his first clue?

  • jamal

Dwight Howard midrange game? I guess it would help improve his free throws, but it just seems weird.
